Harney Tea Is Not As Good As It Used to Be
I had been purchasing loving tea from Harney for years but the last two one pound bags of their Earl Grey Supreme was virtually tasteless. Which was strange because the bergamot aroma was strong when opening the bag but no flavor at all after brewing.
My sister used to purchase English Breakfast from Harney - also by the pound - but she recently reported that the last batch she received from them had no flavor either.
Impossible to Get a Refund
When I order tea online, I always read the ingredients, because I have allergies. One particular tea I ordered from Harneys had different ingredients than what was written on the website. I returned the item, unopened. After 3 months of emailing this company, I have still been unable to get my.money back. The best that they can do is offer me a credit. Pathetic, considering the refund would only be $20. Harney have since changed the ingredients for the tea I purchased. This was entirely Harney's fault. I deserved a prompt refund.

I would like to review the tea, but I have not been able to get the can open for two years, and neither has anyone else I have handed it to. The lid is too wide and shallow to get a good grip, exacerbated by the lip on the top of the can. The can itself is too wide to hold firmly while trying to twist the lid off. I do not believe the company has never received this feedback before. Can sure looks pretty on the shelf, where it will sit until Andre the Giant comes to visit.
Poor customer service and review policy
My 5 star review for a black tea was immediately posted. When I tried two of their Oolong teas I found them to be of poor quality and offers two reviews - neither of which the company posted. An email pointing this out provided an unsatisfactory answer and a suggestion I return them The required return process was unbelieveably involved and not worth the trouble. I find Harney has beautiful containers, but customer service and product quality is not worthy of further orders.
Incorrect Shipment
I had purchased multiple teas as souvenir for my family before the holidays. I received an incorrect item. I was flying out of the country soon, so I couldn't receive a replacement. I was disappointed.

I have been ordering & drinking Harney & Sons teas for over twenty years. Every morning my day starts with a freshly brewed cup of one of your delightful & delicious teas! I like to vary between the different Earl Greys, Paris, English Breakfast & others. Sometimes I even add a scoop of spearmint or lavender tea to spice things up a bit.

The tea I ordered arrived when expected and it was great to receive a Veterans Day/ Marine Corps birthday discount to be able to enjoy my favorite Victorian London Fog Tea in the cool months ahead.
Great teas
Great teas! Some of the best, really. I would recommend the loose leaf tea of any kind, but I have specifically enjoyed the decaf cinnamon black tea. Great stuff!
They Have Really Gone Downhill
I bought the same large size bag of loose tea twice. The second order was because the first batch was very enjoyable. The second package of loose tea was undrinkable and bore little resemblance to the contents of the first package. I immediately contacted customer service and was sent a prepaid return label. Then I waited ... and waited. nothing from them even after tracking showed that they had received the package back. Radio silence. In the end it took me much more effort and over 6 weeks to get a refund. No apologies were given, nor was an explanation. Customer service is dreadful and quality control is even worse. They have gone very far downhill. The entire process took 5 weeks and a lot of my energy to obtain a refund out of them.
Plastic tea bag
Ordered directly from Harney and Son website. Received tea bags made of what seems to be plastic and tea is not contained. Leaks from plastic bag. String are too short and when pulled from bag tear plastic tea bag. Tea has off putting taste. Not what i have been buying for last few years. Extremely disappointing. Return/refund policy is terrible. Will only refund 50% and eant return and send more lousy tea in return. No thank you. Plastic tea bags...wtf.

Where's the cinnamon gone?
I usually buy the tins of hot cinnamon sachets -- which make a delicious spicy brew-- but they were out of stock at our local supermarkets. I bought two boxes of the tea bags by mail order from Harkneys. Just made a cup. Tasteless. No cinnamon flavor. In fact no flavor at all.

Not Just a Service Failure — A Betrayal of the Customer
I’ve been a loyal Harney & Sons customer for years. But a not-so-recent website “upgrade” locked me out of my wishlist, order history, and profile — and even the promoted Master Blending Contest form was broken.
I contacted the several times. No response.
It’s not just the technical failures — it’s the silence. A company I’ve supported with time, money, and word-of-mouth through reviews in various tea magazines and tea expos couldn’t even acknowledge me. If I hadn’t been a long-time customer, I might’ve left two stars. But the disregard and inaction is worse than neglect — it’s betrayal.
There are too many other mid-tier tea houses out there to stick with one that has no regard for their customers. Silence will be returned with silence.
I accidently ordered the wrong tea
I accidently ordered the wrong tea. Within minutes of placing the order I contacted them and asked if they could switch it. They said 'no, but they could try to cancel the order if they could find it'. When I got the ready to ship email, I contacted them and said this was to be cancelled. They let me know they couldn't find the order in time. Approximately 10 emails back and forth, they indicated I could refuse the package (that will be placed in my mailbox) and they would refund me. I don't trust that they would refund me when they have a computer system and should have been able to cancel the order.
I have purchased a lot before. I doubt I will in the future unless they make this right.

They have lost it on customer service and delivery. I have been a customer for 20 years and recommended their products to multiple people who have become customers. Sorry Harney, a good family owned company gone bad.

I truly hope people read the one star reviews rather than just looking at the overall rating. When people write reviews about not being compensated for their own mistakes, not getting tracking details when the USPS doesn't provide them on the inexpensive shipping, that they will not send a courier to your home to get the return after you ordered the wrong tea, and other ridiculously entitled reviews, it says more about those people than the business. A small number of lunatics can have a significant impact on small businesses, and that just stinks. Always read the negative reviews before assuming a low rating is warranted
I got their Orange Mango drink
I got their Orange Mango drink. It was watery and loaded with added sugars. I didn't see any significant nutritional value. Quite frankly, because of the company's reputation I didn't bother really look at the contents.
Lost a loyal customer--poor customer service.
Love their teas, but they lost me as a customer.
I have been a loyal customer for years, purchasing tea from them every few months. I made a mistake last year and accidentally purchased a caffeinated version of a tea I drink often (I can only drink decaf). I reached out to them about exchanging for the decaf version. They agreed but indicated I would have to pay for the return shipping. A few days later, I received an email stating they have my return but unfortunately the tea I ordered does not come in a decaf version in the size I purchased, so they would have to refund me instead. So frustrating! I would not have paid $10 to ship the item back had I known this. I essentially paid $10 for them to restock their product and received nothing in return. I reached out about this several times, and they never responded.
It's been a year since this happened and I haven't purchased from them since. I miss the tea, but I am not giving them any more money after this experience.
