Avoid
Athena Home Loans promotes competitive rates, but in reality their pricing is no longer attractive and there’s zero flexibility.
Customer service is unacceptable. We’ve been waiting over four weeks for help and were told nothing could be done because the key contact is on leave. No backup. No ownership. No urgency.
For a home loan, this level of service is simply not good enough. I would not recommend Athena.

Athena used to have very sharp rates…
Athena used to have very sharp rates but now there are many other lenders with lower rates and no fees. Athena say that once your LVR drops you get a lower rate but they make this very difficult to action

Our Accelerates feature (where your rate drops as you pay down your loan) is linked to your loan-to-value ratio (LVR). As your LVR tier drops, your interest rate automatically drops too.
Like all lenders, we rely on independent valuations to determine a property's value. These valuations are completed by qualified third-party valuers who follow regulated standards and operate independently from Athena, which means we can't influence or overrule the outcome.
We understand it can be frustrating when a valuation result isn't what you expected. Following your complaint, we reviewed the valuation process and followed up with the valuer to confirm the property was assessed appropriately. We also passed your latest feedback on to them for further consideration.
We’re always reviewing our rates and products to stay fiercely fair and competitive - and we know interest rates and fees are just one part of the bigger picture when choosing a home loan. We're proud that our fair value offering goes far beyond no fees - we're industry advocates for abolishing the "loyalty tax" (a common practice where existing customers get charged higher rates than new customers for the exact same loan).

Would use again
Heath was very helpful when I applied for my loan. He followed up without being annoying and always got back to me.
Following that, was it the smoothest of transactions? probably not, at times getting double info from different people that didn’t match. But I went with the flow and it worked out.
Approval /settlement were quick and drama free. I would use again.
