Bogus damage charges

I rented a car from the Brindisi branch, Italy.

When I returned the car, a representative of Interrent tried to charge me an extra 30€ for "damage". There was a 1-inch scuff on the wheel trim. It was impossible that I could have damaged the car. I only used to twice -once to drive to the hotel; again to drive back.

I refused to the sign the document accepting responsibility and the man, Francisco, threatened me with a 1000€ charge if I did not accept the 30€ charge.

I again refused. He told me to go to the airport and expect a 1000€ fee upon my return.

Eventually, he agreed to weaver the fee. Fortunately, I was not in a rush to catch my flight. If I had been, I might have needed to sign to ensure getting to the airport on time.

Not sure how to start

Not sure how to start, really.
I rented a economic car with Axa insurance, in Faro airport, for 1 week. On the day of the arrival, terminal desk took me almost more time to get the car than the actually flight from Bristol. Unbelievable.
Afterwards I decided to take the company full insurance. Well, if you rent car on any company PLEASE consider pay extra for full insurance or you can have so much hassle.
Now... The nightmare.
Drove from Faro to Viseu (560km). Thought the 6 months Seat Ibiza with 9000km on the clock would be nice, but after 100km it broke. Engine ko. Luckily I managed to drive it to nearest petrol station, on the A2 motorway, near Aljustrel. I rang Inter Rent and promptly they arrange assistance and because car could not been fixed they sent a taxi which took us to Lisbon, to Europcar. Yes, Europcar, the "opponent". Questioned why, and answer was that no other rental company was open at that time. 00:00. In there, I've been told that no car was available. So rang them back and another solution was being studied. Finally at almost 4AM another taxi arrived to take us to Rent a Star company so we could have a car to keep our trip to our destination. Mercedes C180 completely new. But just for 24hrs. It needed to be taken back to Porto airport Rent a Star within next 24hrs. And then go to Inter Rent to pick up another car. Absolutely nightmare.
All this and maybe more than 20 phone calls to try sort out this problem. Needed to cancel plans because of this. Needed to pay petrol from Viseu to Porto (150km), and then back. Adding the cost of the tolls. I will try to get this amount refunded. But nothing pays me the hassle and the poor service of the company.
No one from the approximately 20 phone operators deserve any credit. Not even an effort to help.
Common. Wouldn't be nice to a client to be treated as that? Car broken down. Taxi to Lisbon, fair enough. Courtesy car, fair enough. But then, making me drive to Porto to exchange car? Wouldn't have been better for someone from Inter Rent to come to the client with a car and take the other back? What the heck???
Absolutely miserable service.
Think twice before you hire!!! It only could have been worst if I had a baby or a disable person with me. Other than that, it was an absolutely nightmare!!!

INTERRENT NOT IF YOUR A UK NATIONAL WITHOUT A PASSPORT

I had never heard of this company but it was an emergency as I needed transport to assist my mother over hospital visits and to collect my aunt from Heathrow who was flying to help nurse so I accepted the offer made. I am a pensioner and money is always the borderline.
I checked with the booking agent who assured me that as I was a UK national and resident in the UK for the appropriate period; as long as I produced my UK driving Licence (which is clean), a current bank statement and a current utility bill then the hire would be okay. As I do not travel abroad I have no need of a passport and previous hires have all accepted the above proofs of identity.
The first problem was at Heathrow; the shuttle instructions were to go to Stand 18 at T2 and wait for the shuttle bus. At Stand 18 the signage however ask you to phone for pickup, already another expense and it took three phone calls to get through due to the noise of the adjacent taxi rank (air pollution level quite high!)
The MAJOR problem was the fact that the receptionist who dealt with me was aghast that I had no passport and refused to accept the proofs I had brought with me. I explained that I had checked with the booking agent and had their assurance that these would be acceptable but he insisted that their rules were specific that a passport or international proof of identity MUST BE SUPPLIED (What is a valid driving licence with a photograph if it is not a recognised form of international identification) . He then insisted on doing an address check and then said that I could hire the car PROVIDED I PAID FULL INSURANCE COSTS OF £300. Naturally I refused and walked away quite angry and insulted.
Further research of InterRents conditions showed that the address check is a requirement but the proofs I had already brought with me would also be needed and THERE IS NO MENTION IN THE CONDITIONS THAT THE HIRE IS DEPENDENT OF ACCEPTING FULL INSURANCE..
The attitude of this company to UK residents without passports is insulting, one is made to feel like a pariah and borders on a strange racism of the commercial kind. I am also furious that the receptionist who dealt with me was clearly wrong about the proof I had brought with me and the fact that Full Insurance is a condition of the hire. It just shows to me that this company seeks to squeeze its clients and God help the wallets of those who use this company. It is the first time I have been insulted in the UK for being a UK National just because I do not carry or hold a passport. If it was possible to give this review minus stars then I would be happy to do so MINUS 100 seems plenty

