Great customer service
Two small problems recently with tools purchased from dealers in Germany and the UK. Lee Valley replaced both directly from Canada, thank you, great service.
Lee Valley is exceptional.
Lee Valley provides an exceptional online experience (I live in the Caribbean), very good packaging, rapid delivery, and a tremendous range of woodworking hand tools (including the superb Veritas line) -- probably unsurpassed. Their customer service is second to none. Other companies would do well to look to their standards. I recommended them highly.
We waited 5 days for an online order…
We waited 5 days for an online order (Birthday present,) and it still has not been shipped. Customer service is closed on weekends unless you count Bot responses to prearranged questions. Shipping is closed on weekends. Only the shipper knows how to ship an order. Have to make a third call on Monday to see if anyone has bothered to ship the order. If this is normal then I won't be ordering anything from L.V. online again. We won't be making a 400km round trip for this order that would easily slip into an envelope. Very disappointed.
Called L.V. on Monday afternoon. Order still has not been shipped despite receiving assurance from "Emily" from Internet Customer Service that it would expedited via U.P.S. Express. Not sure what I takes to get something shipped from these people.
TERRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE
.I went in to buy more Rubber gloves and went up to the counter and STEVE looked after me. I told him I wasn’t sure of the size but it had an 8 on the gloves. I asked him if he could look on my chart and he said I wasn’t in there. I said well I bought them here. He never smiled and was quite miserable. He eventually got 2 pair from the back and opened them to find that the medium ones were #8.
Terrible CUSTOMER SERVICE….I Hope next time I’m in there I don’t get him👎🏿

I have made several orders and they were as advertised and on time. The last order I was told it would be 3 months on backorder. I received it today only a week after placing the order. It was great surprise.
Always prompt on shipping
Love this company always prompt to shipping out items. Always deliver high quality items in excellent packaging. Ding a star for not having a system in place to update you automatically if a back order item changes date of availability and the above average cost of shopping there but the quality is worth it. They will always have my business for products they carry.

Good morning everyone. After an ordeal that lasted from August 2022 to today, I feel like sharing my terrible experience with this company. I placed an order for $5,000 and only received little clarity from them, constant referrals, vague answers and unbelievable justifications, which forced me, after all these months, to have to cancel the whole order.
I wasted my time with them and I won't do it again.
Trust me, my experience was really bad. For a simple purchase of a few planes, I've seen incredible behavior. They made me want to buy from them. I am waiting for the refund and I will also update you on this aspect, because it is right that this very bad experience of mine does not go unnoticed.
It's fitting that Lee Valley gets my review too. Because a little more seriousness and attention on their part would have been enough and they would have satisfied a customer.
I really felt like I was being teased. Generic, circumstantial, unclear answers, in which we deliberately do not talk about what is important to fix a situation. Practically useless emails. And meanwhile I waited and waited confidently. Trust that after all this time it's gone.

The hinges I ordered online were missing a packet of screws. I called and spoke with a delightful person. The screws arrived within 4 days!
Did not ask for advertisement (but they will mail anyway
Having placed an online order, I now constantly receive personalized advertisement from them. ‘Personalized’ meaning they print all billing details you gave them right on the advertisement that is NAME, ADDRESS, SPECIAL DELIVERY INSTRUCTIONS. I did not sign up for this.
So, give them your name and address online just once and they will celebrate your purchase mailing you some glossy paper you did not ask for.
OH yeah, there is no specific place on their website where you can ask them to stop sending you personalized junk.
I recently purchased a sliding door…
I recently purchased a sliding door kit. Went to pick it up at the store. It was not until I got home that I noticed that there was a part that was missing. I called the store and asked if they could ship the missing part (since I live far away). They agreed. I received the part less that 24 hours later. While I did not need the parts that quickly, it was a pleasant surprise to get such service. Other than that Lee Valley is my go to for many of their products, which I find to be of high quality and very good value.
Called to ask about a particular items…
Called Burlington location to ask about a particular items feature that was missing in their ad copy. Was told by woman who answered the phone that's all the information they have. Huh?! you mean you don't know and should have redirected me to someone who was more knowledgeable? You need training this isn't about what you know but how you triage the call. Fail...
Have never been disappointed
Purchased all sorts of stuff for years and years. Have never been disappointed. Not worth buying something cheaper from anywhere else because the quality of Lee Valley is the best. Very highly recommended.
Decent store? Not anymore.
I've been a Lee Valley customer for a few years now, and liked the gadgets and tools, many of which I don't see anywhere else. The catalogues entertained me. There were a couple things I bought that underwhelmed me: a flimsy compost cage and an indoor plant grow box. I didn't realize how useless the cage was and I had to build a frame around it. As for the plant grow box, my seedlings seemed to be reaching for the lights, so I don't think the box I bought came with enough lighting. I bought extra lights.
Once I was in the store on the west side of Edmonton and a clerk was a little rude to me. I get that they have a queue, but all I wanted was to ask a simple question, not cut in line and buy something.
However, those were minor annoyances that I was willing to overlook. In the last year or so, when I noticed on their website that they insisted that employees and customers wear three-layer masks, I was disgusted. You're retail clerks and managers, not licensed medical professionals. Masks are medical devices; you have no business practising medicine on your employees and customers. Also, none of those people are performing open heart surgery (which is what masks are supposed to be for, not viruses).
I hope you get out of the business of medicine and go back to selling tools, but I won't be back. Learn the scientific method *before* you force your medical ideas on people (in violation of the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms). I mostly only shop online, so this nonsense doesn't affect me directly, but I don't want to give you any more of my money. There's nothing I want at Lee Valley that I can't find somewhere else.

Warning: I bought the rechargeable hand warmers (Product 45K4219). They are NOT particularly "slim and comfortable" inside gloves, and the charge only lasts less than 2 hours...
Also bought the popcorn popper (Item ET252) and cannot recommend it. It is bulky, expensive and a paper bag does just as good a job in the microwave.

Years ago, I purchased a high end, manual miter saw, the Nobex 180. Recently, one of the clamps, a $7 item, it turns out, failed.
I contacted Lee Valley, which quickly arranged for the replacement part.
Over the years I've done business with many vendors who wouldn't have bothered making arrangements for a special order, $7 replacement parts.
Be very careful about poor quality of some products.

It's too bad that the company went from a premier supplier to 'let's just make money'.
And it explains why there isn't an option for product reviews on the site.
Most questions emailed to the the company aren't answered, and no questions regarding customer feedback are answered.
No doubt more money is being earned, but buyer beware!

CS went out of their way to help me order a broken part
In a recent move, the clamp for the head of my magnifying lamp was broken. Just the clamp. I'm not even sure I purchased the lamp at Lee Valley, but they sell a similar lamp. When I requested a new clamp, they contacted the manufacturer and I was able to purchase the part for $5, plus shipping. The part arrived in due course, it fits perfectly and now the $85 lamp is fixed! Very happy. Thank you Lee Valley.
