Wildly inconsistent customer service

First, the car I rented was fine, I didn't like it but it served it's purpose, was clean, and didn't breakdown. That's really what you pay for.
My issue is the wildly inconsistent customer service which is mostly only accessible using the chat feature of the app though one agent did call when I requested them to. And that's the reason it has two stars rather than one. Some agents were actually very considerate, attentive, responsive, empathetic, and knowledgeable. They were rare. Most made the chat feature time out while I waited for a response.
Just now, I was finally able to get an agent that provided a receipt but it took 3 attempts over 5 days to get an agent who actually could take care of a simple task, and did so in less than a minute. So simple yet it was so hard and why wasn't the receipt generated and sent automatically? Why couldn't I get it directly via the app without going through customer support?
Both the "surfers" were great, good representatives but both said that they had to deal with customers complaining about the customer service agents.

It is not a good idea to rent with them

They work only with chat and email, but they work terribly with telemarketers and surfers who do not have direct communication with managers. They charged me a $25.00 deposit when they had my flight number and it was late and I could not pick it up before they closed. They gave it to me with 7/8. I returned it with 7/8 and they charged me 1/8 the cheeky guys.
I don't recommend it, they don't have good communication.

The WILL leave you stranded

My experience with Kyte. They gave me a rental car that broke down and when we looked under the hood it has barely any brake fluid in the reservoir and it was low on coolant. The ABS Light, Brake Light, A! Light, and Check Engine Light all went on. They left us stranded in Grand Junction, CO and their overseas representatives from the Philippines kept telling me that I needed to get back to Denver to get another car. That was impossible. They never offered roadside assistance and when it’s the car that breaks down and their issue not maintaining the vehicle they are supposed to offer that. We wound up having to rent a car from Avis and spent $897 for 5 days because it was a one-way rental. Kyte still did nothing to help us. They offered to refund our original rental (we’re still waiting for that) and they offered only $150 Kyte Credits. Our original rental with them was around $460 and we still have yet to be refunded for the original amount of our rental. They offered us nothing in return and we were far beyond patient with them. We still paid for the Avis rental out of our pocket which was $460 more than our rental with them and for 2 days less. So, don’t expect help from them if a breakdown occurs they won’t help you. In our case, the Attorney General in Colorado will be getting a report from us as will the Federal Trade Commission. What they do to people is unreal.

Too many wrongs and feeble effort to make it right

1. they gave us the wrong key and we had to wait over an hour to get the right one, 2. the car wreaked of tobacco and cheap cologne, 3. they refused to help us get another car (via chat support), 4. when I reached out to email support for help, the chat history was deleted. We gave them several opportunities to make things right, and their only response was a $40 credit toward a future rental. I will not use them again -- I do not recommend Kyte.

Would Not recommend it!

Although the rental went really smooth,I was charged afterwards for a 100$ cleaning fee due to "fur/pet hair" ,which is a complete scam/fraud!No pets/animals,fur coats were in the car.Customer service didn't reply via chat appropriate,still no refund for this.Would not recommend it.

Brutal Experience

Brutal experience. Company to be avoided until they get their act together. Booked a car 6 weeks in advance for my family including a 5 year old, 2 weeks before car pickup get a text that we must validate drivers license. Already on the road, no computer or smart phone, just flip phone. No way to verify, finally get to a computer for mandatory web cam drivers license picture as well as 3 mandatory personal close up pics of my face. Site starts taking pics on its own and so fast that blurs images. Within 20 seconds notified that our booking is cancelled with no explanation or chance to reshoot pics. Customer support says no power to change it as a 3rd Party verification company is involved. Absolute Insanity. Had to book new car with Thrifty Rental last minute for 150.00 More or would have been walking.....Company is Off the Rails.

Don't trust these clowns

Thankfully I canceled before even getting started. These guys are a joke. I tried to add a 2nd driver to my reservation and they repeatedly asked for information they already had. "You have that," I said. "Oh, yes, I see that we do." OK, then. "We need this now." "You have that." And so on, and so on... I don't trust these clowns as far as I can throw them.

If 0 stars were possible. My husband rented a car from Kyte. I ended up in the emergency room during the afternoon that he was supposed to return the car, so he could not make it back on time to return the car. He called the Kyte Runner (guy who he was supposed to meet, told him about the emergency, and the guy said that he would check on this for him. My husband also tried over 13 times to reach customer service (the only way that you can reach customer service is through an online chat) and he kept getting disconnected, and then received a message that Customer Service was down. So, we had to keep the car one extra day. We attempted to reach customer service during the chat the very next day, reached no one. Then received two threatening emails from Kyte about us not having returned the car??? We sent multiple emails begging to speak with a live person. They emailed back saying that the telephone number was only for emergencies of accidents or stalled cars...only. We kept sending emails, and finally received the emergency phone number, we called spoke to a real person who said we would be charged almost $185 dollars for the extra day that we had the car because I was in the emergency department, and we couldn't return the car at 4:30. So, we agree to pay this ridiculous $185.00, then my husband goes to meet and return the car to the Kyte Runner that we finally were able to actually speak to. And, 5 days later, they just sent us another threatening letter to return the car that we returned to them FIVE DAYS AGO!!! Now, we have to email this company that lacks morals of any kind, and send them the emails that they sent of meeting my husband to for the return of the vehicle that again took place FIVE DAYS AGO! DO NOT RENT A CAR FROM THIS RIDICULOUS CAR FLYER OF A POOR PRODUCT, NOT AN ACTUAL COMPANY.

Very poor communication / unreliable service

Very poor communication. The pickup and drop off staff are unreliable and late. They charge a premium for this service but definitely do not have it down.

