Initiative to help garment workers impacted by Covid. Lost Stock allows shoppers to buy a mystery box of clothes cancelled by leading brands and retailers. For every box bought a garment worker and her family for a week through the Bangladeshi NGO, Sajida Foundation. This initiative was set up in May 2020 in response to $2bn of clothes being cancelled by leading brands with no payments being made to factories. In 7 months 125,000 boxes were sold, surpassing the initial target of 10,000. To do this a new global supply chain was built during a pandemic from scratch.

What a total scam

What a total scam! Ordered thinking like many others that this was a great way to help those in need and also get a bargain surprise box of clothes that I didn't have to go into the shops and get. Promised £70 worth of clothes which were surplus supplies due to the pandemic, what arrived after many months of waiting was certainly a surprise, but not in a good way.....it was a load of tat. So cheap and poorly made that I felt embarrassed giving it to the charity shop.
I would say avoid at all costs, but fortunately #loststock is closing, and not before time!
Lining your own pockets during these difficult times you should be ashamed of yourself!

Save your money. Give directly to a charity.

I ordered a package in March, took it at face value for what they had set out to do.
The package arrived months after it was due, there was updates on the packages only after months of waiting. The items did not come from the country which I signed up to support, and the items were in a non wearable state/condition. Very poor quality of fabric, stitching, and items not as described.

When we set out to build Lost Stock we aimed to sell 10,000 boxes, in the end, we sold over 124,000. This increase in scale and complexity along with the continual changes created by the pandemic meant that some orders were delayed and we’re really sorry for this issue. We tried our best to keep customers up to date but this wasn’t always possible in the circumstances and in the context of what we were trying to do. We acknowledge we could have done better, and we’re sorry we let you down with this.

As outlined at the start of the project, whilst the aid element was focused on helping workers in Bangladesh we did on occasion buy items that had been cancelled in other production countries where factories had seen large cancellations. With this in mind, we bought some items from India and a very small number from China – under 5%. Before we bought any stock, we checked the accreditation of the factories and would only buy direct, to ensure transparency of the supply chain.
We updated on this multiple times during the initiative on social media and in blog posts as it was never our intention for this to be, in any way a secret. However, we’re sorry if you didn’t feel this was made clear to you when you purchased.

I reviewed this around 6 months ago but seems to have been removed? Anyway. Just to confirm what all the other reviews say. Shocking company and felt totally misled and scammed by the whole experience.

Embarrassed that I fell for this scam

I thought this sounded like a great idea so I purchased in may as soon as it was launched. I was promised a box of £70 worth of clothes and I selected dark neutrals. I purposefully picked that category as it seems daft to save items from landfill for me just to add them to the landfill problem here.
Unfortunately the “Great” ended at just being an idea as whoever was behind this done a terrible job. I didn’t receive my package for months but I was prepared to wait as it was for a good cause. When it did arrive it was a small plastic bag that had been posted from China and since it was supposed to be helping Bangladeshi families this raised alarm bells, even if it was from Bangladesh and then sent to China for packaging the carbon footprint on it was disgusting.
Then I opened the bag trying to be optimistic but I was horrified to fine 3 plain white vest tops in, I don’t think it could be any further from dark and the quality was the cheapest see through Nasty fabrics I’ve ever seen. They were real fast fashion tat that I try to avoid so I was already dissapointed. Then I spotted they still had their matalan labels in so I searched on matalan and found them for sale at £6 each full price (normal for matalan) I was honestly disgusted.
I had been taken for a complete mug, £35 for 3x£6 cheap vests and they had been shipped around the world to get to me.
I accepted it and thought I’d just been unlucky but then I saw more and more people online had received the same crappy bag as myself and realised it was not an accident I had been blatantly scammed.
I messaged lost stock and sent them pictures, they proceeded to try and guilt me into keeping the items as the money had gone to charity but I found out that was not the case at all. The owners had infact all taken wages from this scam and to this day there has been no proof of any profits however small the percentage was actually going to charity.
I demanded a full refund and after a lot of hassle I finally got one, lost stock proceeded to delete all negative comments or questions online but I still saw more and more popping up this time showing items that were previously on sale in stores years before as others already owned them.
I then realised how deep this scam went, they were not only buying cheap lost stock from China they were also buying unwanted old stock to keep Packing out bags and ripping people off claiming it was from Bangladesh and this seasons.
I have all correspondence still as proof and photos of the awful cheap vests so please feel free to contact for proof as it seems lost stock is trying to get honest reviews removed from here too by saying they have had no dealings with the customer leaving the review

