Save Yourself- Go Elsewhere

I have completed the coursework for the Liberty University's Doctorate of Strategic Leadership program and am 8 months into my dissertation. To be clear, DO NOT ENROLL IN THIS PROGRAM. I was lured in by the great military and public safety discount, and the coursework was interesting and worthwhile, but the dissertation process is a complete mess. So few students were able to finish the broken program that they completely reworked it immediately before me. However, it is still broken beyond repair. I have two other doctorates; one is from the Liberty University School of Government, and I have never seen anything in academia as dysfunctional as their dissertation process. It started with them completely changing the topic that I wanted to do my dissertation on, and ignored my appeal to do something that would be valuable to my military organization. Then, I was assigned a dissertation lead without my input and told I could not change him (however, he is the only rational faculty member I've come into contact with in this process). Then they assign a "research methodologist" who does whatever she wants in contrast to published dissertation guidelines, they clearly have a policy of making students rewrite every submission a minimum of 4 times, just because, and this is after another faculty member has already approved it. To add insult to injury, this methodologist sends back written work products for re-writing and provides feedback in grammatically incorrect sentences and broken English. I appealed thrice to the Dean of the Business school, who just stamped it "denied" without any consideration, follow-up, or feedback. There is no way out of this mess of a program—total amateur hour. Go through ANY OTHER program and you'll be a lot happier.

Cleary act violation

In March 2024, Liberty University was fined $14 million by the U.S. Department of Education for failing to report crimes on campus, including sexual assaults, in violation of federal law. The fine is the largest ever levied under the Clery Act. The Department of Education also said that Liberty University created a "culture of silence" around sexual assault, failed to support victims, and did not properly report them. However, the Department of Education also noted that Liberty's administration acknowledged the violations and showed a commitment to fixing them.

They do not support military students properly

I am a doctoral student with Liberty and choose them amongst others because I was told they had such a great military rate and benefits. This is the end of my first class and I am completely disappointed in the service offered by the school. No one returns calls and they are rude on chat and email. I did not get the military rate and I’m active duty but when asked about it I continued to get the run around and now I am stuck not being able to begin my next class because of this. I do not recommend for service members because it is false information being spread bout how much of a “military school” they are, this has been all bad.

Working with Liberty University…

Working with Liberty University students has been such a great experience. They are so compassionate and have a global vision for the world. I love their passion for people and their knowledge regarding the field of teaching.

In the aviation program

In the aviation program, the classes set deadlines that often cannot be met because of external forces (weather, plane and instructor availability). They offer no extended deadline date. They expect students to pay for the entire class again even if they one need an additional week. It is ridiculous and makes zero sense. Students are being punished because they cannot control the weather. We are extremely disappointed. We wanted our son to attend Liberty because it was a Christian University. We feel completely betrayed because their business practices are anything but Christian. They are deliberately ripping people off to make more money. Our one solace is that they will be held accountable for this greed and treachery one day.

I just enrolled my 10th and 8th graders…

I am giving 3 stars because not experienced all about the school yet.I just enrolled my 10th and 8th graders in the online academy. As a Christian school it’s very important to maintain or preserve the legacy so all support is needed . One problem I think needs worked on is the structure of the online academy. My 10th grader sits hours after normal online school period doing assignments. Assignments after each course takes so long after the quizzes too that he barely gets any sleep. We are just a month into the program and if this is the way it will go we may just drop it all together. Tried reaching out but support seems not to have much help to give. My 10th grader take 7 courses per day and therefore 6 quizzes, almost 6 lesson reviews per subject, and assignments daily. All these within a day . Daily from Monday to Friday. He sits for about 10 hrs doing school work.He barely gets enough time to complete his work, have physical activity and social life before the next days work. It’s like punishment here right now.Any solution here?

The professors don't even read your papers. They run it through a plagiarism checker. Of coarse it come back with some plagiarism because they have the book and course information in the checker. This is a right wing nut job school.

