Not really liking Laurus so far
So far I'm questioning whether or not Laurus was a good choice. The staff has been friendly but the parking lot is a mess. Parents cut the wrong way through the parking lot,so they don't have to go all the way around. This could easily cause an accident because they bogard their way through. Also parents don't know how to take turns when the two lanes become one. I hate that they don't wants parents in the building at all. That is creepy to me. Drop them off, can't come in. Pick them up,can't come in. I've NEVER heard of a school using this practice. My daughter is in kindergarten and doesn't know her way around, so is she supposed to wander aimlessly. She doesn't even want to go to breakfast before school now because she doesn't know where to go.Then school tells you what you can and can't bring for a snack. Absolutely absurd!
Very unhappy will be leaving in the fall
My children have attended this school for 4 years now and I have seen a steady decline. The office staff is very rude and disrespectful. The deans put the parents and teachers against each other. There should never be a time that a parent has a conversation with a Dean and they twist the parents words then relay a false message to the teacher. Some of the teachers are not conducive to the overall learning enviorment. We have a lot of new teachers this year and some of them come of very arrogant and rude. One teacher should never down a previous teacher it's just unprofessional. I also do not like the fact that the principal hand picks his parent group. I believe any parent who wants to sit on the parent board should be allowed to at least it should be voted on. The decision should not just rest on the principal alone. The parents as a whole HATE the parking lot. They have implemented this new thing where we have to pay for the school performances just to attend I don't like that at all. My child Was recently hurt at the school and I am concerned about why we do not have a Nurse on staff. Most of the other schools in the immediate area have in house nurse's why don't we? The lunches that are served a lot of times the milk is spoiled and it's just not of good quality for humans. I have seen children fall threw the cracks academically at this school. Than when the issue is presented to the staff the blame game starts and it takes a lot of work from the parent to get the teachers on board to rectify the situation at hand.I can't think of one good thing to say about the school at all this year and that is
Truely sad.

My daughter had a great experience at Laurus.
My daughter was a student at Laurus from K-3, we moved closer to my job and Laurus is the last thing that I wanted to change. The curriculum and learning style is great. The only complaint I have is the parking lot, but that's the fault of the city and not the school. Hopefully they will get two exits.
Laurus Academy hasreally helped my child.
I really like the fact that they have IPE learning, and the instructors are very friendly and helpful and keep us informed on Williams progress.
Great school... Not enough communication
I love the family atmosphere at Laurus. I feel safe having my son in their care. The only thing i don't like is the lack of communication. My sons teacher quit and I didn't receive any communication from the school. The Winter concert is today and I received no communication. Children cannot be trusted to tell parents this information and I would have appreciated some type of come from the school.
Laurus Academy
The teachers that my child works with on the daily basis are great! My daughter is becoming a stronger reader and a super math wiz. I am very pleased.
Laurus Academy's Excellence
This charter school exemplifies the curriculum and moral compass other institutions should implement.
Laurus Academy review
First off, I don't like the new parking lot. It creates too much confusion and chaos especially in the bad weather, icy conditions. Secondly, the high turnover of teachers. What is the problem?? The teachers seem to be overworked and underpaid. Thirdly, it's supposed to be a no tolerance school atmosphere however, they still allow children who are bullies to continue to attend school. I think if these issues aren't addressed, my child will be attending a public school in the fall.
My children have been going to NHA since kindergarten and I am well pleased with the staff very pleased.
Only way you can experience the proper tools of exceeding excellent teaching for your child's education is to get " involved " with your student here at Laurus Academy well done staff.
Awesome school
This school really services the individual needs of their students! I love it.
Great school
The only problem is dropping off and picking up is a timely process.
Great school with dedicated teachers
Laurus is a great school that strives to produce college bound scholars. Each year is an opportunity for a child to expand and grow. The leadership is continues to innovate to produce successful outcomes.
