Furbnow did a stage 1 survey and report for me and I was really pleased to have worked with them. While I had a rough idea, the report fully set out the best next steps for the house. The survey was thorough, professional and unobtrusive. The report was clearly laid out and easy to understand, and the pre and post calls really helpful to aid my understanding. Overall communication was great. I haven't yet been able to follow up but had planned to work with them for stage 2 as well. Highly recommended.

We had considered Retrofit insulation on our 1930s home time but were uncertain as to how to proceed, Joanne and the team at Furbnow guided us through all stages of the process and we are very pleased with the outcome of the project.

We reached out to furbnow for assistance with upgrading our heating system on the recommendation of a friend for whom they had carried out an insulation upgrade project. We wanted an independent assessment of the options available to us, knowing that our boiler (old gas combi) was on its way out. Furbnow’s home energy efficiency assessment process was thorough, professional, timely and informed by our wants and needs. Some of Furbnow’s recommendations matched our expectations (e.g. boiler replacement with either modern gas boiler or air source heat pump (ASHP)), whilst other suggestions had not been on our radar (e.g. trickle vents) but have made an immediate improvement to our home environment. By choosing to go with the ASHP option, we were excited to learn that we could potentially make our home carbon negative. Working with Furbnow through stages 1 and 2 has given us confidence that (i) we are making the right long term choices for our home; and (ii) we are using trusted suppliers who have provided competitive quotes. All of the Furbnow staff and subcontractors with whom we have interacted have been friendly and helpful.

We are very disappointed with Furbnow. We wanted to improve the insulation of our 1930ies house and they were recommended as a trustworthy company with expertise in retrofitting insulation as part of an initiative of Epsom and Ewell council. Furbnow carried out a survey and recommended various measures, including external wall insulation, which they estimated would cost £14,700. They then obtained tenders which ranged from £40,000 to £64,000. We decided to go with the tender for £40,000 and paid Furbnow to project manage and provide quality assurance. As it turned out, their project management consisted of giving me periodic phone calls "to see how it was going". Mid way through the project the builder went into administration. The first thing Furbnow said was that they would not be able to provide any guarantees, effectively negating any value of the quality assurance they supposedly provided. They said they would pick up the pieces, but they did not do anything unless I chased them and costs spiralled. The most disappointing outcome is that we chose insulating render for external wall insulation on the basis of their advice, as opposed to the more energy efficient Kingspan cladding. In the end we ended up paying as much as we would have for the cladding, but for an inferior solution.

We began this project in September 2024 with the original intention of solving a condensation problem but without really knowing where to start. I was also interested in a heat pump as our gas boiler was reaching the end of its life. We took advantage of local authority scheme engage Furbnow to assess our house and provide recommendations. The report was great and set out a viable plan for our home, including outline costs for each part of the work, and following discussion with Furbnow we proceeded to stage 2 - basically the selection of contractors. I found this particularly useful - although there were some delays between initial surveys and the commencement of work it was very reassuring to have Darren to raise matters to hurry things along. All of the firms selected did an excellent job.
We went on to engage Furbnow for stage 3 of the project - monitoring work in progress and completion. In reality we probably did not need assistance for this particularly, mainly because there were few issues arising from the work. However it did provide some reassurance that if something went wrong help was available.
Looking back on the year, Furbnow did a very good job and the project came in within budget!

Furbnow did a very comprehensive survey of my property, with detailed but easy to understand reports.
The recommendations were well laid out and prioritised. The follow on conversation with their expert really helped us with the additional questions we had, and to put a remediation plan together.
I would certainly recommend Furbnow.

They were very professional in advising upon the options without any pressure to choose what we wanted to do. They then found acceptable installers and commissioned the project. It was invaluable having experienced and independent experts by our side throughout the process

Furbnow were very organised from the start. Clear and regular communication. The survey was very thorough and so I trusted the report and suggestions. I've had similar surveys before but they focused on a narrow range of solutions, whereas Furbnow considered a wide variety of options with a clear discussion about the relative merits of each. Very much worth a go if you want to invest wisely in home energy improvements.

