Avoid this company at all costs
Avoid this company at all costs - they are the cowboy builders of the solar installer industry and, in my opinion, outright profiteers and scammers. The company owner (cannot name - he wanted to take down the review) and his colleagues have single-handedly caused us the worst customer experience we have ever had with any company.
TLDR: They ignore emails, phone or text. Promises made during sales pitches are false and the company reneged on my contract after a 7 month waiting period, raising the price and offering inferior equipment. See below for full detail and their likely response.
We signed our contract for a c.8kW Sunpower installation in March after being made a sales pitch by a salesman (cannot name - the company wanted to take down the review). At the time, he branded himself as an "independent assessor" rather than a salesman, which later proved to be false, as had many of the claims he made to us.
We were then told to pay a £2000 deposit for parts for our installation.
Ever since signing the contract, there was no contact whatsoever with the company. Emails, texts and phone calls would go unanswered and no installation date or confirmation of grid permission for installation was provided until 4 months later (we were initially told the installation would be complete in 4 weeks). When a company holds £2000 of your deposit, this is extremely unnerving.
In August, an installation date was scheduled for September once the company claimed to have received a batch of Sunpower panels as a shipment from the factory. I was told there would be enough to also include me as a customer from this batch. Without explanation, the installation date was pushed back last minute by a week. On the 2nd installation date, the company did a no-show (making me miss a day at work) and I was only offered a half-hearted apology after I called to ask what was going on.
During that phone call, I was told that they could no longer promise me when they would carry out the installation.
Later that month, I called to get an update. I was told by another salesman that the company had supply issues and was given an offer which was £2661 higher for a lower capacity system (6kW) with inverters rather than microinverters and using outdated panels. During this phone call, I was shouted at while trying to politely express my disappointment and the situation from my perspective.
As advised by the ombudsman (HIES scheme), I wrote an official complaint which was ignored just like all my other emails.
The company owner did not even acknowledge receipt of this complaint and confirmed that raising prices was a business decision to raise their profit margins - after holding a customer's deposit hostage for 7 months and offering no installation date, he placed me in a situation of "take it or wait another half a year because the waiting times for different providers have also increased". This is nothing more than a profiteering scam.
He later only returned £100 of my £2000 deposit. When politely asked to fix this asap because the situation was unnerving, he replied abruptly "Friday we do payments" and ignored all my further messages. Eventually on the Friday I received the remaining money but was also mocked by Paul on the phone was complaining that his company provided me with awful service. This is not the way to treat customers.
With all this, if In2gr8ted do reply to this review, I would expect that it will revolve around supply bottlenecks which they blamed as the issue to me. Although I acknowledge that the industry is facing unprecedented demand and supply bottlenecks, I was told by the first salesman that signing the contract early would mean that we lock in a price and installation date. This did not happen and any professional standard of honouring signed deals or even responding to distressed customers was thrown out of the window entirely.
To anyone else in a similar situation, I am yet to see how it plays out for me but the company is signed up to the HIES scheme which provides a free ombudsman service - a decision that is binding on the company. I really recommend that you check it out. Update: don't bother, HIES are in on it.
