BEWARE of Brighter Life Labs
This is a warning to anyone that might consider using this lab. You will need to be a detective before doing so. If I had known what a convoluted mess I was going to get into, this “lab” would have never received my money. Word to the wise: do your research before buying anything online these days.
I purchased an at-home kit from Brighter Life Labs recently and missed an important note about my order (that is on me). There are no refunds after hitting submit. This place offers a variety of at-home tests, and each one has another lab listed in the product descriptions.
The test I purchased was associated with a Genova Labs which I erroneously assumed was the manufacturer of this test kit. I find Brighter Life’s website vague on the actual testing process. They do not clearly mention that you buy the kit through them, receive it from Genova Labs, and then have to pay Genova Labs for specimen collection. Had I known that Brighter Life was the middle man, I would not have wasted money.
Well, since this experience started off poorly, I did my due diligence this time and researched Genova Labs. There is nothing but complaints on Trust Pilot, BBB, and Yelp regarding this lab. The complaints mainly revolve around fraudulent or deceptive billing practices and are fairly consistent.
When you receive the kit it needs to be activated on Genova’s website. Then, they require payment through self-pay or insurance to complete the testing. I was not able to choose self-pay, which means that no prices were given to me. It appears Brighter Life Labs chose themselves as the party to be billed. I could not change this on the website.
This all seems reasonable until you read all the complaints. They commonly state that Genova will receive some type of payment and then sometimes, after the consumer thinks the test is paid in full, there will be an exorbitant bill that arrives months later (some people mention being sent to collections).
I do not want the headache of potentially dealing with all of this. I just want results from the test. So, I decided not to go forward with having any specimens collected. I am writing all this to try and provide some type of transparency to those that may look for reviews before purchasing test kits.
Brighter Life Labs seems to be the medical provider that orders the testing through Genova for the consumer. No where on their website was this clearly stated. I feel duped. It would be helpful to inform the consumer that the test will arrive from the lab listed within the product description and not from Brighter Life. And while they do list that the consumer is responsible for paying for specimen collection, they do not mention the consumer pays the other lab for this, not the phlebotomy lab directly (which is what I assumed).
I cannot say what the experience with Genova Labs would be like as I am too worried it will create a financial headache. But the negative reviews are all over the internet and I don’t want to take any chances.
Please don’t be uninformed like me and waste your hard earned money on these places that operate under vague and deceptive practices. I would warn anyone against using these labs.
My feedback to Brighter Life Labs is to clearly spell out the entire process: consumer purchases another lab’s testing kit from Brighter Life, then consumer coordinates with the other lab for results and specimen collection payment, and finally not really sure what Brighter Life Lab offers after this but it would be nice if they were transparent about it. I will end with how I find it interesting that I can find NO reviews online about Brighter Life Labs. Take that as you will.
Now I’m out of $240 because I blindly trusted a website that offers healthcare-related products.
