A Successful and Reliable Doctor Berkay Akmaz
My presbyopia has significantly impacted my ability to perform screen-based work. I spent many years trying to alleviate the problem with a monitor work eyeglass. After concluding that both the computer eyeglasses and reading glasses greatly affect my quality of life, I began considering the Smart-Lens operation as an alternative solution.
First, I scheduled an appointment with a renowned professor at a well-known eye clinic in Izmir. In our personal discussion, however, he failed to leave me with the impression of a trustworthy sense of security to operate on me. Additionally, the procedure was unattractive to me because the cost he quoted matched those in my home country Germany.
On the recommendation of a friend from my close circle in Izmir, who formerly was the director of a private eye clinic, I contacted Assoc. Prof. Berkay Akmaz and arranged an appointment. Because of the many positive reviews I had read about him before the appointment, I already had a good first impression. In addition, during our personal conversation, he gave satisfactory answers to all my questions, was warm, relaxed, confident in his surgical success, trustworthy, and flexible regarding costs. He addressed my expectations, which ultimately led me to decide to have the operation with him.
I was operated on the same day at İzmir Özel Sağlık Hospital. First the right eye, then the left. The entire operation took about 30 minutes. I felt no pain. In the first hours after the operation, there was a slight burning and tingling around the eyes, which was considered normal. On the same day, I could see small details incredibly well up close. The vision for distance is not yet 100% as expected due to the technical design of the lens, and light sensitivity in the evenings and in sunlight is stronger in the first days, but it is developing positively day by day. In fact, Mr. Berkay Akmaz explained that further adaptation of the eyes occurs through the brain, which, like a process of acclimatization, accepts the foreign-body implant as part of the body and will bring the distance to the desired quality within about three months. He compared it to the example of a dental filling, where our tongue instinctively constantly checks the filling at first; after a while we forget it, and it becomes a normal part of the tooth.
