We had Abacus in for a week to replace our gas boiler with an Air Source Heat pump. They also replaced 7.(about half) of our radiators. The install went really smoothly and the 2 guys on site, Anthony and Paddy worked really hard all the time and we're able to deal with any queries we had. Nothing was too much trouble and the tidying up at the end was brilliant. The house is nice and warm and we now even have warmth in our kitchen which we never had before.
They also applied for RHI grant on our behalf and that went through really quickly and efficiently, thanks to Kersha for that.
Michael was happy to spend time with me after the install to explain a few things I hadn't picked up first time around and I feel confident I can go back to them with any queries and they will be happy to deal with them.

We have a mid-Victorian large semi. Over the years, we've insulated the walls and sorted the draughts and installed PV panels in 2020 to help protect the planet. The next step was to switch from gas central heating within the short window of the Green Homes Grant scheme. Sounds like I know a lot? I don’t and, although ASHPs have been around and I knew what they were, it’s very different actually buying one yourself.
To get quotes and advice, I contacted three firms. Abacus say they are not sales people but engineers and I found this to be true. There are lots of unfamiliar things about the kit and how it works – it takes more space than a gas boiler. At the end of it, let me say, your house will be heated a bit differently but, even on cold days, our house is nice and warm. Before we got there, I had questions and I didn’t always get timely answers from Abacus, I suspect because they are busy. There were quite a few sections of thin central heating pipes in our system (8 and 10mm) and the house has half a cellar and an attic room so Michael strongly advised these needed replacing and 4 radiators upgrading (a couple of which we used elsewhere). It wasn’t easy to find a plumber to do this but we did eventually, Heat on Tap: £2,700 and obviously some disruption, but it was manageable. We didn’t want the inefficiency of a 250-litre tank of hot water as we don’t use it (appliances run on cold and we’ve an electric shower), so, on advice, we opted to spend the £850 we would have spent on the tank on an Ariston Velis Evo 45-litre water heater leaving the ASHP to run the central heating. The Abacus system cost about £10,500, of which £5k was paid to Abacus by the GHG and we should get the £5.5k back from Ofgem (see below) over 7 years quarterly.
Michael’s design was excellent. We didn’t go for the recommended NIBE 2040 12kW ASHP because NIBE couldn’t guarantee it would arrive in time for the GHG voucher deadline and we didn’t want to lose the £5k GHG, so with Alan’s advice, we chose instead an LG Therma 12kW which works fine though twice as tall. The guys did a great job on the installation, including in tight spaces. They work hard and know what they’re doing and have back up. Michael is techy and understands they system though we couldn’t afford to keep it running 24/7 as you are in theory supposed to, so we use it like a gas boiler, coming on twice a day to 19C but on Michael’s advice don’t let it go more than 4 degrees below our target temp because it’s better that way. Once you work out how you’re going to let the system run (on all the time or periodically), the controls are straightforward and I’m not techy. Michael suggested we video his explanation of how to use them and we referred back to this a fair bit (there’s a bit of kit which allows you to take manual control on the LG…. Leave it alone!). We find that in the middle of winter, the PV panels can run the radiators we need during daylight hours on a sunny day and that’s getting better as the days lengthen.
After sales: Abacus have been great. Kersha is fantastic and did all the spadework on the GHG through the Government and the Ofgem hurdles, applying for the Renewable Heat Incentive for us. James is also really experienced and had time to talk through teething problems, much appreciated! So, they are a good solid company and do a very good job. A bit more of a focus on problem solving with the design phase would help. We are pleased we’ve taken the steps and installed it and would recommend Abacus.

James, Michael and the team at Abacus Energy have been really professional throughout the entire planning and installation process of our ground source heating system. They answered all our queries promptly and the installation team worked flat out to get the job done so quickly. We had two initial issues, the first was sorted the next day, and the second (an air lock in our complicated radiator system) was sorted soon after. Since then the system has been operating perfectly.
I thoroughly recommend Abacus Energy to anyone considering ground or air source heating systems. Five stars from us!

