Fiona was brilliant throughout my first property purchase. As a first-time buyer I was not always sure what to expect, but she made sure I always felt in safe hands. She walked me through everything clearly, made sure I had all the information I needed, and was always upfront about what was required from me at each stage. Whenever I had a question or needed a bit of reassurance, she was always there. I could not have asked for more. Thank you, Fiona.

Firstly, if you are looking for a one star hit piece review, this isn't it. However, if you are looking into a reason why they are one of the cheapest solicitors to assist you in buying a house, read on.
TL;DR - they didn't really help. You are probably better off going elsewhere.

We had a solicitor in training, who has been named in other reviews on this site. Repeatedly. I'm not going to do that, because I believe people can improve their skills over time. He was presented to us a solicitor, but did not offer any legal advice at all. He also didn't return calls. Or emails. Chasing emails and getting left on hold was my lasting impression of Ackroyd Legal.

We complained, but their complaint process takes 8 weeks, no good if you are in the final stages of buying a house. There was some hilarious phrasing on the receipt of complaint email too- "We're sorry you felt the need to complain". The onus is all on the person complaining. Asking for an experienced solicitor to actually help you through what is a very stressful process will be revealed to cost much more than the original price you were quoted. We had to stay with Ackroyd Legal because we close to completion - we didn't trust them to hand over to another firm in a timely fashion either, so we were stuck with them all the way to the end of the line. They crunched everything in a couple of weeks at the end of the process, and even then they still ghosted us. In the end we took to copying in their complaints team and their head of compliance to make sure someone had eyes on the ball. It was wise to take documents to their offices by hand - I felt certain they would not have been added to our file if I had not done so.

The other side's solicitors were laughing at our 'solicitor', and having no real legal representation meant we were at a disadvantage throughout the house buying process. This has cost us in terms of getting repairs done before we moved in, and their glacial response times cost the other side at least a month's mortgage - if you are looking to maintain good will with the selling side of a house sale, Ackroyd Legal may not the solicitors for you.

An aside, Ackroyd Legal have been extremely proud of their Trustpilot rating - it is mentioned in their hold music (which you will get to know well) at 4.7, but is now at 3.7. Every reply they make to a bad review they get on here talks about how they are learning, but are they? Do they even fully read the reviews? Why vow to learn lessons and then not deliver on that vow - surely that is lip service of the worst possible kind?

If they could get zero stars, I would give them that, but as I can't, I will say that star is given as a warning for you as a customer. If you are paying a cheap solicitor you will end up paying for far more than your initial savings, and only really getting a warm body to take fees and hold on to your sale until it is time to complete it with a crunch. My suspicion is that this is common industry practice unless you are willing to pay more than double to get actual help and support. My advice is to do research and find a local solicitor who may charge a little more but who will actually be present and available to help you.

I’ve had a really excellent experience working with the Ashkan Nejad Team, particularly Nima Attaie. From the outset, the communication has been incredibly slick, clear, and consistent, which makes a huge difference in what can often be a stressful process.

Nima and the wider team are not only highly professional, but also very informative and proactive. There were constant follow-ups and regular updates throughout, so I always felt fully in the loop and confident in how everything was progressing.

We are selling to sell to a nice family using Kumaran Moorthy as their conveyancing solicitor. His lack of efficiency is causing our sale to fall through. He doesn’t reply to emails or calls from our solicitor. He delays processing simple tasks and sends them duplicate requests for information already supplied. They said he doesn’t read the messages he is sent or seem to pay attention to the stages of the conveyancing process. He even delayed the searches. The buyers paid for them to be done immediately, but he never started them until our solicitors, the estate agents, and the buyers all chased him.
Now he’s being completely unhelpful and uninvolved with their broker’s delay with their mortgage that was in place last December on another property to be transferred to our address.
Everyone is distressed and frustrated. It should have been an easy sale. No chain, qualified buyers, nothing for them to sell. Instead, it has been extremely difficult because of Mr Moorthy’s lack of action on behalf of the buyers.
Solicitors are supposed to be proactive to move along a sale quickly and efficiently while working with all parties. Not the case with Ackroyd.
We want this family to have the house but because their conveyancing solicitor is so useless, we are now having to remarket the house.
I would NOT recommend this firm for conveyancing.

I used Ackroyd Legal for the sale of a tenanted property involving a number of complications that tested everyone involved. Onur Parlar handled the transaction with calm professionalism throughout, keeping things moving when they could easily have stalled.
Communication was super clear and always timely, I was kept informed of progress, and any questions were dealt with quickly and pragmatically. Completion itself was smooth and well managed, which was no small achievement given the complexities involved.
