Unreliable and dishonest
Unreliable and dishonest. Avoid.
I booked a deep clean during which a cleaner caused significant damage to my fittings (I have photographic evidence). The cleaner used a cleaning solution provided by Cleaning Express (CE) which completely corroded the chrome finish on my fittings. Initially, CE appeared willing to resolve the issue and compensate me, asking me to source replacement parts and provide costs.
After much difficulty getting in touch with the original parts manufacturers, I was informed that the exact models were no longer in production, meaning a like-for-like replacement was not possible — something CE later confirmed themselves. After a lot of unnecessary running around on my end, I eventually sourced suitable replacements, only to then be told these wouldn’t be suitable for CE’s insurance process — despite CE never mentioning any insurance process or any associated deadlines earlier.
After prolonged back and forth, CE acknowledged total damages of around £800 and claimed to have submitted it to their insurance. Weeks later, I was told that the claim would actually have to go through the cleaner’s insurance because the cleaner was a contractor—and, unbelievably, CE expected me to put together all the evidence myself (after all the running around I already had to do because of them.) I told them this administrative burden rested with them as I had provided all the necessary information from my side already. CE assured me they would put together the necessary documentation for the cleaner’s insurance process.
When I chased up weeks later to see if they had submitted the claim, CE told me the cleaner was on holiday and I would just have to wait. It is also at this point, nearly 10 MONTHS AFTER the damage occurred, CE suddenly decided to “be fully transparent” and pull out their Terms & Conditions for the first time. There had been no mention or reference to this at any earlier stage, highlighting how arbitrary and last-minute their rules were - CE themselves have acknowledged how they have conveniently “overlooked” mentioning this in any previous communication.
After more delays caused by them, CE finally claimed it was too late to submit to insurance, that it probably wouldn’t be accepted anyway if I attempted to go ahead with it, hence I should be grateful to them for offering a partial compensation.
In the end, CE paid £500 for damages they themselves assessed at around £800. On top of this, I had already paid over £300 for the deep clean, which was never refunded. Also not to mention, compensation for the unnecessary time I spent chasing this matter due to their poor communication. I work full time and do not have the hours to be running in circles while they delay and change their story. I do not understand how this can be considered fair or reasonable compensation.
I am leaving this review so others do not have to go through the same ordeal. I have full evidence of everything, so any excuses or nonsense in their replies will be easily disproven. Avoid using them at all costs!

In rare cases when damage occurs, we work quickly to resolve the situation. When the damage is reported, we follow a formal investigation and compensation process in line with our Terms & Conditions, which are shared with every booking and attached to the original invoice before the service. In this particular case, the claim became more complex due to the over 7-month delay between the service and the actual cost information being provided. In line with industry standards, our insurance covers claims reported promptly and for damages above £500. As backdated claims or smaller amounts are generally not eligible, we explored an alternative route through the self-employed subcontractor's insurance.
To avoid further delays and the likelihood of a rejected claim, we ultimately agreed to compensate for the documented cost of the damaged items we received. While we recognise that the process took longer than expected, we did everything reasonably possible to reach a fair outcome given the circumstances and limitations involved. Ultimately, this settlement was accepted and fully paid.
We regret that the experience fell short of expectations and are taking this feedback seriously to improve our communication and processes going forward.

Charges for leaving & difficult to leave
No complaints regarding the cleaners. But the cleaning agency failed to highlight clauses with the direct debit re closing the account. Turns out somewhere buried in the T&Cs I was supposed to see a 1 month notice period for termination, and must pay £60 for December when my last cleaning session (which I paid for) was the 11th of November…. With any previous subscriptions I’ve been able to terminate effective immediately by cancelling the direct debit so I think it’s unprofessional to not clarify that during sign up. Also, the contract specifies that you don’t need to start paying the agency fee until 24 hours before the first cleaning session. However, they took my first payment a whole month before my first cleaning session was scheduled, so you’d think that would count as my exit payment, but no!

We do our best to be transparent with all clients, and our cancellation policy is included in both the quotation email as well as in our Terms & Conditions, which are sent before the Direct Debit is set up. This policy explains that regular services require one month’s written notice and that the agency fee remains payable during the notice period.
We genuinely care about our cleaners and their well-being. Having a notice period ensures they have a steady schedule and the opportunity to be allocated elsewhere, so they do not miss out on their salary. We are proud to be a London Living Wage employer and support our cleaners in every way we can, helping them maintain a decent life in London.
Regarding the initial payment, although it was taken before your first clean, it covered the agency fee for the first month of service and does not count as a cancellation fee.
We also genuinely appreciate your feedback about accessibility and communication, as it helps us improve how we present important information to our customers. If any terms are ever unclear, we are always happy to explain them and support you however we can.

I honestly couldn’t believe it but they rescued the flat that was left neglected by our tenants for years.
