Absolute scammers
Absolute scammers. Buried deep in fine print is you need proof of address or won't accept your private insurance or even paying big holding deposit for no daily insurance (in our case their full insurance at 30 pounds per day). No other company does this and clearly just a scam. Even have address on drivers license. Pure and simple these no frills lower cost companies have big catch and end up costing you far more...3 people ahead of us all caught out....we actually walked away and took other transport. Simply avoid at all costs you will be scammed. Staff were rude uneducated and lower IQ to boot and just looking for up sell with these scams. BTW car needs to be returned absolutely spotless or charge cleaning costs as well. Anyway avoid you have been warned and see all the hugely negative reviews here (over 90% 1 star ratings) and on other review sites. They have lost all our future business. Scam scam scam you are warned. We will go for charge back on CC.
Internet Gatwick airport: never again - scammers
I used Interrent in Gatwick airport. It was a disaster. Never to be repeated. Dishonest. Rude and unpleasant personnel. It seemed like they were doing all they could to make you feel miserable and feel cheap for choosing a cheaper no thrills company. Not only to me but to the other customers that arrived at the same time. Waited more than 20 minutes for the navette. They added lots of charges that were not in the original voucher. I will never go with them again and I hope you don’t have to use them either. A miserable experience
Scam merchants. Avoid!
I arrived late to pick up my car but assumed it would be no problem as I had already paid in full. I was told that rentals were cancelled on the system when an hour late and could no longer be accessed. They tried to sell me replacement car hire costing £220 rather than the £28 that I paid for the original hire.
Scam merchants. Do not touch with a barge pole!
Don't touch interrent with a barge…
Don't touch interrent with a barge pole, you think your getting a good deal when you book and pay on line, only to be told that you only have a basic insurance, so they give you two choices pay 900 euros up front (they say they return this if no damage), but no option was on offer to check the car over before excepting it, or number two options is pay 244 euros insurance (not refundable ) this includes airport taxes apparently and some other charges thrown in.....
SO WHAT YOU THOUGHT WAS CHEAP, HONESTLY THEY GET YOU ON THE INSURANCE. ...
RUN FOR THE HILLS....DON'T TOUCH THEM
Aggressive upselling, non-polite, not bothered, so not using ever again
Booked online with Amex, turned up to pay with Amex, was told they don't take Amex. Only way round it was if I opted for the full insurance package (cost of the car rental was £20, they wanted £90 for the insurance. I said no, let's do debit. They wanted to charge me the full excess (£2000), which was fine, i get it, but then when I asked when would they refund the excess, they said they are not sure how it works, and if I would even get that back, but it could all be saved if I was to take out the £90 insurance. The woman dealing with the other agent walked out saying the service was disgraceful, and my agent didn't really care either. I walked out, saying that I wasn't going to take the car after all, they said I wouldn't be able to get a refund (which is exactly what i did get once I spoke with customer services), and then promptly took a car with easirent, which was the complete opposite in terms of service, courtesy and gratitude, and were more than happy to take Amex, and didn't have any issues with me taking the insurance or not, they just made me exactly aware of my liabilities. Interrent couldn't give a monkeys. In fact, i think the agent was even on whatsapp whilst talking with me. Thanks, but no thanks.
If you were cheated from Interrent in UK, report to police
With rentalcars.com I prepaid for a car rental with Interrent GC (Coopers Road, Stansted Airport, CM24 1SJ). It is stated on rentalcars web page that I don’t need to print anything. When I arrived at the Interrent cabin the assistant insisted that I provide a document with my address on it. Otherwise, I had to take out full insurance incurring a new cost. I soon learned from other car rental companies that this address documentation is not required as I have a Swedish passport and driving licence. The assistant still refused me a car. I phoned rentalcars.com, who indicated everything could be solved by an email exchange between the assistant and them. The assistant refused to put a rentalcars.com reference in his system, refused to provide an email address, refused to give his name or to give the telephone number of his manager. When I indicated I would take a photo of him, he became aggressive – he seized all my possessions within his grasp– my computer, passport, driving licence and money wallet. The Goldcar assistant witnessing all of this intervened.
I made a new rental that cost 280 GBP (instead of <60 GBP). The other rental companies that advised me could only win from my misfortune (and the thought occurs that this is almost organized fraud). If they do nothing about Interrent, they get more customers who hire at full cost. They told me (if true): (i) they had contacted the manager at Interrent and that he would look into it, (ii) Everything that happened at Interrent was captured on CCTV.
