Air Canada has become a complete joke

Air Canada has become a complete joke. Flew from London to Vancouver recently and at time of check in, they required payment of £45 just to select an economy class standard seat. What do you get for the seat you paid for? Narrow seats, obstructed leg room under the seat in front of you, and no room for your shoulders because the person next to you is essentially in your lap.

So many better airlines to choose from who are trying to take advantage of their customers in every possible way.

Dina is the Best

I called Air Canada to request a seat selection as I was unable to book a seat selection on line. I spoke to Air Canada representative, Dina. She could not have been more helpful. She was friendly and so accommodating and I appreciated her help and her wonderful personality. She went out of her way to make my request easy and I received all my confirmations by email as we spoke on the phone. A wonderful employee for Air Canada.

Great experience, but......

Flight booking, service on air plane was excellent.
Because my travel plans changed, I wanted to change my flight dates.
First, because I was in a foreign country, I was not able to get a hold on anyone. The given international phone number on their web page is not even working.
Second, because I booked through a travel agent, they said that they are not able to help. Always said to get a hold on to the travel agent. But how can you do that when you are in a foreign country and all phone numbers given are fake or disconnected????

I would give zero stars for their lost…

I would give zero stars for their lost baggage system but I can’t.
My son flew to Lisbon, Portugal on the 23rd and his suitcase was left back in Toronto, Canada. After filling out the tracking information, we see it went from Toronto to Montreal and back to Toronto. As of today (the 26th) it’s still sitting in Toronto.
The baggage claim bot says you can only talk to an actual customer service person if it’s been missing for more than 5 days.
What a joke! This clown show is pathetic. The worst customer service that I have seen.

I am very disappointed

I am very disappointed. Life is unpredictable — due to an accident and bowel surgery, I was unable to go on my trip. It wasn’t a holiday, but a long journey to visit my parents in Ukraine (three flights, over 24 hours). I notified the company a month in advance and simply asked to change the date, not for a refund. The company showed no flexibility or understanding whatsoever.

Last week, I took a flight from Toronto to Korea for some urgent business, and I was trying to return to Canada a few days later. Unfortunately, there were no available tickets, so I had a standby ticket and was trying to get back via Vancouver. I had already spent a full day at the airport, and I was completely exhausted.

While I was waiting, I started talking to a young woman who was also there. I shared my situation with her as we waited together. In the end, I wasn’t able to get a seat. She mentioned that she was a crew member.

A little while later, it was confirmed that I still couldn’t get on the flight. I waved goodbye to her, but then something incredible happened — she gave up her seat for me. I was so overwhelmed that I started crying. I thanked her over and over again.

Thankfully, the counter staff asked if she would be willing to take a jump seat behind the captain, and she agreed, so we ended up on the same flight.

And maybe it was fate — since there was no direct flight to Toronto, I had to go through Vancouver and then Montreal. I ended up seeing her three times: in Incheon, Vancouver, and Montreal.

I still can’t believe how kind someone can be. Every time we met, she tried her best to help me in any way she could.

I am so grateful that I couldn’t help but leave this review.

Thank you so, so much. I truly hope you are blessed with endless good fortune.

I was on hold with the customer support…

I was on hold with the customer support since 11:30 AM this morning Mar 17, 2026 and after 4 hours of waiting after 2:30 PM, line was cut off. I called again it's been 5 PM and still no answer. WHat is going on, people are waiting for this long hours to get help but no one is answering.
Now I missed my 24 hours of cut off time to cancel and refund my flight.Not my fault because you are not answering the phone.

DON'T TAKE the CORRECT SIZE CARRY-ON BAG on Air Canada! CHECK'M anyway SHE SAYS CONTEMPTUOUSLY!
Higher PAY for Airline Check In Counter Woman, WHY?, this one gets pissed off because AC overbooked passengers WE DIDN'T!
Her Tone was SHARP, IGNORANT & UNKIND about OUR CORRECT SIZED BAGS! WHY? We just showed up to board ( AC103 YYZ-YVR Feb14 ), not a sound from us.
Y....because Air Canada overbooked the flight...then announcements ask for volunteers to check bags...not enough volunteers...too many announcements got to her...BIG JOB HUH?
DON'T OVERBOOK SEATS, it is against Airline regulations & unsafe!