Good school academically
My middle child have attended this school since 2nd grade and now is in the 8th grade, and my youngest has been there since kindergarten and now in the 3rd grade The school has challenged both children academically in their classes, which helped improve their overall grade.Over the years Some of the teachers/ school staff has become ghetto and rude, and a few events has been unorganized. My 3rd grader will not be attending Laurus next school year due to moving out of state, but if we were not moving I would still reconsider a different school.
Needs some improvement
Out of all of the years my children have attended Laurus they seem to struggle with an efficient way of communicating with the parents.First we would have to rely on the school sending notes home with the kids but there was no guarantee that you would actually receive the notice. Then they moved to an automated phone calling system that calls at the most random and odd times of the day. This method is good to communicate emergency information but not everyday events. Especially when you have to listen to 5 to 10 messages. How are the parents supposed to remember all these verbal communications???? Stop what they are doing to write down each one???? My other issue is the lack of tutoring and academic support for students who may need help but are not in dire straights. My daughter who is in 2rd grade is struggleing with certain concepts in math and wanted tutoring. When I called the office no one seemed to be able to provide me any real information as to if they offered tutoring they either put it back on the teachers to do individually are they didn't know. I was told on 2 occasions by office staff someone would call me back about this and that was several weeks ago. I have not heard from anyone. I also wish they offered a better variety of co-curricular activities. They had football but as of this year they do not. They also had track but again as of this year they no longer have track. They offer basketball. They also offer volleyball for the girls and cheerleading but not much else in the way of sports or clubs. When my son first started there we were told they were working on some type of leggo or robotics club but that never came to fruition. The school is not a horrible place but they could use some improvement. There are some great teachers and administrative staff.
The other downside is the new parking setup. It is awful and takes forever to drive through the maze of their parking lot. I'm not sure who thought up the design but it does not appear to be well thought out. In addition to this there is a high turnover rate with the teachers which is in no way good for the students. It seems each year the quality of the school declines. My son is in 8th grade and will graduate this year but I am looking for another school for my daughter for the upcoming school year.
Love the school
My children have been there since the first grade and they have always put my kids first academically...they have worked with me with both children and made it a little easier because my son has A.D.H.D...I would like more after school or during school tutoring like they use to have it would help a lot of kids greatly....The traffic when dropping off your kid is great...different but I got the hang of it and now I'm in and out
Should be a public school
The first year my child was there it was wonderful last year the quality was failing but parents were asssured that it would improve..this is her 810th grade year and it has been horrible from the high staff turnover in the middle of a semester to the terrible terrible parking lot system in place...if my daughter was not in the 810th grade I would transfer her immediately..

Laurus Academy is a good environment for students to learn!
Laurus Academy does a good job preparing students for high school and college. Students are well behaved. Teachers and administration respond to concerns in a timely manner. The academy does a good job at communicating with parents through various ways especially through technology i.e. Text / voice messages and email. Grades are posted so parents can view anytime. I love that they are required to keep a book to read and do a project. The only down side is I wish they had a bigger building with a cafeteria and gym but the staff and students make it work. I'm glad we made the choice to send our 8th grade son to Laurus.
Laurus
My daughter is in the 1st grade, her teacher and most of the staff is amazing! I just wish they had regular art classes and after school activities. The drop off and dismissal is horrible.
The best place for my son.
We are new to the area. Our old school district was in turmoil & it showed in my son's educational development. I have seen aworld of change in him since placing him at Laurus. The staff has made such a difference. When they retested him for his I.E.P., they did more in depth testing & discovered that he doesn't have a learning disability, which was determined by his old district. Yes he has A.D.H.D., but come to find out he's a divergent thinker. It's refreshing to know that he's somewhere that isn't so quick to pigeon hole him. I can't begin to tell you how much this has helped. He's starting to see that he's smart. There's nothing more heartbreaking to learn that your child sees their reflection as being less than what they are. Laurus is changing that view. I can't say enough good things about them!