I just got accepted

I just got accepted. I haven’t even begun and my experience hasn’t been so great. I’ve spoken with Admissions only twice. Both times the representatives were dismissive, and assuming to say the least. The first representative screwed up my name, and genuinely didn’t care. I guess it’s too ethnic for her and maybe she doesn’t have a good handle on the English language to even try to enunciate. As for previous college experience she verbally assumed I had only taken only all general education classes. I come from a medical background. Graduate with honors from my previous college. (BTW- they claim they are having issues obtaining transcripts. I sent in the unofficial transcripts twice. I have the official ones here with me). My other college transcripts- they received just fine. I called them with questions about how the process is going to work, will I have a student advisor, how many classes can I register for (I already registered, I just wanted to inquire how many classes per term). I had my email account set up already and filled out my financial aid prior to being accepted. This isn’t my first rodeo. All the rep kept saying was “you’re already registered so you’re fine. If you need help with the fasfa you need to contact them. Do you understand how to set up your email account”. He kept repeating this (3xs)- I counted. I calmly told him each time, I already have my accounts set up, I don’t need help with the fasfa, I’m already approved, award letter issued, I only need to complete my promissory- I just need these questions answered. My questions were not answered. It’s 2023. I was drawn to this college because it mentioned Christian values. To be spoken down to, and dismissed are NOT my values and I honestly DON’T have to put up with with the questionable micro aggression. I honestly have other choices. Im choosing to withdraw my application. I can seek to finish what I started elsewhere. Its just that simple

Don't even waste your money here

Don't even waste your money here. They say they are there to help guide you, and you can always ask when you have questions, that in fact, is not true. They told me I could get my degree in 2.5 semesters, on top of internships. Everytime I enrolled in classes and I was that much closer to earning my degree, they added on more classes that were mandatory for my degree, making it almost 5 semesters to obtain, and a year of internships. I went in for Social Work and wanting to work in the CPS field. I learned NOTHING about CPS and roles and rules I might have to use in my practice. It was all therapy/therapist related things. Which I found very unrelated for my degree. Every professor gave an Ungodly amount of busy work, and required so much of it, for such a little grade. Some quizzes were only 10 points, so you get a few wrong, and that's not good for your grade. The amount of discussion boards that were "needed" in order to pass the class was very annoying. Being a Christian University, all professors required you to add Bible verses into almost every piece of work. I simply stated in my classes I was not going to do that, because some practices and clients might be offended by religious like factors. And I do not feel like having Bible references are going to change, or impact my work. All professors were fine with it, except one. She got mad that my final essay didn't have a Bible Verse in it, and also stated I had plagiarism in my paper. We had a virtual meeting (all my classes were online) about the paper and the next steps as a student at LU. She stated I also had font size changes and font type changes in my paper, which there is no way, because I typed it all in one sitting. She pointed out the "plagiarism" and said "known knowledge is learned knowledge." Which meant it needs to be cited, because I must've learned that somewhere in my education. She gave my paper a 32% which means I failed the class, and would have to retake the whole thing, which it was all useless knowledge anyway. I was told that the school would also help me get an internship during my Gate 2 class, since that is what that class is all about. When I started the class it said that you had to live within 10 miles of the school for them to help you, and get you leads into places, I live 23 hours away from LU, so I was left to fend for myself with my internship. I met up with a professor, since there was a deadline to land an internship, and I couldn't find one. The professor simply told me to "ask around in church." I don't attend a church, and I stated that to her as well, and it didn't seem to matter, the only way for me to land one, was to attend a church? I ended up finding one all on my own, but it wasn't until the fall semester, I was currently in the winter/spring one. So I informed the instructors that I wasn't doing the internship in the summer, since the agency I was through didn't have any until fall, and the professors said that was fine. So after I failed my one paper, I got an email from the school stating I would need to take Gate 2 again, because it is to be done the semester directly before an internship. So I decided to drop out, since I now would have to redo two whole classes, putting me a semester behind, yet again.
This school only wants your money, and they do not want to help you at all with academics. I get calls almost every other day from the school stating that it's not to late to enroll in the coming up semester, I also get non stop emails and flyers in the mail. There are so many other schools to chose from, and I'm sure there's plenty of schools out there that will actually help you on your degree/career path.