I noticed MANY OVER-SIZE BAGS allowed on before our boarding call...W hy T hat F avoritism?
HER tone was HARSH & unfriendly instructing my wife not to push the bag into the SIZER & instructing her assistant to tag my wife's carry-on & SHARPLY...TAKE THAT ONE TOO! ( my CORRECT SIZE BAG ).
Why? Does AIR now have a COST? Who made up that STUPID RULE?
What is going through her head? GUESS!
Our bags FIT INTO the overhead storage (pretty much same size as your BAG SIZER) in a De Havilland DASH-8 > told you she had an UGLY Attitude).
It is NOT UNREASONABLE NOR NON-COMPLIANT for a BAG/CARRY-ON to have AIR IN IT!
LOTS of luggage space AFTER BOARDING, stewardesses now allowing under seat bags put up into overhead.

Both our SAME Carry-On Bags have travelled on Transat, WestJet, Delta Air, Alaska Air, Lufthansa, Air Canada, Sunwing, (EACH SEVERAL TIMES, ALWAYS COMPLIANT-NEVER CHECKED).
ONLY ONE other exception, again a Woman Hissy Fit Air Canada Check-In counter.
(We had a connecting Flight & were forced to go out & back in through security to catch flight).
This does not represent smooth travel.
On that same CODE SHARE flight with Lufthansa, I had to remind a woman supervisor about CODE SHARE BAGGAGE RULES, she allowed my bag on.
( HAD the Smoking Gun Rules Screenshot READY, did not have to produce it, she was more reasonable because she knew I knew ).
I need my larger bag because my BLANKET-TOWEL & NECK REST are in it & my under seat Bag is too full to fit them.
( YOU DON'T OFFER BLANKETS & PILLOWS ), also don't want to LOSE my clothes ( I'M ATTACHED to WHAT I HAVE )!

Travelers already are MADE to WAIT for TOO MANY HOLD-UPs other than TRUTHFUL REAL NECESSARY ONEs!

Airlines want you to show up without clothes, pack your patience, DON'T PACK AIR in your Carry-On, wait after taxiing a km on tarmac to takeoff because plane overloaded, wait we need to bring a vehicle to OFF-LOAD some passengers ( employees of Air Canada in this case ) > ( should have occurred prior to aircraft moving ), luggage loading delays far too often, wait toilet not cleaned,
pilot forgot to book spot another plane there now...WAIT, etc. already WAITING for NUMEROUS maybe/maybe not OK delays.

I do not want to CHASE MY LOST LUGGAGE around or complain to CTA (Complaints FAR TO BACK-LOGGED).
Who also NEED to WAKE UP & WORK, rather than creating ANOTHER CANADIAN made DELIBERATE CUE SYNDROME, to get lawful results for mistreated Air Travelers.
WE NEED MORE COMPETITION IN THE SKIES of CANADA!
&
( WestJet, Air Canada ) END SELF SERVING BOTTLE NECK ROUTES THROUGH the WORST Airport in Canada, YYZ ( Toronto Pearson International Airport ).
( NOTE > actually to my travelling experience WORSE THAN over 3 dozen other Airports World Wide )
Clearly YYZ has trouble handling the volume, not helpful with it's conflicting UNCLEAR SIGNAGE & some very deliberately unfriendly people with ugly attitudes (nearly GUARANTEED TO ENCOUNTER).

Air Canada, your share holders should WAIT, they need to realize IF THEY DIDN'T HAVE CUSTOMERS they WOULDN'T HAVE SHARES!
In a conversation with an Aircraft Maintenance Engineer ( 2+ Decades Employment with Air Canada ), I was informed about WHO OWNS Air Canada, you might be surprised, I WAS!
Could possibly be a game changer/flight changer for your travel provider choice. ( ANOTHER REVIEW... )

Air Canada, WestJet, CTA is it REALLY...REALLY TOO MUCH to MAKE Air Travel MORE ENJOYABLE RATHER than a COMBAT ZONE? !!!