Just as well I read some previous…

Just as well I read some previous reviews and brought along my passport, otherwise I would have been denied car rental. I booked via a well-known online broker and even though my booking confirmation clearly stated 'unlimited mileage' the agent denied this is valid and imposed their own terms of limited daily mileage. The car had a slow puncture which only became apparent after driving some miles and no way I could have spotted this on pick-up. Even though I'm willing to give them the benefit of doubt that they didn't know about this, the fact that the car had no manual and no indication anywhere of what the tyre pressure should be is unacceptable. Furthermore, the two contact numbers given on the rental agreement turned out to be invalid so it was impossible to contact them. Two stars only because I got a slightly better car than ordered with SatNav and reversing camera and the car itself was in good order.

Tried to force me to take expensive excess insurance

I booked a car on the interrent site to pick up at Gatwick Airport. After waiting 20 minutes at the shuttle stop and seeing another hire companies' buses go round several times, I rang the office and they told me it was just leaving. Another 20 minutes and I rang again - they told me it was stuck in traffic. Another 20 minutes - still stuck in traffic. I was very cold by this time so I decided to take a taxi. When I tried to complete the booking process, I was told that they couldn't accept my booking because I had presented a visa debit card - although I used this same card with them several times last year. But, of course, they could process the booking if I took out their very expensive excess insurance. I refused and took a train instead. I later checked on the booking form and it only says that you have to bring the card with which you made the booking. You only discover that a credit card is required if you go on to their website separately to read all the conditions - it should made crystal clear before you book. I was happy with my experiences with Interrent last year, but I will certainly never use them again.

Latest Interrent ploy - not pick you up and then cancel booking for being late!

My booking was for a car from Interrent at 1pm which was about 10 minutes after my flight touched down. I was told on my confirmation to phone for the shuttle bus which I did once I cleared customs at 1.15 (I have proof of this on my mobile phone).

I waited and waited, phoned them again twice (its an automated system) and after waiting 45 minutes in desperation I asked one of the other drivers. He told me that actually I had to get the shuttle of the car company next door, Kingparking, but there was no mention of this on the booking confirmation. I have attached photographic evidence of the signage on the shuttle that Interrent use and the instructions on the booking form underneath.

Collection Information
Please, collect your car from INTERRENT RENT A CAR. On arrival at the airport, after collecting your luggage, please go to Terminal 3 and take the lift to the Departures level. Once outside, go to the external lane in the yellow spaces created for the Bus stop marked as "Off Airport", in front of the Airport Control Tower. Please call on +39 0689830777 (ext. 1) to request the free shuttle bus service, which will collect you there and take you to the INTERRENT office located a short distance from the airport.

When I arrived at the office there was a long queue. I took a ticket and waited a further 30 minutes to be seen. The sales assistant started making a big performance that as I was over 59 minutes late for my booking (for which I had paid you the total in advance) it had been cancelled and that the only way now to retrieve it was to pay an upgrade charge of 11 euros a day + tax. I explained that I had been waiting to be picked up but he basically told me that I could take it or leave it, the company made him do it and it made his life hell but he had no choice, yada yada.

I was now in the middle of nowhere without a hire car I had little choice but to pay the extra charge. And additionally, while I was waiting I witnessed someone else who had received the same treatment.

This is a completely cynical and unethical approach to extorting more money from their customers. Even Goldcar give you 6 hours to pick up your car but it seems that Interrent do everything they can to try and make you exceed their arbitrary 59 minute cutoff period.

There is no argument about that.

The point is that I phoned Interrent within 15 minutes of landing to pick me up and they kept me waiting for nearly an hour before they collected me.

I complied with the instructions on the booking confirmation to await collection from the airport.

So they cannot reasonably make the claim that as I was over 59 minutes late collecting the car that my booking was invalid unless I paid an upgrade surcharge when they took an hour to pick me up in the first place. Also, the minibus was labelled ‘Kingparking’ and not ‘Interrent’. There is no mention of this on the booking confirmation so it does seem like a deliberate ploy to make customers late so they can cancel their contracts according to the smallprint and then extort more money from them.

And as I told you in my last email, I have proof of the time of my phone call to them and photos of the minibus they sent.

Copies of this email will be going on DoYouSpain, DoYouItaly and Interrent websites on Trustpilot.

Please contact them ask ask them to reimburse my payment.

