I've always been skittish about contracting projects with services like this because it feels like a roll of the dice, so we miss out on the potential benefits of leveraging contract workers. I gave lemon.io a go and so far have been blown away. It is exactly what I would hope for and mitigates every downside of platforms like Upwork, as far as I can tell. I had been struggling with a hire for months trying various recruiters, HN hiring posts, etc, but something about the pre-vetting magic lemon does resulted in an excellent recommendation for my position for a senior backend engineer (rare as hen's teeth) and I quickly filled the position with an excellent engineer.
