Love FirstVet

Love FirstVet. Used there service several times now and always receive great advice from their vets. Even better when the appointment is free through my pet insurance!

Spoke with Dr Cox O'Shea tonight and again she was fantastic! Examination was good with what she could do over a virtual assessment and recommendations on what steps we could do to make our Skye more comfortable till we get to our local vets in the morning was ideal, worked at treat. We were in a panic when we called and she helped ease our stress with her hints and tips.

If we need to use Firstvet again, I will always try and get an appointment with Dr Cox O'Shea.

First time service user. Highly recommend.

This was my first time using this service, with our 9 week old pup. My appointment was within 20 mins of requesting it, and the video call let the vet see my pup and make his assessment. I felt so much more reassured after the call.

This was my first consultation with FirstVet

This was my first consultation with FirstVet and I was very impressed. It was a very user-friendly process, I could easily provide photographs and could also reverse the camera on the video call so the vet could see my dog. The report that was emailed to me afterwards is valuable as sometimes it’s easy to forget everything discussed in a consultation. Having this service available 24/7 is infinitely reassuring and I recommend it to every pet owner.

Highly recmended

Friendly, knowledgeable and reassuring. Great service. Its typiçal pets get ill out of normal working hours.so this is a great bonus to our pet insurance. Recommend highly.

Hugely Valuable Service- saved me £££s

I have used First Vet a few times since my insurance started to provide the calls for free. They are wonderful, especially when you’re in a panicked ‘fur baby’ state and want answers ASAP. It also saved me a few times from making a trip to the Late night emergency vet.

All the vets I have spoke to are caring, considerate and take their time understanding your pets problems! I have recommended the service to several people I know.

Excellent service

This was my first call to First Vet. I cannot believe how easy and efficient it was. As a first time dog owner it’s reassuring to have this service.

My dog was diagnosed with probable gastroenteritis

My dog was diagnosed with probable gastroenteritis. The vet was very helpful.
It’s very reassuring to have access 24/7 to a vet for certain things.

Great here is the notes emailed to me afterwards
treatment / recommendation:

Diarrhea

Current status
mm pink and moist, no pain on abdominal palp, Turgor skin normal, no panting
Woody is well in himself, a bit quite on the consultation, but reacting when called, hasn't been vomiting, no blood in stool, lack of appetite today but eating treats, drinking but not as much
a rescue dog, had his flea and worming treatment in a kennel but not with the new owners. in a new home for 2 months now,no recent change in food

Differential diagnoses
gastroenteritis - virus / parasites / dietary indiscretion / other

Recommendation
What we talked about today:
Woody might have a gastroenteritis - an inflammation of the gastrointestinal tract. This can be caused by infectious (e.g. virus, parasites ) or non- infectious triggers (e.g. food, stress).

What you should do now:
+ feed Woody with bland diet only for the next 6-7 days, this includes boiled chicken and rice or white fish and potatoes
+ divide his meals into 6-8 small portions during the day feeding him little and often
+ you can also add Probiotics, e.g. Purina fortiflora or Prokolin paste for 5 days (you can get them online or at your vets, some pet shops sell them as well)
+ If he does not drink you can add Royal Hydration Support or Oralade
+ I would recommend getting him flea and worming treatment as it can also prevent many other problems

Things you should look out for:
+ blood in stool
+ vomiting
+ lethargy
+ lack of appetite
If you notice anything listed above please visit your vet for further investigation. If Woody doesn't improve within the next few days please book an appointment with your vet as he might need some additional treatment to help his recovery.