I have looked at online sites. There are many people with the same story. If the manager at the other company was active in reporting the guy, why does nothing happen? Why does the manager at the Stansted office do nothing? Either they are a legitimate company that employs staff that cheat people or the it is the company's business idea to cheat us. If we don't pay full insurance then no car.
As I booked with rentalcars.com, I can only complain to them (not to Interrent that appear to be owned by Goldcars).
Rentalcars.com offered to refund my money and said that I should also send in a report because this was exceptional.
I am really helpless to report the guy who was rude, blocked my car rental and even took my possessions from me.
They can always say we should read the small print. Since rentalcar.com indicated I didn’t need to print anything and, by phone, that they could have solved this by an email exchange, I am sure this is not only an issue of me not reading the small print.
I encourage everyone with a similar story to report it to the police. Google action fraud and you will find the page.

Google Which magazine worst car providers ever for why you shouldn't book with these scammers
I Booked a vehicle from inter rent through an agent Argus car hire, when I booked I called the number on the booking that turns out to be INTER RENT to clarify i could collect with my driving license and company (NHS) id card. they told me yes this was fine. I booked. Then turned up there after my shift 14-hour shift, to collect my car to be told I couldn't collect it. I had to have valid id either passport(i don't have one hence why I called to clarify earlier about id card) or national ID(these cards don't exist in the UK anymore) they point blank refused to budge, unless I paid hundreds for their insurance, which I already had through a different company. The staff in the office in Heathrow are probably the most incompetent muppets I've ever met, run by a management team of complete spam heads, devoid of brain cells with no common sense whatsoever.
while I was in there waiting to get through to argus car hire, to try and sort the issue out, I witnessed 6 other customers come through & were forced into buying insurance and add-ons they didn't need & continuously mislead customers, people leaving irate and frustrated. this is basically a scam company.
How they can not accept a valid driving license & NHS ID card is beyond me. it is government ID, I had other ID also which they wouldn't accept either. they would only accept it if I took there over inflated insurance(hundreds of pounds), But, as I have my own valid hire car hire insurance, this would of invalidated their policy as it is a better policy than theirs. I did not pay the extra money as this is an infringement of my consumer rights & bullying.
The presentation of the office is nothing more than run down shack and the people working there are a disgrace to humanity. I really do not know how they sleep at night! The best line ever was "we only work here" - get some respect & get a proper job, stop ripping people off as KARMA is a big fat mamma that is coming for you all !!!!!
They have now been reported once again to the office of fair trade, trading standards & HMRC for Fraud!!!
J'ai souscris une assurance complementaire deux fois????????????

Agence a éviter a fuir , prenez une agence de location a enseigne internationale
Dodgy
I rented a car from this company in October.
The car broke down 20 minutes after leaving the airport.
It then took them 3 hours to come and collect the car and take us back to the airport to get a replacement car.
And now they have taken £312.62 from my credit card without authorisation.
When I rang them they told me this charge was for roadside assistance and refuelling!!
But I cannot get the money back over the phone, I can only email them for it to be considered.
0 star if possible
We made reservation to pick up a car from Bergamo airport on 27 October 2018. Unfortunately, our flight was delayed and we arrived at Milan at 2200. I called the number on my reservation voucher to inform them we were arriving late but no response. When we arrived at the pickup there was nobody there. We had to take public transport to our hotel that night. In the process we lost our luggage containing our iPad and other items. I contacted autoeurope the next day and they advised me to contact Interrent. I contacted interrent and they said to contact customer service on weekdays. They advised me to make another reservation which I did. I arrived to pick up the car but unfortunately I forgot my passport in the hotel which was about 2 hours away in Malpensa. I explained this to the customer service representative at the airport but she won’t release the car to me. I offered her scanned copy of the passport, I even video-called my wife to show her the passport and promised to get the passport to her. All pleas fell on deaf ears. She refused to give me her name and her attitude was very unfriendly. When all failed, I decided to go back to the hotel and get the passport. She said I had to come back within an hour or else I would lose the reservation. I explained that it would take at least 2 hours by public transport to get the hotel and that the time she had given me was unrealistic. I called her on my way to the hotel later and she said I had lost the reservation and I wasn’t entitled to any refunds.
I have written a formal complaint to interrent and they have refused to reply to my complaints.
This trip has been the most traumatic for us and interrent is responsible for this to a large extent.
If I could give this company 0/10 I would
If I could give this company 0/10 I would.
