Spartan Solar is the way to go
All of my questions were answered initially and there was no pressure. I can contact my technician easily by phone. The install was smooth and the technicians very polite and respectful. Looking forward to years of savings on electric bills! I’m very pleased with my decision to go solar with Spartan! I don’t normally like salesman at the door, but this time I’m glad I answered! Thank you Spartan Solar.
Please be aware of this company
Please be aware of this company. they will make promises that they would follow through with. If you do decide to get their system, please beware that any damage cause by the company, it will take them longer than needed to address the issue. I've now had a huge hole in my ceiling that's been this way for two weeks. And still no call to when they are scheduled to make the repairs.
Michigan homeowner and DTE customer…
Michigan homeowner and DTE customer here. Spartan Solar/SpartanX left me feeling misled by the sales presentation and disappointed by the installation and follow-through.
Our agreement is a 25-year LightReach power purchase agreement, not panel ownership. It starts at $122.77/month, with a 16-cent/kWh solar rate increasing 2.99% annually. DTE charges remain separate.
The representative described exported solar as “crossing out” DTE usage and said we would “no longer have a DTE bill.” When my wife specifically asked about paying both companies, his explanation focused on us increasing consumption beyond solar production.
But under DTE’s Michigan inflow/outflow program, WHEN you use electricity matters. Excess daytime solar earns a lower credit than the full retail rate charged for electricity drawn later. Producing close to your annual usage does not automatically eliminate DTE charges.
We were also discouraged from adding a home battery. The representative quoted $14,000 and said, “I don’t think that’s worth it yet,” because prices were falling. The discussion centered on outage backup, and I acknowledged we had a generator. What was not made clear was storage’s separate role in everyday savings: keeping daytime solar for evening use instead of exporting it for less and buying electricity later at retail rates. A generator does not solve that mismatch.
Batteries have costs and do not automatically pay for themselves. But before steering us away from one, Spartan should have shown us TOTAL costs with and without storage based on our usage patterns.
To be fair, the paperwork DOES disclose inflow/outflow billing and two bills, and the representative briefly acknowledged a lower return for excess power. My complaint is that the spoken presentation repeatedly framed this as replacing DTE with cheaper electricity. I was also told excess power would be refunded in April at 16 cents/kWh, which does not match DTE’s current credit-bank explanation.
The roughly $77,000 in projected 25-year savings depended on assumed DTE rate increases, including 6% annually in the long-term comparison. Those are projections, not guarantees.
Installation brought more problems. Tracking showed Orlando while our home is in Michigan. Scheduling messages were confusing, and timely clarification was lacking. Cutting and drilling locations were not adequately explained, preventing me from protecting belongings.
Mortar and dust were left behind, plus black sealant on a freshly painted wall that I scrubbed myself. Attic storage panels were cut without discussion, with removed pieces and wood shavings left over my belongings. Discarded zip ties, metal, and wire were left around the property, including the backyard our dogs use daily.
Monitoring initially showed one panel producing nothing. A crew later returned without advance notice, leaving my wife, home alone, to receive two unfamiliar workers needing access inside. That should have been scheduled.
We had two project managers within weeks. Since the handoff, replies have been limited. Monitoring has shown disconnection and no production, without clear answers about why the shutoff was left off, what approvals remain, or when operation should begin. Qcells support has been more responsive than Spartan.
I understand inspections take time. That does not excuse poor communication, unannounced visits, or installation debris.
Keep copies of sales presentations, projections, and messages, as I have. I retained a transcript of our sales conversation. Michigan homeowners should insist on written TOTAL solar-plus-utility costs, with and without storage, based on their utility and usage patterns. Clarify conflicts with the contract before signing.
I am not claiming a full year of measured financial losses. I am saying the sales explanation left me with a materially different understanding of this commitment, followed by unacceptable cleanup and poor communication. I cannot recommend Spartan/SpartanX.
Horrible experience
My experience started with the "salesman" knocking on my door. He explained things to me and told me we would be great candidates because our roof is south facing and that was good for the sunlinght. So we set up an appoinment for the "engineer" to come out and talk to my husband and myself about the process.I gave the gentleman at my house a snapshot of our electric bill in which he forwarded to the "engineer" so they could assess how much energy we used and then could see how much we could save. He told us that to be a candidate we would need to see a savings of 30%-60% at least. He also told us that it would all be covered and we would have absolutely no out of pocket cost, in which my husband and I made it very clear that we would be interested as long as there was no out of pocket. He made many guarantees that we would not have any our of pocket. The "engineer" was to meet us at 5:00pm on Weds 9/2. At 5:30pm I messaged the gentleman that was there 2 days prior and asked if I go the date wrong since he was not there yet. He said no it was for Weds at 5pm, he messaged saying he would check on what is going on. A few minut4es later he got back to me saying that the engineer was running behind. I asked how long he said let me check. he then got back to me and said he was running 3 yes 3 hours behind "the people before you were older and had a lot of questions" is what I was told. I was told that we could either reschedule or do a zoom. I opted for the zoom and then was told it would be a couple of hours before he could get me the link. I told him that I could not wait that long we go to bed early because we get up at 3:30am for work. He said he would get me the link in 30min. I said fine. He then said that he needed me to email a copy of my electric bill to which I did. In the next few minutes I was then told that we were not good candidates because we use "too much power" and they would not be able to put enough panels for the power we use. I called him out and told im that is not true because we have a neighbor who has everything we do in our house including AC and a pool and they have solar panels. I asked how they could decde that without even seeing my roof and he siad they could tell by my electric bill. I told him this was all a scam and his repsonse was if its a scam why am I texting you back. I then asked what number the engineer would be calling from and now he won't answer me. I also asked why did it take me reaching out 30 minutes after my appt to find out the engineer was running late and then to find out it was 3 hours late and then after aalmost an hour of texting back and forth be told we are not candidates. Something does not add up here. I rearranged our schedule in order to make the meeting work. We flet our time was not valued and that this was a total scam.