Customer service is very hard to get in touch with, and they are not interested in resolving their mistakes and shortcomings.

Would NOT recommend based on my experience.

Don't use this company if you need reliable customer service

My Lyft was stuck in traffic so I was going to be 20mins late for my pickup. I notified customer services on the app and had no response. Then the "surfer" called me and said he would leave but another car would come. After waiting 30mins, still no update on the app, I managed to call a human. They said I would have to wait 2hours for another car. I was picking up from a train station not my home. And they charged me another $25. I had to cancel all my plans today. The app and customer services is terrible.

Troublesome w/ fees & deposits

Every refund for fees and deposit I've had to fight for and nearly a month later I'm still waiting on my $300 deposit. App chat easily disconnects and uber credit didn't even work. Everything that could go wrong did. And every response from customer service they repeat what they said before kyte is a joke. Worst customer service imaginable. And the cars have shabby tires; no wonder I got a flat

We had a 4 month rental and had to…

We had a 4 month rental and had to return home 20 days early. They gave us Kyte credit for $641.79, which will do us absolutely no good since they are only in several cities and we won't be traveling to any of the cities they are in. We should have just let the car set so they didn't have the 20 extra days to rent it. I will never recommend this rental company to anyone.

Terrible. A complete clown show.

Terrible. First of all, in San Francisco, their “airport drop off” is actually about 5 miles from the airport, and you have to take a $10 subway ride to get there. There is no way that they should be represented as an Airport drop off. Because getting to the drop off location took more time than I expected, I was charged the $25 late fee. But then it gets worse. When I returned the car, I subsequently found my credit card had been charged, not once, but twice for incorrect charges. First I was charged a fueling charge even though I refueled less than 1 mile from the drop off spot and the tank was completely full. Next, I got charged a cleaning fee based on an allegation that I returned the car extremely dirty including vomit. Other than road dirt on the outside, the car was exactly in the same condition when I returned it as when I picked it up. After approximately 10 phone calls and emails, they reversed the charges and offered me a $50 credit. As I have no plan to ever rent from them again, the credit is completely meaningless. While their prices are attractive, this organization clearly does not have its act together. Rent elsewhere.

First experience - unfortunately not smooth

I was really hoping my first Kyte experience would be smooth. It was anything but, mainly with my pickup experience. Had the wrong car waiting for me and my family (with lots of baggage) - ordered an SUV, had a sports car waiting for me - and had to wait 1 1/2 hrs for the SUV to finally arrive.
I waited 30 minutes for drop off.
Getting a hold of customer service was a haggle too, just took forever.
Overall, it seems like Kyte needs more hands on deck (i.e. employees) if they want to continue being in business and improve their ratings / return customers….

Avoid Kyte at LAX

Taveling from Europe to LAX
Was told to get black Uber to reach Kyte location a few miles away using provided vouchers.
Seemed like a good idea, only to have my card charged by Uber disregarding any voucher. Talked to customer service who refused to refund the Uber fee as the address on file with Uber was not the exact address of the kyte parking lot! The Uber driver couldn't find it and dropped us at the end of the lot! For his excuse it was raining and night time and it was our first experience with Kyte.
Then on the way back again Uber did not take in consideration our voucher and charged us for the trip from kyte to LAX. A few days later when i figured it out I contact again customer service to see why voucher not taken by Uber. Then I am offered a $20 refund when the Uber did cost us around $75! Kyte required that we call Uber black and then their voucher would cover only $20
I was led to believe that the vouchers would cover the round trip between LAX and Kyte's location since they would not deliver the car to the airport!
I still give a 2 stars as customer service is responsive even so I think that the business model for airport rental is flawed! As a result I canceled my reservation for next month as I will be back in LA...

A good service but room for improvement.

We used Kyte for a 3 week holiday touring around California and Nevada. We flew into San Francisco. Unfortunately, Kyte doesn’t deliver directly to the airport but do arrange to drop off at a BART station a few stops away. The price was much better than traditional car hire companies; however, this is reflected in the car. We ordered a saloon and were given a Nissan Altima. The standard messaging from Kyte says that the delivery driver (the surfer) cleans and sanitises the car before delivery. The bodywork of the car was clean but the interior was quite dirty. I had to buy glass cleaner for the inside of the windscreen as it was filthy and I couldn’t see for the glare in bright sunshine. All wheels had been curbed and there was some minor bodywork damage on the car too, although this wasn’t surprising given the mileage of the car which was 28k, by far the highest I have ever had in a hire car. That said, the car did not miss a beat in the 3 weeks I had it (we covered over 3k miles). The pickup surfer was on time at the same spot at the BART station at the end of the hire period. Communication via the app was always responsive; I only ever had to wait a few minutes for answers to any questions. Kyte offers to refuel the car at the end ‘at current market prices’. We decided to take them up on this offer; however, a text from them just before we dropped the car off said they would refuel at $6.80 per gallon as this was the average price for fuel in San Francisco at the time. This just wasn’t true as we had paid no more than $5.80 per gallon at the time. Only resulted in a few dollars difference so we weren’t too upset about that. I would use Kyte again despite these niggles but if a ‘traditional’ hire company was only a few dollars more, I’d probably use them as I know I’d get a newer, cleaner car that I’d be able to pick up at the airport.

Very user friendly and nicely priced

Our rental car was delivered and picked up just where we wanted. In the middle of Manhattan. No hassle. One could see the progress of the ‘delivery guy’ and the chat, when I didn’t see the car/delivery person at once, helped me out straight away.
Great value for money!!