The worst experience we have had with ANY company. We arrived at Faro airport where they tried to sell us their insurance policy. I had arranged car hire damage insurance with AXA before I left so declined this. They then proceed to write 'no insurance' on the top of your booking form. As we didn't purchase their insurance we were asked to go around the car and mark on a diagram of the car where there were damages. The assistant said to us 'there definitely will be damages'. So we headed outside to mark the damages, handed the form back to the assistant (who didn't even cross reference what we had marked against the form with the actual damage on the car) and drove off to start our holiday.
Upon returning the car, we pulled up and handed over our booking form. I'm pretty sure that the reason they write NO INSURANCE in bold letters on your form is to alert their colleagues so that they can try and find any tiny damage where possible. They said we caused a dent in the car (which was hardly noticeable and we must have not marked on the form as it was dark when we picked up the car) and so they proceeded to charge us 350 EUROS. They gave us no explanation as to how they had reached this figure so we were obliged to pay.
They were meant to email the invoice to us but they never did. I tried calling the Faro office, got through to a lady who said I got through to Gold Car and she would go over to speak to her colleague and get her to email the receipt. This never happened. Luckily I managed to get the invoice through our third party supplier (HolidayAutos) as this was crucial evidence we needed to submit our insurance claim.
I even tried calling their 'UK' number to get through to someone speaking a foreign language - when I asked if they could speak English he replied 'a little!' Customer service is shocking.
Avoid, avoid, avoid!
Great for masochists
Just Google “Interrent voted worst in Europe”...
This review is for Interrent at Olbia airport, Sardinia.
If you are a masochist and enjoy stress at the beginning of your holiday, I encourage you to hire a car from Interrent which has a simple business model.
1. You are hooked by a cheap price via a broker (and it IS cheap!)
2. Upon collection there is a fairly hard sell of other products, insurances etc which is where they make their money - It’s not via car rental costs.
3. These products are ludicrously expensive equating to annual fees of €8000+ to cover a potential and extremely unlikely, maximum charge of €3000.
Upon arrival, we waited outside for 20 minutes or so. I looked around the Interrent car lot and wondered in which of the dozen or so Fiat 500’s we would soon be exploring beautiful Sardinia.
We listened respectfully to the assistant, who found our booking and laid some car keys on top of the counter on our documentation as she went through the sales process.
We politely declined all of the fabulous offers and car upgrades.
Somewhat bizarrely, at this point, the demeanour of the young lady changed.
She took the keys off the counter and
sternly advised us that because we were more than one hour late collecting our car, it had been allocated to someone else.
No other Fiat 500 was available until after, 6.00PM, some 3 hours later.
Helpfully, she suggested that perhaps we might want to get a car elsewhere?
I declined her generous suggestion and very politely said that we were happy to wait.
We sat outside their front door, on our suitcases, directly in the eye line of the Interrent personnel.
I walked around the car park, counted and photographed 8 Fiat 500’s parked in Interrent bays and waited.
We were in no rush to be anywhere at any time.
Just over an hour later we were approached by a different assistant who allocated our car - one of the aforementioned 8 Fiat 500’s.
Incidentally, none of them left the car park whilst we waited.
The car we were given was dirty, scratched and dented on many panels. The paperwork acknowledged a scratch on the front bumper only. Back in to Interrent, request for another examination of the car and correct documentation of car damage.
A completely disinterested woman came out, mumbled something that I didn’t understand, said “take photographs” and went back indoors.
Wonderful advice which I would never have considered in a million years.
The car worked and was returned hassle free, .......as yet
Just awful!
13.10.2018 decided to rent the cheapest car there for 1 DAY, Smart 20 €. We were served by a Russian girl, who said that you pay 20 € for a car and 40 € for insurance, in the end, we wrote off 150 €, and after we passed it near the airport, another 161 € was written off, it turned out that we paid in addition for some 50 € fine , Premium Security, grade enhancement and so on (in general, like everyone who wrote a review earlier, the same scheme of cheating people) It is a pity that they read the reviews too late! THIS IS A REAL SCAMMER! Do not contact them! Contact only familiar companies! As a result, the rental day cost us € 311! Just awful!
Never get a car from these guys
Never get a car from these guys! Absolute criminals !