FALLEN FROM GRACE

Oh my how the mighty have fallen! This is another Christian School that's fallen from grace. Man these people in the office have a lying spirit on them. So they lied and said my school dismissed me on my transcript, they will also try to make you repeat courses to make you stay longer if you had low scoring even though you got full credit. Then they said I had to appeal, but because I filled a nice complaint, these cowards just start sending emails and phone calls never apologizing but trying to register me for classes. Then when I addressed someone in the email about the appeal, they lied and said well you already talked to the appeals office. I contacted Fasfa and told them what they were doing. They are uneducated in business, mildly racist, money hungry, and deceitful. Thank God this new guy Costin is coming in. His record is solid. He's going to be like a bull in a china shop. People can be in church for years and not be saved. You just have to make a decision, did God call you here and can you make a difference? And is it worth the trouble? I got into a new high level school. No reports of a dismissal...bunch of lying wonders

The whole concept of “you are a dollar…

The whole concept of “you are a dollar to them” is accurate. They state it’s flexible while working but when you request additional guidance or insight you get the “it’s on the website” response. Don’t even bother requesting additional assignments or extra credit to better your grade because you will not receive support for that. I had high hopes for Liberty and at first it was great but the closer you get to graduation, the less they seem to care about you. I’m really disappointed in the Christian based mindset not being so open to helping those that request it.

Stay away from Liberty

I WAS in the DBA program for project management for 2 years. The first 7 'classes' were 700 level. There are 15 'classes' you have to take before actually starting your own research.. amazing, huh? After the first 7 classes, I had to take 600-level classes with MBA students. Why? Who knows. And, I already have an MBA AND a Master's in Project Management from GWU and these classes were not waived. In my LAST class with Liberty the 'professor' was so bad, I found his research. When I read his research, it was so bad....as many of the Liberty professors are...there is nothing ACTUALLY TAUGHT... this is a waste of money and time... stay away from this place...too many fake professors with degrees from liberty, U of Phoenix and Capella ...they are horrible

If you think this place is too good to be true, you're right!

This is the worst University I have ever applied to. I was accepted into the B.Engineering program in September 2020 and have had nothing but problems since. I have a degree from another institution and assumed all my general ed would be good to go (except for Bible of course). That was not the case. Their transfer policies are suspect, by that I mean they seem to withhold many applicable credits, even after appeal, and for what reason? I gave them the benefit of the doubt for that but after raising these concerns in a lengthy e-mail to the Registrar's office, I'm convinced they are predatory. Especially towards veterans. My e-mail was responded to with; "Thanks for your email!" and then they hit me with policy and a link to another form to fill out, their 'complaint form,' which I did and noted that it was quite odd to have character limits on a complaint form. They haven't addressed any of my concerns but every step of the way, almost daily and at least 4 times a week, I was being hassled to complete "Financial Check In." It is QUITE clear to me that they were hoping to lock me in just to take my money. I have never been so disrespected before in my life. I am so disappointed that they brand themselves as a Christian University, it really is a shame. Some other things of note; if you sign up for the school, they will call you every day with robo calls until you tell them to cease and desist, also, if you ask for an appeal on credits, don't expect any explanation nor any avenue to explain yourself other than via "the form." I didn't realize until now that it is might suspicious how they use all of these "forms" to "do things." Also, there is no one you can e-mail or call with issues, just "the form." Additionally, their website is fragmented. If you click a link it will likely dead end you somewhere which means after you've done your business you have to close the tab and go back to liberty. "edu" to get back to a directory of links. I have GI Bill benefits just waiting to be used but it won't be here! Liberty may be the winner of the 2020 "Most Unprofessional" award.

BEWARE of the "positive" reviews...

BEWARE of the "positive" reviews.... there are thousands of negative reviews that will never make it to these sites based on students simply wanting their experiences at Liberty to just be over and done with. Online doctoral program is a joke. No one cares to help. You are a number to them with a dollar sign over your head, that is all. No one, administration or instructors, are held accountable for the way the treat students so horribly. You can beg for help and they will tell you that they will pray for you. Please, stay away from this school. You will only regret it.