Abacus Energy Solutions Installed the Air Source Heat Pump over 3 long days in early March 2021, working outside and in a cold cramped loft space.
Before the site installers left, they fully explained the system and control panel workings and tidied up after themselves.
The only slight issue was leaving a couple of metres of pipe unlagged. This was easily resolved in and only took a couple of minutes in the loft to sort out.
The whole team at Abacus Energy Solutions were always helpful when we needed advice or help.

We have had our air source heat pump system for about six months now, and it is certainly a big improvement on our previous oil system. Abacus provided excellent service - staff were pleasant, efficient and knowledgeable and carried out the installation with the minimum of fuss.
Our new green system is a bit different from our old oil system but has proved to be effective and economical over the winter

I initially made an enquiry regarding Air sourced heat pump (ASHP) ( Green homes scheme) with Abacus Energy Solutions because I always try and support local businesses.
They responded within a couple of hours and chatted on the phone with lots of knowledge but explained things in terms I could understand.
After a few more days of consideration I contacted them to arrange a site visit/survey.
They attended at the time and date arranged which doesn’t always happen with other companies!
Michael did the survey and answered my questions, as at this point I was still unsure if replacing our gas boiler with an ASHP was the correct decision.
It is only now when the installation is complete and been operational for almost 4 of the coldest weeks that I can really appreciate that Michael’s advice was spot on.

Unfortunately my mindset was still stuck in the gas combo boiler operations!
With ASHP the operation system is as Michael forecast different in that it operates 24 hours and warms the whole building. We don’t have underfloor heating but quite a few “double” radiators.
Anyway just trust Abacus Energy Solutions - we did - and we are delighted. The installation went smoothly and I know I’m a bit of a pain when it comes to neat and professional workmanship. Any worries on that front just melted away.
It’s hard to believe that our whole house is toasty warm and yes I’m keeping an eye on my electricity use. My estimate after 4 weeks of use is probably very similar to my previous energy bills including gas but the difference is we are comfortably warm 24 hours and using clean green energy for our heating.
I would like to thank Abacus Energy Solutions for their extremely professional advice from first contact to telling me not to hesitate in contacting them after the installation was finished if I have any questions.

Swapped out oil central heating boiler for Air Source Heat Pump. Work was done with minimal fuss. Really pleased, house is warm.

I looked at 5 companies to install my air source heat pump , Abacus were by far, the best.
Run by 2 engineers, who are hands on, available , expert and helpful. Their heat analysis was intelligent , honest (some weren't) and cost effective.They guided me through every step of the process from EPC to installation to Ofgem acreditationand grant application.
Highly recommended.

User friendly company and we are delighted with the ambient heat the system provides.
Although we probably would not have done things differently, we should have thought through the distance from the hot water tank to sinks/bathrooms.

Abacus completely exceeded my expectations. I was extremely nervous about installing a new heating system that was going to potentially turn my house upside down and worried about the impact on an very old period house, but there was nothing to worry about, you wouldn't know they have been, and whilst here they were very tidy. The heating system itself has also surpassed expectations, quiet, reliable and I still can't get used to have a warm house 24/7 and abundant hot water with no hassle. Any small issues have been quickly resolved by Abacus with a very quick response. I would have no hesitation in recommending a ground source heating system and I would highly recommend Abacus Energy Solutions.

Amazing service throughout! I was provided with a ground source heat pump system which would suit my needs and property best as advised by Abacus.
Upon install the team the was great, giving me updates throughout the day on the progress, answering all my questions, friendly, helpful and cleaned up after themselves each day.
The ground works took around 4 days to complete. I was only without heating & hot water for 1 day which was worked around my needs by the team so I was affected to much and really appreciated this.
Upon completion Michael showed me round the system and explained it all to me.
The aftercare service is outstanding, any problems I can send a text, call or even face time them and they talk me through what I need to do. They are always quick to respond as well.
