AstonMTB's unconventional business model allows Paul Aston to provide truly independent reviews. As buyers we are generally unable to 'try before we buy' and reviews are a large part of what we have to try and understand if a product is good/bad. Truly independent reviews are a must and need to be supported (if possible) if they are to continue. The fact that some brands are listening and making changes (and making bikes better) shouldn't be ignored. Long may it continue...

What makes Paul great are his amazing reviews, not driven by the markets standars but drived by his own extremely huge experience and competence in the mtb world. But i have the pleasure to discover that another thing that make Paul "More great" is how carefull and kind he is!

When I stumbled upon Pauls's Youtube Channel and website a year ago, I finally felt like I found an MTB Journalist who was going about reviews with forward thinking, ethics, and honesty. Too many outlets are compromised by corporate interests to keep their lights on, and their journalist freedom is thus restricted. Paul Aston is using a novel business model to separate the in my eyes sacred independent critique required to make better products from the dependence on the goodwill of brands to supply them.

I have taken part in a few of his competitions to support the goals of building bikes better. I was lucky enough to win one of the competitions a few months ago for the Sram AXS drivetrain. Paul was then very gracious and accommodating for a change I requested in the prize. I share his interest in gearbox-driven bikes so I asked to substitute the prize for a set of hope brakes which he holds in high regard. Paul is a good communicator who went out of his way to make sure I was happy and satisfied.

I received the prize brakes about a week ago, and they are everything he says they are. Truly stunning.
I can absolutely recommend AstonMTB for quality journalism, fair competitions, and trustworthiness.

Despite the excellent odds I was still blown away to be an Aston MTB competition winner! My prize exceeded expectations and I'll certainly be entering again. What Paul is trying to achieve is inspiring and anyone who loves mountain biking should give Aston MTB a follow and support to help to get bikes build better!

I’m quite interested in the technology behind bikes and super eager to read about the latest and greatest products. I’m not sure if/how much of these reviews are paid to sound really nice, so I was curious while reading a review from Paul a few years ago (Enve..), because this was definitely not paid/altered in any way. Since he makes independent reviews I’m even more interested into his findings, conclusions an his, at first glance, bit weird bikes, but I love the story/reasons behind them. A while back I started to donate some money in form of tickets without the intent do win something, but here I am, a two-time winner :-) @Paul: keep up your curious mind and your easy-to-understand reviews/argumentations.

Paul is honest and transparent and always up for a good chat about bikes. In discussions I much appreciate him sharing his experiences but admitting the limits of his knowledge with humility - this builds trust.

Independent testing comes up against all sorts of limitations and, while Paul's height is at the taller end of the bell curve, the perspective and reliability testing Paul provides is one that is highly relevant to all us average consumers trying to get the most out of our riding. I feel Paul is really onto something with his independent approach and worth supporting! A welcome bit of honesty and transparency in an industry that is so dominated by marketing !

If you're smart about what you read then it's a no brainer to support guys like Paul. Without unbiased reviews like this, your hard earned dollars are being siphoned away on products without any sort of critical judgement.

I love the model that he's employing with the giveaways, and it makes it all the easier to support him like this. The transparency with the process is solid too.

I did win one of the raffles so I'm a little biased.

However, I have also spent serious money on bike kit that I've only ever read superlative reviews about, only to be surprised with sub-par defects so I truly believe in what he's doing.

So easy to purchase a ticket and be in the draw, very consistent and transparent with running the draw and how many other tickets have sold. Always think I'm a chance to win (never have) but I will for sure keep supporting AstonMTB keep it up and keep up the great prises.

I won a Works headset from AstonMTB, I received it a few weeks later and an additional offset headset! He was really helpful with setup tips and pointed me in the right direction to get my suspension setup on the other side of the world. Thanks Paul!
