CAPTCHA is a pain in the **** it is…
CAPTCHA is a pain in the **** it is generally used on sites where you have already paid some money, for postage or the likes. When I want to track a parcel, which has been paid for with good money, the last thing I want, when I am in a hurry, is to have to fart about with Captcha, which more often than not requires several attempts to pass, even when you KNOW the last try should have been accepted. If Captcha wants public support then the least they can do is make their crappy code work. Captcha, as it is, is the most user unfriendly app I have ever come into contact with. There are viruses that are less invasive. If you are challenged by Captcha, and the image is so poor that it is uncertain, or it ask again when you know you clicked the right squares, then complain to the site you are trying to use. Captcha needs to work first time, every time, or they need to withdraw and come back when it actually works. It is not meant to block valid attempts to use the paid for service.
Also, for the record, every time Captcha ignores a proper response, it give the bots and spam attacks another go at getting it right. Why not just send them a solution and save time.
The best way to use Captcha is DON’T. Do you hate your valued customers that much. I bet you would not put Capture on your toilet door!
Another great internet service that DOES NOT WORK. I hate it, and seeing it gone would make me very happy.
For the companies that use it - why not integrate a real automatic challenge response into the email you send your customer, or make it part of the account they have with you. Then you still block the rubbish, but without pratting your customers about. If your coders can't do it... get some new coders.