Fraudulent company

I rented a car from this company in July for a week through Opodo. I paid for the cost plus insurance and was informed that I would leave a deposit of £1000. My problems started from the time I went to pick up the car. They refused to give me the car because I did not have a passport with me although I had other forms of ID. I had queued for 20 minutes. After returning with the passport, I found that the car I had hired was not available. Instead I was "upgraded" to Nisan Qashqai, the catch I had to leave a deposit of £1,409. I was told the money will not be debited from my account but will be held until I returned the car. The car was new. It had no petrol in it. On my way home I had to fuel. My problems began when I returned the car. The car was checked and signed off and when I went to the office to ask about the deposit the very rude girls at the counter at Heathrow told me that i should have read the terms and conditions stating that the deposit will be returned from 14 and 28 days. However, on the day of return, they debited my credit card with £1,409. After 3 weeks I called and was informed that the deposit will be returned at the end of week. After a month nothing was happening. I called the customer service number and on the receipt and they said the cant help me and I should deal with Heathrow where I took the car from. I called and was told there is a technical problem and they cant return my deposit. After many calls and 2 months I received an email from Spain asking for my bank details to send the money. At the same time I received an invoice £88 claiming that I had returned the car with half tank of fuel . On top of that they charged me £20 penalty and VAT. This is despite holding my deposit for 2 months during which time I paid credit card interest. To make matters worse they refunded only £1,293.77 on 31/08/18 meaning they deducted £111.23 rather than the £88 stated in the invoice.
This is the worst company i have ever dealt with. They are just a fraud. There staff are rude. Customer service is a joke. My advice is not to deal with it. I wish I had read the reviews before booking with them. I am planning to take them to a small claims court.

This business is no better than a fraudster

This business is no better than a fraudster. I returned a car with a full tank of fuel and no damage. I had to wait an hour to get my car checked, the alternative was to leave the keys and have no signed forms, clearly what they want. They signed the form confirming no damage and a full tank of fuel. They do not automatically give you a copy of the return form, I had to insist on a copy being photocopied. Thankfully I also had photos.

I then get charged for fuel a few days later. I have raised this via the booking agent (Ryanair), twitter and their customer services. All of whom have not responded once provided with the evidence. I have now had the hassle of having to block the payments which whilst it will be fine as I have all the evidence has taken an hour of my time. They clearly hope to make money from you not having the photos / signed return forms or giving up.

Worst ever car rental experience

Worst ever car rental experience! Pick up bus arrived after 3 dropped phone calls and more than an hour waiting at pick up point! Driver's excuse was that they were busy, but upon arrival at collection point I realised there were 2 pick up buses and they didn't move for the whole duration I was dealing with pathetic behaviour of desk staff! Excess cover was increased from £300 to £1400 and it had to be paid by a credit card! The booking was made from rentalcars.com who never sent any document suggesting the excess would be £1400. Another £12.50 was taken saying it was fuel cover, later that turned out to be a lie. Rep from interrent said it was charged because I rented a 'Diesel car', but I never requested a diesel car specifically and demanded this to be refunded which they denied. A complaint I made to rentalcars.com was upheld and they apologised and refunded the money! The excess deposit was returned after nearly 3 weeks! The site guys who hand over the cars are equally trained scammers! The car did not have a full tank which the gauge clearly showed. However, I was made to believe all new 18 plate peugeot cars have a problem with the gauges. As I was already late for the business meeting, I drove off believing the person. I realised it was also a lie when I filled up the car before dropping off. This time the gauge went up all the way as it supposed to. So they scammed a bit of fuel money off me too! Stay well clear of them if you do not want to ruin your business or leisure trips!

THE WORST CAR HIRE COMPANY!!!!
I arrived at the desk in Sicily.We were over an hour late because the plane was delayed and we also had to wait at the internet desk.
I handed over my pre paid pre booked voucher to be told my booking had been cancelled because i was over an hour late.
i could now rent a new car if I paid 90euro extra.
was told my car had been given to someone else however there were 4 Fiat 500 in the parking lot!
When i complained to Interrent & AUTOEUROPE I was told you excepted the new car therefore that was the end of the matter.
I had no choice in excepting the new car as my booking had been cancelled, so obviously I was stuck at the airport with no car!
As for it being cancelled because i was more than an hour late, this is ridiculous as I'm sure customers arrive every day late at all the airports.
I have used Interrent and Autoeurope many many times all over the world and I will NEVER use them again. Utterly non existent customer service from both companies.

Totally agree with everyone, worst company I ve ever seen. I have also been robbed. The worst thing is that when you read the T&C you realise that Interrent is only a website and that the contracting party in the doc is Europcar........How is that possible that such a group has to steal from their clients the way they do ??!! So for me it is Europcar to whom I say never again, ever.....

Zero empathy

Inter Rent are so bad that they rate as the worst car hire company I have come across, and I travel extensively. This evening, their representative at Edinburgh airport was rude, condescending and showed zero empathy. Indeed he appeared to take pleasure in the distress suffered by me and my wife when we found we had made a simple error in the pick up time for our rental. We were abandoned with no car and asked by the representative to leave his desk. Avoid this company at all costs.

