Great courses for freelance proofreaders BUT be aware
Update: Make sure to read the response from Knowadays so you understand the offer with Proofed completely.
Although this is a great course, please do NOT take it solely for the claim of guaranteed work at Proofed. There is no work to be had once you pass your trial period. I have been on the editor portal and slack channel at Proofed for an entire month, auto-refreshing the page every 10 seconds, 6 hours a day, and have managed to get one document. It is absolutely disappointing. If you are truly ready to freelance on your own, this is a good primer in proofreading and editing. Otherwise, you might want to consider a course that has more information about working on your own and starting a business.

Overall, I enjoyed both the courses that I took with Knowadays. I am well-prepared with the knowledge and resources necessary for a freelance proofreader. So much great advice!
The editing course was also quite good, but it did not prepare me very well for the final. It required skills I needed to gain since I have little experience with the type of writing I was tested on. That was disappointing, but I still learned many skills applicable to a freelance career.
In the end, I paid to retake the final for the editing course. The second version of the final was much closer to what was taught in the course, so I did quite well!
The tutor support team was so responsive and so helpful!

Regarding your update on your experience of our work guarantee, congratulations on passing your trial period, but we’re sorry to hear it hasn’t been what you expected beyond that. As we explain on our website and in our marketing materials, our partnership with Proofed offers Knowadays’ distinction graduates the opportunity to access immediate paid work with a 10-document trial at Proofed. This is the only offer of its kind in the industry, and we know it has numerous positive outcomes. It allows graduates to offset the cost of the course right away, develop their confidence, and start gaining work experience right after completing training. This helps new freelancers to showcase their skills to other prospective clients, whether they continue on the Proofed platform or not.
After completing the 10-document trial period, new editors are able to widen the span of work they can access with Proofed, remaining on the platform indefinitely if they so choose.
The nature of this type of freelancing means that it is not going to be a full-time job right away! The amount of work available at any given time depends on how many documents have been submitted by customers and if special project teams are in need of new editors – there are busy patches and quiet patches, just like in many other businesses. One of the great things about working as a freelancer is the freedom to come and go, weave together multiple streams of income, and incorporate variety into your working life. You can build up your hours and increase your workload, either with Proofed alone or by adding on other sources of freelance work, but it does take time.
If you’ve been struggling to accept the amount of work you want, have you tried reaching out to the editor support team at Proofed? They are there to help new editors on the platform, whether it’s by answering technical queries or offering advice on other avenues within Proofed, such as new business clients. Also, have you been able to explore the Slack channels? The Proofed team set these up to notify editors of documents in the queue and new opportunities as they arise.
If you haven’t yet reached out to Proofed directly, we strongly encourage you to do so.

If I could give more than five stars to Knowadays, I would. The course is brilliant. So informative, with easy to follow modules, quizzes and blogs.
If you have any problems you can just email the tutors and they will get back to you with very detailed answers. If you are still struggling, they will stay in contact until you are happy.
If you pass the assignment, you are offered the chance to work with their parent company, Proofed.
If you do not get the required grade, you can arrange a meeting via the internet with one of the wonderful tutors where they will go over everything with you in detail.
All in all, I would recommend this course to any budding proofreaders.

Great experience
For a virtual self-paced learning experience, I felt surprisingly well-supported by the program. There is always an opportunity to reach out to someone if the content doesn't make sense or if you have a specific question to run by an expert. A must for any proofreader
A must for anyone who wants to become a professional proofreader. What is great is that you can do the course at your own pace and redo certain modules whenever needed. There is a lot of information provided and the support team are always very quick to respond and very friendly to deal with.

An excellent course : valuable and stimulating.
An excellent course. Course content was structured very well, with easy-to-follow chapters, well-placed video exposition on key features and regularly-placed quizzes to test ongoing understanding. Also excellent guides and printouts for reference, including invaluable checklists. The preparation and lead-in to the final assignment was well-crafted and subsequent feedback (particularly the 1-to-1 online session with the professional who had marked my assignment) really maximised the opportunities to do well and to identify areas for improvement. All in all, a thoroughly enjoyable and valuable experience.

A stellar course!
The Knowadays course “Becoming a Proofreader” was well worth my investment in time and money. What distinguishes this course from other proofreading courses I’ve taken in the past is the broad-based foundation it provides. Knowadays offers training across three types of writing—academic, creative, and business. I also appreciated the instruction in spelling conventions of the various dialects of English—UK, US, and Australian. So I am now comfortable offering my editing services to a global audience. I highly recommend this excellent course
The Knowadays Becoming a Proofreader course goes into great detail and lets you work at your own pace. There are also plenty of end-of-module quizzes and practice exercises to test your skills. Now that I have completed the course I feel confident in my abilities as a proofreader and can access the course notes at any time if I need to refer back to anything.