Glad I didn’t trust non customer reviews in here.
Great experience got multiple bids and decided on spartan.. seems like any bad review on here is from people that aren’t even customers and just upset about a door to door employee doing their job.. I couldn’t do what they do. I can only imagine how many Karen’s they deal with, and to think all they did was save me money.. you must have a terrible life to be that upset about someone doing their job.
VERY VERY POOR
VERY VERY POOR, terrible installation, screwed up and unapproved twice by Twp, constant problems and no communication from the retailer.
Maryland Homeowners beware
There door to door salesman are not only unprofessional but also unable to read, since they kept ringing my door bell while I have a huge no soliciting sign at my steps. They are truly unprofessional. This took place in Perry Hall, MD
Employees go door to door harassing…
Employees go door to door harassing homeowners and don’t take no for an answer.
Ignored No soliciting signs two times in a row…
Salesmen ignored three no soliciting signs clearly posted around my house the first time. After a few days, they came back and rang the bell again. I pointed out that I have three “no soliciting” signs and told them to leave. Sorry, I cannot trust a company that refuses to respect a persons right to privacy or hires salespeople who cannot read. 🙄
Spartan solar sales person "Nate" in MD…
Spartan solar sales person "Nate" in MD was aggressive and would not take polite no's for an answer. He was pushy and even disclosed his permit to carry a gun at my door step. WOULD NOT RECOMMEND to anyone. He later called back and when I told him we weren't interested he continued to push for a reason, I mentioned that disclosing the gun permit was inappropriate and a bit threatening...he then denied ever saying it. Eastern Shore citizens beware.
Warning to homeowners in Maryland
Warning to homeowners in Maryland: A Spartan Solar door-to-door rep knocked on my door using deceptive 'no contract' pitches. When I turned him down, he verbally insulted me and called me a “P*ssy” as he walked away. Absolute trash customer service and unprofessional behavior.
I told the initial rep I was not going…
I told the initial rep I was not going to take down any trees. He took pictures of the house and passed it on. The follow-on asked the same question about the trees and I repeated my answer. The engineers had the pictures and my answer. Knowing all of this, the engineers let the rep go through the entire application process before saying I would not qualify because of the tree issue. That took almost two hours. The rep was a fine young man and represented the company admirably. However, his efforts were wasted. It wasn't my time I was concerned about, but the engineers prevented this young man to waste two hours where he could have made a sale and a commission. Shame.
Everything
Disappointed with Spartan Solar/Spartan…
Disappointed with Spartan Solar/Spartan X. Solar panels were installed over one month ago, installers cut my phone and internet line. Nails, screws and other supplies left in driveway. Zero communication from Spartan since. Breaker box scheduled to be replaced, electric meter scheduled for update or replacement; no word or updates. I have a project manager but again no communication, via, email or phone.
Communication does not exist.

A turned around experience
A turned around experience
I was initially skeptical when my in-laws signed up for what they were told was a "free" solar program thru the government. Concerned for their well-being, especially at their age, I was on the verge of leaving negative reviews and questioning the company's integrity. However, I refrained from making any impulsive decisions and sought to speak to someone in authority at the company. My apprehension was quelled when I fortuitously answered a call at my in-laws from Spartan's Project Acceptance Coordinator. The woman introduced herself by name and explained her roll in welcoming new customers to Spartan Solar, establishing an ongoing point of contact. It turned out that the individual's information that she gave me was the same person whose contact I had noted from the company's website and was the VP of Business and Customer Logistics. During this brief conversation, she was limited in detail she could provide, but the mere fact that the company makes an extra effort to personally call and welcome each new customer impressed me. The initiative in customer service made me pause and reconsider my initial reaction.
I reached out to the number that was provided and made contact with Alicia Chandler. I began voicing my concerns and she was nothing but patient and understanding. She listened attentively to my frustrations about the potential financial burden on my in-laws and addressed all my concerns thoroughly. Alicia's ability to maintain professionalism and empathy despite what I imagine to be a demanding role, was remarkable. The 33 minutes I spent on the phone with Alicia not only alleviated my concerns but also prevented me from posting hasty negative reviews. I am deeply appreciative of her dedication and the genuine care she displayed Spartan Solar not only educated my in-laws about solar energy but also ensured they were guided correctly, reflecting some of the best customer support I have ever encountered. Thank you, Alicia and Spartan Solar, for your outstanding service and for turning a potentially negative experience into a highly positive one.
It was a horrible experience
It was a horrible experience, until I connected with Alica Chandler, she helped me after a not so good experience with salesman, there is more things that need to be verified, also install of panels went well, the installation in attic, not as promised. Thanks Alicia Chandler. I will still recommend Spartan.

I contacted Spartan Solar for help with getting my panels reinstalled after my roof was done. They were extremely helpful and got to reinstallation date scheduled.
