We had a deeply disappointing experience with Graham Shannon of EMG Solicitors. We felt the employment law advice we received was alarmist, unbalanced, and ultimately unhelpful, forcing us to seek (and pay for) further legal guidance elsewhere.

In addition, I felt disregarded - as a female - during the consultation, despite being a company director and the main point of contact.

We raised a formal complaint, but the response lacked accountability and offered no resolution.

Also, they have chased and chased me for payment of their invoice even though I 100% dispute it. They are completely intransigent, stubborn and ignorant.

I have directed my complaints to the Legal Ombudsman (LO) and the Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA).

Based on our experience, I would not recommend EMG for employment advice or professional client care and I wouldn't recommend them as decent people, either.

FYI, we went to Square One Law who were absolutely brilliant.

They haven't been in touch with me privately, at all - unless you count rejecting my complaint in its entirety.

We used Emg solicitors to sell our home and purchase another very recently. Callum and his team were amazing. They never failed to answer or return a call, they kept us updated throughout. They absolutely went above and beyond to ensure our sale and purchase was completed as promptly as possible, with professionalism and ease. We felt totally valued throughout. Thank you to all involved.

The overall information provided was “okay” but the company is a disaster to deal with and came close to derailing both selling and buying transactions through very late reactions.

On multiple occasions I had no response to multiple emails and voice messages.

Spelling mistakes in documents that were not corrected.

Overall EMG is not very professional.

Urgent: Do not use EMG Solicitors for buying or selling property. Their service is extremely unprofessional—they’re frequently unavailable and repeatedly provide false or misleading information. You will regret entrusting them with your transaction.

I can't fault them as people as it is obvious that they care about the work they do. It always takes a long time to find out what to do for the best but it can be very frustrating to wait for it all to work out for the best. Surely they understand that it was my money that they gave to my sister for helping with the case but doing things like that without telling me?... I went mad! I'm still mad about it. They mad?

Horrendous customer service. Contacted EMG solicitors to ask for an initial 30 minute free consultation to discuss options regarding inheritance / family issues. Natalie rang slightly earlier than our 3pm time slot. I asked if she could ring back in 2 minutes as I was driving and around the corner from my property however, she advised ‘no’ as she had been double booked and was required to make a further phone call. Advised Natalie of the current situation and we asked generalised questions in regards to our query. Natalie did not appear knowledgeable about our query, she was unable to provide any free advice and stipulated she would need to charge for her services. Really unhelpful and quite frankly rude. I would not recommend Natalie.

We used Richard Swinbank's team (Paige and Susan) to help us sell a property in Saltburn. From start to finish they were professional, friendly and their experience in just getting things done shone through. Completion went extremely smoothly today. They are absolutely my go to team for this work and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend them.

I chose EMG solicitors because of the good price they offered for purchasing my house, and was thrilled with the excellent service they offered. I was a first time buyer with lots of questions but they explained everything to me without judgement, the purchase was quick and smooth with excellent communication, and I even received a lovely card from the team when I moved into my new home. Thank you so much EMG!

EMG represented my ex wife during children's arrangements and finances, both requiring the input of the family court. Julia's Middleton's work was of a very poor standard, she seems not to know who the respondent or applicant was, she was inconsistent with salary information, using my ex wife's net salary and my gross salary, she struggled to fill in court paper work so my solicitor had to correct her many errors. Julia also seemed to not understand how to calculate equity in a property.

My outcome in both issues was better than I expected, so I should really thank Julia as it would appear that for all of Julia's input she failed to achieve anything.

I used EMG Solicitors for a property purchase and found the whole experience excellent.

Unfortunately my mums house buyers used these solicitors and they were awful!
No communication from them for weeks at a time . They gave the ok to move then said they weren’t ready costing us money in late cancellation fees with the removal company! This went on another 4 weeks.

I would not recommend EMG for a commercial mortgage conveyancing. Found them unprofessional and patronising at times. They caused me a huge problem at the end of the process and just shrugged there shoulders and left me to sort out myself. Would not recommend.

I researched a range of solicitors and asked for quotes, EMG were by far the best price, I spoke to Gillian on the phone and she was great so I felt confident instructing her. Charlotte and Gillian have kept me updated through the entire process and answered all my 'first time buyer' questions promptly. I'm really glad I worked with them and would highly recommend, a very professional service.

EMG did my house purchase. No issues, nice and clear communication. Would recommend.

Unfortunately EMG were involved during our house purchase as we needed a deed approval from the neighbours, who appointed them. Callum was unfortunately the solicitor appointed, and he was beyond useless, downright appalling. He lied about when he had received consent documents from relevant parties, which delayed the whole process by months. He lied to our solicitor, who found him to be very unprofessional, refused to answers emails or phone calls from him or other solicitors involved. The estate agent we bought through even said they were gutted when they found out EMG, particularly Callum was involved as they knew it would be a disaster. We tried to get one of the directors of the firm involved and he did nothing to speed things up or even apologies for his employee's negligence. If they were my solicitors I would have filed an official complaint and taken legal action against them. Cannot urge you enough to avoid them!

Extensive information sent to the Solicitors before the appointment as requested. Nothing read by Greame / solictor at the law firm.
I never received an email at 'tea time' the night before my appointment asking me to make payment 240.00 plus vat. No such email received. No information during 3 phone calls with 'Phil' and a female administrator (when making the appointment) about making such a payment in the weeks prior either. Makes you wonder is the system working? Why leave an issue like that to the night before you attend? Did they send the email at all or to the wrong address?
I was happy to make payment at my appointment but unfortunately they did not have a card machine in the Gosforth office?
'Greame' was late for the appointment. Not a great start. No email for payment and late to see his client.
I found the attitude of the solicitor appalling. I have never felt so belittled. Not only had he read nothing he was treating me not like a client but 'something else'. No handshake on arrival, or warm welcome when he entered the room. He showed no compassion or empathy throughout. I was required to end the meeting as it was clear he was not happy talking to me and I was doing all the talking as he read nothing. He then stated that he felt I would 'not pay EMG anyway'. I felt hurt, shame and embarrased.
I asked my daughter if she was spoken to in the reception by the receptionist while she waited for me. She said nothing to her and did not ask if she wanted a drink etc. She never said a word? In the window of the Gosforth office there are child focused pictures with staff I assume and a large friendly toy elephant. It appeared very welcoming on entering. The complete opposite experience occurred.
I do have mental health issues, I have a beard, a nose ring and an earing and some tattoos. My daughter is just a 10 year old child with special needs and is awaiting a school to meet her needs.
1 is far to high a score for this experience. I will be making a formal complaint to the owners/partners of EMG Solictors in the coming days.
