Ardent Training Reviews

I read most of Bowditch…understood about 30% of it. I read a lot of Chapman, but it’s also really dense. This course covered a lot of ground, but broke it down pretty well and I feel like I could retain a lot more. The course materials themselves are great, and having someone immediately available (between 8 and 8 UK time) ended up being extremely valuable. My only complaint was bugginess in the various interfaces. Strongly recommend using a laptop and the website for the screen size and more predictable behavior. My iPhone had pretty frequent issues with both the app and the RYA tides site (which is not Ardent’s fault, but it’s required for the course). Like, it would delete my last answer on a test question unless I hid the keyboard before going to the next question, or give me tides info from a previously used date if I didn’t reload the site first. So, I take off one star for those issues, but the staff really were on the ball when they arose, so I’d still recommend the company rather highly. Also, if you’re in the US, the questions always assume IALA-A and their DST is not the same as here, so remember to always translate.

The day skipper this was an absolutely brilliant course that was a pleasure to go through with Ardent training. It's structured into small chunks that are easy to process even during short breaks like lunch so even if you have 10 minutes, you can progress in the course. The text and video format is the format to go with in 2026 and many chapters can be done by just using headphones without a video while doing something else. I enjoyed every bit of it, it's nothing like an old boring PowerPoint presentation based course. With the videos and Ardent instructors, it feels very pleasant and personal.

Very clear instructional videos and an instructor available to assist when I had any questions.

This is a really good company to do courses with. The instructor team are always happy to help you and respond very quickly. I really liked all the feedback and help I received after my mock exam and I also liked how the content was informative but still fun.

This was a great experience. The team have made learning a quite complicated subject really easy, I did the day skipper online course. Everything has been seamless and the team have always been on hand to reply promptly to any queries. Response times for marking exams was amazing, even at weekends.

I recently completed my Day Skipper Theory course with Ardent Training and was extremely impressed with the quality of the service.
The course videos were clear, engaging and easy to follow, with excellent explanations throughout. The practical exercises were particularly helpful, allowing me to confirm my understanding before moving on to the next topic. This made the learning process feel structured and manageable, while also building confidence as the course progressed.
One of the standout features was the support from the instructors. They are available seven days a week and consistently responded to my questions within around five minutes. Their knowledge, professionalism and willingness to help made a real difference to my learning experience.
Overall, Ardent Training provides a highly professional, well-organised and supportive service. I would have no hesitation in recommending them to anyone considering their Day Skipper Theory course or further sailing qualifications.

Ardent Training is simply top of the bill and definitely worth the price.
Even though it’s an online course, it really feels as if the instructors are right there beside you. The combination of videos and clear presentations works extremely well, and the knowledge checks, assessment modules and mock exam prepare you thoroughly for the final exam.
You receive detailed and useful feedback on your exercises via chat or email. A pool of instructors takes turns being available, so there is always someone there to help. The live chat and mail are incredibly quick.
I also really appreciated their motivating and personal approach. The course goes in depth into the theory, while always linking it to practical situations, which makes the learning very realistic and relevant.
Great passionate people, excellent explanations and fantastic support. I’m definitely a fan and I’ll be continuing my RYA journey with Ardent Training for the Coastal Skipper theory!

They promise at the start that if you put in the work, you will pass the exam. The quality of the course material, its presentation, knowledge checks and assessments along the way really make sure of that. Most impressive was the support along the way. Unless you're working on this at an ungodly hour, expect near-instant responses to any question. Similar story with the grading of assessments and the exam. Top notch!

Excellent!! Very prompt responses and detailed feedback from instructors during the course .. which, by the way, is also first class! The dual slides and video presentations is a great idea and helps a lot in delivering and understanding the course content. Great job Ardent!!

I did my day skipper theory course with Ardent and it was a fantastic experience. All the information was presented clearly and thoroughly. The tests throughout the course really helped to solidify my knowledge. The assistance from the course tutors was excellent as well with quick and complete feedback and help when needed. I'll definitely be using Ardent for my costal skipper theory. O and I have now passed the practical for day skipper and the Ardent theory course really helped to prepare me well for that.

The Ardent team are all wonderful. They’ve provided amazing content, well structured, and generously explained! Whenever I had a question, the team was ready to respond within minutes, always in an enthusiastic and supportive manner. I will miss my training sessions at Ardent! It was a lot of fun to go through the RYA Coastal Skipper and Yachtmaster Offshore Theory course and exam! I highly recommend any of their courses. Thank you all at Ardent!

The whole course was so clear and fun to learn, because Ardent Training had different ways of teaching the same thing, with texts, but also visually and practically. There were a lot of tests in between, which was perfect, because one could see if the subject was understood.
The Ardent Training Team was incredibly helpful and patient. Every time I had a question I got an answer literally within minutes. I would recommend Ardent Training to anyone who wants to learn how to sail and have fun doing it!!!!

Clear explanations and useful exercises.
Also the varied subjects and multiple tutors made it nice to watch.
At exam time, the instructors were very fast in their responses.

The quality of the training materials is excellent and the response from the instructors is almost real time, even on weekends, it is unbelievable good for online training.

The online courses were well laid out. Instructors were prompt in response to questions and very patient. I have done the Day Skipper and now the Yachtmaster Theory. I highly recommend Ardent Training.

Incredible people. Love the way they explain the material, also the live chat is quick and never disappoints. Definitely worth the price! Haven’t finished my course yet, but feel fairly confident already that I’ll pass my exam.

All the coastal theory explained clearly in videos and notes with knowledge checks and end of unit assessments to help you with the final examinations. Being able to access the material and revisit the information was important for me as I needed flexibility in the timing for learning and assessments.

Just finished my Day Skipper Course. Phew!

Far more time consuming and grueling than I expected. Some sections are very dry and tedious which is where it helped massively to be able to speed up the dialogue to at least 1.25 times normal. For me, I estimate the course took over 100 hours over 2 months, doing several hours each day and evening.

Some of the video could do with better editing to make it more concise. less time consuming and less pally, pally, touchy feely!

Best feature is the live chat which helped to get me through some of the much more difficult sections where more explanation is required.

Mock and final exam each took me much longer than the required 3 hours, but fortunately there was some leeway granted to actually complete. I would suggest revising for a few days prior, just to brush up on lights, sounds, give way and stand on, maritime terminology etc, but again the feedback given by the instructors was absolutely fantastic, without which I would have struggled more.

Stamina and persistence definitely required, but give it a go!

The quality of the course content, and the support from the tutors, which was first class and extremely responsive.

Loving Day Skipper Theory with Ardent. Feels so authentic with people genuinely passionate about what they're doing and the success of the students on the course.

Great content delivery platform (just upgraded) and excellent flow, structure and presentation.

Well done guys! Will be doing all my theory with Ardent.