I booked a car through Interrent/Goldcar
I booked a car through Interrent/Goldcar in Madeira Funchal, when arriving to pick up my car the sales advisor mentioned they were providing me with a car which had a small engine and would struggle up the mountains, they suggested I upgrade the car to a diesel for €59 which after some debate with my partner I reluctantly accepted (This is unacceptable in itself for the fact that we rent a car expecting the company to provide you with a adequately powerful engine for its surroundings). When looking at my bill during the holiday I noticed I was charged £96 on top of the £80 I paid. The sales advisor miss-sold the upgrade, I was told €59 and when I looked at the bill it was £96 which is nearly double they quoted. I went back to the office to explain the situation and they said that they couldn't help me that I would have to make a complaint by email, they were rude and unhelpful! A terrible company, I now know why they have terrible reviews and will never rent a car from "Goldcar/Interrent" again.
Inter rent at Toulouse
Inter rent at Toulouse. No dedicated office or staff. Car quarter full of fuel (full to full agreement) which took 1 hour to sort.
While I had the car I was caught on a town speed camera and received a 90 Euro fine which I paid to the authorities.
Inter rent also took £32 administration charge off my credit card for giving the authorities my details.
I will never use them again!
When I tried to contact them about this, there are no lines of communication open!
Interrent in Sardinia
In Sardinia we collected a little Fiat 500. It was cheap to rent at the start (at £25). On collecting I was told I need to pay €190 for full insurance, and on returning the car I would receive €100 back. The true cost of the car with appropriate insurance was therefore the £25 + €90. I declined as was only doing two journeys. The lady serving STRONGLY (exact words) recommended I took the insurance. I declined in the same basis as above. I asked if she was going to view the car with me, she declined and said it was perfect in line with the condition sheet.
The car was clean inside but filthy outside. I did a once around the car but the cars were tightly packed and the person next to me was doing the same. I just missed the scrape. I drove the two journeys and returned the car later.
Despite the car being dirty, the lady who greeted us on returning the car relatively quickly found a low level scrape. It was on the driver’s side (left) and they drive on the right in Sardinia. I would have noticed if I had knocked the car against an obstruction on the driver’s side along the main roads. The front of a Fiat 500 is about a foot in front of the steering wheel so almost impossible to bump in to anything. I checked a photo that I took of the car after I had arrived at our destination. Through the dirt the scrape can be seen. If a scrape is dirty - it is old, else it would still be fresh and clean.
I filled out a form and advised that the car was dirty when collected. Internet have since charged me, without consultation or discussion, £250 for repairs.
Do not use this company unless you can beat them at their game. They are devious and crooked.
The latest Interrent scam - extortion
Interrent's Customer Service and rental experience the last 3 times I've rented from them from Stansted has been at best variable, at worst they resort to extortion.
The last time was the last straw. I turned up with my UK license and as the address on the license is not my current living address (I work abroad and pay tax abroad, and thus my Experian check on my UK address fails) I bought a raft of documentation supporting my overseas address which has, and does pass the Experian check. I was told by the lady on reception that she could not perform an Experian check on anything other than the address shown on my License. However if I paid to reduce my excess to £0, then I could have the car. The charge for the rental was £20. The charge to reduce the excess to zero was £116. I ended up having to pay this as Auto-Europe.co.uk would only allow me to rent from an alternative Company to the value of around £130 - impossible as a "walk-in" customer. The conversation was, however recorded and I will be taking this further via the complaints procedure at Auto-Europe. I will NEVER rent from these scammers again (another gent was in the throws of experiencing exactly the same whilst I was there too, 27th September 2018 @ 17:30). I canvassed ALL the other rental agencies in the Rental Village (including their partner, Europcar) and ALL said that this practice is NOT legal and that I'd be able to rent from ALL of them without any problems with the information I provided.
Interrent's practice is extortion - pure and simple. To refuse to perform an Experian check on the address provided on wage slips, utility bills, etc. is in complete contradiction to a previous encounter where they said that this is what I had to provide in order for them to do a Credit check.
NEVER AGAIN
Appalling
I rented a car at the end of August/beginning of September at Faro Airport. I was a single lady using the car just for me and did hardly any mileage over a 4 day rental period. I returned the car on time, filled with petrol and with no damage. The car was signed in as OK (I still have the check in sheet). I was then astounded to have a 50 Euro charge applied to my credit card the day after drop off, which I have found out is for hoovering out a very small amount of sand (from the bottom of a beach bag) on the front passenger seat. When I explained that the car was checked in as OK, I was told that in the summer they don't usually have time to hoover out the car before sending out to the new customer, but this time they had to!!! I have a home in the Algarve and book at minimum of a dozen hire cars a year. I will ensure that I will never again book with Goldcar/Interrent. Enjoy the 50 Euro hoover charge guys because you will never get any further revenue from me. Absolutely disgusted.