Extremely frustrating experience with…

Extremely frustrating experience with Air Canada’s booking system and customer service.
On March 13 midnight, we tried to book two round-trip business class tickets from Shanghai Pudong to Winnipeg on the Air Canada website. Everything went smoothly until the payment step. We used two payment methods: a $500 Air Canada e-gift card and a credit card.
The $500 gift card was successfully charged. Our first credit card (Scotiabank) was declined, so we switched to an RBC credit card. After submitting the payment, the website showed a message saying the tickets were “on hold” and that processing might take a few hours, with “no action required.”
Since our gift card had already been charged, we called our bank and confirmed there was no payment attempt from Air Canada and that the credit card had sufficient available credit. We then tried to contact Air Canada customer service but could only reach an automated system and could not speak to a live agent.
Early in the morning we finally reached an agent, who confirmed the tickets were still on hold. We agreed to pay the remaining balance immediately, but we were told that the booking had expired because the payment was not completed in time.
This makes no sense. The website itself told us the booking was being processed and that no action was required, which prevented us from completing the payment. Meanwhile, our $500 gift card had already been charged and the ticket price had increased significantly by the time we could speak to someone.
Because of a broken booking system and poor customer service, we lost the original fare and had funds taken from our gift card with no clear resolution. Very disappointing experience and extremely poor support from Air Canada.

Absolutely Appalling service!!!

Absolutely Appalling service!!!
You cannot contact anyone.. not by telephone or online… AT ALL
This airline does not care about customers in the slightest… and I’m not exaggerating.

My flights were changed by the airline and I need to cancel and get a refund.. I’ve tried for a whole month calling endlessly.. can’t get through
So, I’ve lost my money and they’ve gained from this

MY EXPERIENCE AS A EXPERIENCED AIRCRAFT TECHNICIAN IS THAT AIR CANADA HEAVY MAINTENANCE IN YWG WINNIPEG BASE IS ONE OF THE WORST AIRLINES OUT THEIR I HAVE EVER WORKED FOR IN MY LIFE NOT FIT TO WORK FOR PERIOD EVERYONE THEIR WANTS TO RAT YOU OUT AND BACK STAB YOU IN THE BACK BECAUSE THEY DON,T LIKE THE WAY YOU LOOK ,WALK,TALK, OR RACE A VERY IGNORENT COMPANY PRICKHEADS IS A UNDERSTATEMENT FOR THESE MORONS NO ONE THEIR CAN BE TRUSTED THEIR ALL IN BED WITH MANAGEMENT BAG LICKING IT,S LIKE BEING SENTENCED IN A PRISON WORKING FOR A HEAD WARDEN STAY FAR CLEAR OF THIS COMPANY.

Delightful Delay

I recently took a flight from FSJ to Vancouver, then on to Comox. The thick fog of YVR caused canceled flights. My flights were re-booked asap, with text notifications keeping me in the loop. From beginning to end the level of customer service was 10/10. The flight crew kept the trend of best 'worst trip home' going with their super positive, light hearted attitudes and care with a plane full of people anxious at the prospect of a redirect if the weather at Comox was rubbish.

Hats off to you AC, thank you for the air care! 🥰

customer service helpful

Customer service was friendly, helpful, +professional across the board (online, on the phone, and in person at the airports, as well as on board) Helped with my questions and even gave suggestions and advice that enhanced my travel. I only dealt with one young lady who was a bit rude at Pearson and her co workers went out of their way to apologize and make up for her attitude. I actually overlooked it as everyone has a bad day. Oh, and if you aren't prepared to deal with flight delays due to weather, or mechanical issues maybe you should rethink flying.

Racist bunch

We ( my wife and me) were travelling business class from Edmonton to SFO. At checkin, as we were moving towards the priority checkin, one of the ground staff rudely said this is not your que, pointing us to the economy checkin counter. I turned and questioned him "excuse me?" And he walked away without saying anything.
In the plane an elderly lady used the washroom before my wife and therevwas water in the sink, after my wife used the washroom there was still water in the sink. The attendant called after my wife and asked her to drain the sink. What he hell. If she forgot so did the other lady. But he called my wife because we are brown. Bull shit. They are racist.
And I am going to post this on every platform available. So you telling us clean washroom flying in business class.
Really ashamed of your flights. I m not paying extra to cleanup after somones mess You are racist. Tell me if the white people give you extra for business class tickets.

Air Canada 🥴 never again. massive delays . Missed connecting flights and due to the staff attitude , no urgency ,didn’t show any customer service skills or look like they wanted to help, missed a second flight and had to stay over . Staff just didn’t care . 💩

The air canada website might be worse than being waterboarded. It is the most excruciating experience that is endlessly clicking your way through sales pitches, add-ons and them draining more and more personal information out about you. NEVER use the website and save your heart the stress by just avoiding it and doing it at the airport. Its disgusting and customers should know to avoid it.
