I used Bordr as my fiscal representative in Portugal, anticipating that I might move there. I have since decided to not move, so needed to cancel the service. They were excellent in providing all the needed steps to get through the intricacies of working with another government in another language. Because they alerted me to the renewal several months in advance, I was able to get everything completed before the renewal date.

They charged me $150 after three written cancellations. Do not use without an attorney.
I hired Bordr for one thing: to get a Portuguese NIF. They delivered it. That part worked.
What followed was a masterclass in obstruction.
When I decided not to move to Portugal, I sent a formal written cancellation in December 2025, explicitly revoking card authorization. They acknowledged receipt. Then sent four more renewal notices anyway. I sent two more cancellations. They charged my card $150 on April 6, 2026 regardless.
Their cancellation process requires a government document from the Portuguese Finance Portal. Despite my many cancellation attempts on this portal, which doesn't work there is no cancellation. It is a circular trap.
Use a credit card that will not be charged again because they will rip you off.
I am a US citizen with no Portuguese tax obligations and no plans to move. There is no legal reason I should have been billed for a second year of fiscal representation I never agreed to.
I have filed a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission. I have initiated a chargeback. The Finance Portal now shows my cancellation as pending. Again, after multiple attempts. The portal does not work.
The Power of Attorney you sign is described as being for NIF acquisition only. Read it carefully before you sign anything. Then get an independent attorney to review it. Do not take their word for what it covers.
If your Portugal plans change, assume getting out will cost you time, money, and significant frustration.
Lesson: do this on your own. Do not hire this company. I regret ever getting involved with them.

Fiscal representation remains active until it is formally removed through the Portal das Finanças. This step must be initiated by the NIF holder, and until it is completed, our lawyers remain listed as the fiscal representative.
The charge occurred because the fiscal representation was still active in the official records, and we had not yet received confirmation of its removal (such as an updated NIF or Certidão) before the renewal date.
We aim to support customers through this process with clear guidance and email reminders. Our team is always available via email to help. That said, we replied to your message directly and we’re committed to resolving this as quickly as possible.
We recognize this process can feel unclear or cumbersome, and we’re taking your feedback seriously as we continue improving how we communicate and support our customers through it.

Contacting their offices via phone is impossible, unless of course you know someone who speaks Portuguese.
So a new acquaintance referred me to Bordr. Within 5 days of submitting the necessary documents, I had my NIF. So painless and well worth the nominal fee.

Afterv a while I decided that Portugal was no longer an option and they gave me precise instructions on how to remove my fiscal representation.