Great attention from the Furbnow team. We signed up after an offer through our local council to try to improve our insulation - unfortunately there was not much that could be done for our 100 year old house (at least, nothing that we really thought we would want to do). Despite that the team kept in touch and also asked us for an interview to discuss how they could improve their service in the future. Happy to recommend them.

We engaged Furbnow at the start of a huge combined retrofit and remodelling project on our victorian terrace house. After a detailed survey of our house, they helped us plan the best set of measures for our house and our budget, which was super useful, in particular as it showed us which ones were massively worth it and which ones we could skip.

In the end we made extensive plan, including interior-wall, suspended-floor and loft insulation, double glazing, a heat pump for hot water and heating, and mechanical ventilation with heat recovery. Because we were doing the retrofit alongside other building works, we chose the highest tier of coordination.

I'm super glad we did, because the project mixed retrofit with other building works, it was rather scarily complex! We couldn't have project-managed it on our own, to be honest. Our project coordinator Ian was absolutely brilliant — extremely knowledgeable, and so easy to talk to and willing to explain his plans and recommendations in as much detail as we wanted. He also cleverly adapted the plan part way through the project when our priorities changed a bit. As well as making specific recommendations for all the measures, ordering them, and coordinating deliveries, he made sure all external contractors worked well together and were where they needed to be at the right time. He even supplied training materials to our existing contracted builders so they could install the unfamiliar insulation correctly, and verified the installation was correct, saving us time and money. He definitely went above and beyond!

We've now been living in the house for a few months and are absolutely delighted with the results. Easy to keep warm in the winter and cool in the summer, and no draughts!!

For us, the primary goal was to make our new house sustainable and comfortable to live in for the next 20 years, and Furbnow have absolutely made that a reality. As well as our coordinator, Furbnow the company were really easy to contact and super responsive.

Right from the outset I have found the Furbnow team very responsive, professional and friendly as I have navigated how to approach a whole house retrofit of a c1910 semi deatched property, with period features and solid brick / no cavity walls.

The Stage 1 retrofit survey, report and the subsequent discussions with the Furbnow team provided a solid basis for a discussion about the areas most important to me to reduce energy bills and carbon emissions.

I have bought the stage 2 service to help with evaluating wall insulation options for the property. My Retrofit Coordinator has been really helpful, providing both expertise and experience in identifying suitable products and installers to meet the spec agreed with Retrofit Coordinator. Their responses to my many questions have been quick, thorough and detailed.

I feel very supported by Furbnow through this process which can seem complicated with many things to consider. Without their involvement I would not have got this far so quickly. I feel confident that in the near future I will be in a position to choose a wall insulation solution and installer and firm up on plans because of Furbnow.

So, if you are serious about a whole house retrofit approach I'd strongly recommend this service to get you moving in the right direction and support and guide you on the journey.

I approached Furbnow for project management of sustainability measures for my home. I already had a good understanding of what I wanted to achieve, but was looking for expertise and connections to reputable contractors who could deliver high-quality work.
My experience with Furbnow so far has been excellent (5/5). My project manager, Heather, has been responsive, accommodating to my schedule (especially working around my daughter's upcoming wedding), and always listens to my input. When I've had questions or concerns, she's been quick to provide additional technical information and address my concerns thoroughly.
The home energy plan was comprehensive and confirmed many of the improvements I was already considering. The real advantage of working with Furbnow is their ability to take a holistic approach to all my sustainability goals rather than me having to tackle each project piecemeal. I'm short on time and it was great to have a service that takes the burden of the project away.
My assessor gave me some useful insights about damp problems caused by guttering when he came to do the home visit.
My Furbnow coordinator has gone above and beyond negotiating with installers and dealing with snagging or delays on my behalf.

We engaged Furbnow to help us get a heat pump installed, attracted by the idea of someone else taking the strain of organising quotes and contractors. As scientists who'd already done extensive research, we knew we wanted to decarbonise our home (we already have solar panels, battery storage and EV charging), but felt a heat pump was quite a major technological leap.

The service has been professional throughout, with everyone we've dealt with being pleasant and a delight to have in our home - a welcome change from some tradespeople we've experienced in the past!

What we appreciate most is having experts who know the right contractors to call in, understand the proper sequencing of work, and can spot technical issues we might have missed despite our research. For example the ventilation improvements we wouldn't have considered.