Worst customer experience ever: fraudulent sum charged & poor customer service

I am writing here to share my recent experience with Inter rent which has been extremely disappointing.

I rented a car for 4 days at their agency based in Catania Airport, Sicily.

When picking up the cars, I have presented my American express Credit Card to the receptionist as the T&C stipulated that it was accepted by the company. However, their system rejected the Amex and the receptionist asked me to provide another credit card or pay insurance for €160. Since we were in a hurry, I had no choice but paying this insurance knowing that I could request the refund by calling their customer service. Especially that it was a problem is their system.

During my stay in Italy, I have tried to call the company several times but no one picked up the phone. After 2 weeks waiting time, sending 3 emails and messaging on FB to communicate the issue, Inter rent finally came back to me to tell me that it was my fault and they are refusing to reimburse me the amount that they should have never charged initially.

I’m very disappointed by the service and the way Inter-rent is handling this situation, especially that it’s their own responsibility. Inter rent is not respecting at all what has been communicated in their T&C which is clearly stipulating that American Express are considered as “Accepted Credit Cards”.

I have discussed with other people that used inter-rent and it seems that many of them experienced the same problem. Their agents told them that the system did not accept the Amex and pushed them to pay for the insurance instead.

Even worst, their customer service is rejecting the responsibility on their customers instead of providing a professional service? All of this for an amount that is lower than €160?

I will never use this company again, it is the worst customer experience I ever had renting a car and my advice to people reading this post is to not use this company as you will be clearly disappointed.

Booked a car with the Birmingham (BHX)…

Booked a car with the Birmingham (BHX) branch. I didn’t take it for a number of reasons;

•Tried calling the location over the course of an hour the day prior to double check the documents they required and deposit amount. No answer. Extremely frustrating.

•On arriving the next day, I was informed it’s £1400 deposit, despite having paid for insurance. I now needed to pay an extra £250 to reduce my excess to £400 or stay with the £1,400 excess. Only problem being, I didn’t have all the ‘correct’ documents, so I would HAVE to pay to reduce my excess.

•No car would be ready for another 4 hours (it was 1pm and I’d booked to collect at 11am).

•Now call me over cautious, but after seeing the manager being arrested and searched by the police.. right there at the rentals desk, didn’t fill me with confidence that these are people I should be allowing to have copies of my ID and credit card info..

I left with no car and three weeks later there’s still no refund. Just avoid them!

DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY !!!!!

Absolutely agree with every other One Star review on this site. Very poor service all round from Interrent - rude and unhelpful staff (Heathrow and Customer services, which, incidentally, is in Spain....), poor standard of vehicle (dirty inside and out. Also, first car they allocated had a broken fuel cap, so could not be opened. That would have been really interesting if I'd found myself on a service forecourt somewhere with an empty tank and no way of opening the filler cap....luckily I checked it when I was doing my delivery check, coz they sure as heck hadn't noticed or logged it!), taking extra money from my credit card after the car was returned on time, with no damage and a full tank. When asked why they took the extra amount, no one had any information! Since when has car rental been a licence to print money..? Ah yes, since Interrent. Please people, read these reviews, listen to what others are saying and never, ever, rent a car from this company - even though they may look as though they are the cheapest, they will UNDOUBTEDLY work out a lot more expensive and will cause you a lot more hassle! In the end you get what you pay for..........lesson learnt, and I will never use this company again nor will I recommend them to anyone. Quite the opposite in fact. If I could have given them 'zero' stars, I would have, coz they don't even deserve the one star I've had to give them!

AVOID INTERENT CAR HIRE AT ALL COST

Booked a car through HolidayAutos for collection at Gatwick,
I collected the car OK but later that evening a noticed some damage on the passenger door which I was fairly certain was not down to me, luckily I was staying at a hotel near the airport and returned the next morning, lo and behold they did have a record of the damage but it was NOT recorded on the papers I received so was able to start my journey.
When I returned the car with no extra damage, all smiles but a few days later I noticed an additional charge for excess mileage on my credit card,
the distance covered was below the threshold, the car was a small Fiat,
I concluded the spedometer was actually recording KILOMETRES not MILES, big diffreence, after an immediate complaint I eventually received a refund after some weeks but could do without all this extra hassle.
Fist and last time i ever use this company

Absolutely disgusting service

Absolutely disgusting service. I booked from Australia and received a voucher saying I needed to bring a valid driving license. Once in the UK, I arrived at the Heathrow branch and they insisted I needed an international drivers license even though this was not stated on the rental voucher. Of course I could not provide this as I live in Australia! They were incredibly rude, unhelpful and would not listen to me at all. They would only rent me a car if I paid full insurance which meant a 100 pound rental became over 350 pounds!! I needed the car right then so had no choice. They are thieves and provide horrendous service. Never ever use them!!!