Mmmm borderline ok

Ordered a boys clothes box very early on, it took nearly 6 months to come. I still haven't received the tracking email. I was pretty chilled at the beginning, as we were in a pandemic. But the lack of communication and general dismissal was frustrating. After several months, point blank refusal to refund When the clothes eventually arrived, they were ok, mostly the cheaper end of the market, some with their original label on. It's a lovely concept, but not one I would recommend.

Great idea, incredibly poor execution

I loved the idea of this and ordered excitedly in early May. My summer box arrived at the beginning of November, perfect for life in the Northern Hemisphere.
Communication was dire and the quality of the clothes was in my opinion nowhere near the promised RRP of £70
I feel utterly ripped off. I was repeatedly told I couldn't cancel my order while I was waiting months for it to arrive.
I saw people who had ordered months after me receive their boxes far quicker than I did.

When it did turn up I was made to feel as though asking for a refund would be detrimental to the charity so I felt as though I should keep the clothes - they've now been donated to a charity shop. I wish I'd just given £35 directly to a charity, but I thought I was helping eliminate some waste too.

We bought stock cancelled by over 50 different brands and retailers due to the coronavirus pandemic, directly from factories. Due to this being cancelled stock, all brand tags had to be removed from products to allow them to be sold, which in some cases can make items feel lower quality. We’re sorry that you weren’t happy with the quality of the items in your Lost Stock box.

We offered a complete refund policy and updated this during the process to be more favorable to consumers but due to the margins on which Lost Stock was built we were not able to offer free returns.

A very disappointing experience

If you don't believe how bad LS is, read this review.

So, whilst you might not get the honour of ordering something at Lost Stock yourself (let's hope they stay closed forever!), here's a fun little timeline about my order:
27 May
I ordered a Lost Stock box, thinking I'd do something good and help save clothes from landfill, was told wait would be 6-8 weeks, fine, not going anywhere anyway.
20 June
Was told my order was worth the wait (after all, it was worth £70, right?) and that it would arrive within 6-8 weeks from order date (yay, only a month or so to go!)
9 July
You're telling me you've been sooooo busy and that so many good people like myself have ordered a LS box that it might take "a little longer" than the initial 6-8 weeks. Ah well, I'm still doing good and I've nowhere to wear my fabulous, £70-worth clothes from High Street Brands anyway.
22 July
My order should be arriving any day now, would it not take "a little longer" than initially thought, but your buying team has now finally bought all the stock and are removing the brand labels (haven't heard that before, I wonder why but think nothing more of it, after all, I'm supporting a poor family and will receive £70 worth of beautiful clothes!)
12 August
I'm asked to check my delivery address. I'm surprised, as I've given you my address upon ordering (on 27 May, remember?), but then maybe you think that I moved house in the meantime because, it's been 3 months now.
27 August
Now that's exciting news! You're currently packing my bag (yay!) and I will receive tracking information shortly. But please note, it "may take up to a week to be completed". Ah, what's a week compared to the three months I've already been waiting!
But then, there's a Guardian article. About a few people not being happy with their order. Having nothing better to do, I do some digging and find out that there are more than a few people not happy with their order. But why, after all, they should have received £70 worth of beautiful clothes! Well, I'll see for myself shortly, because I will receive my tracking details any day now!

No tracking details, that's very odd. The weather has now turned and I don't see how I will wear summer tops now, worth £70 or not, so I ask you to cancel my order. I'm told that I can't because it's already with the logistics provider, but I am assured that I will receive those details soon and you are ever so sorry for the delay - you are doing everything humanly possible to get me my order.

A few fabulous people in a Facebook Group have told me that I can get my money back via PayPal because, let's be honest, I can't be sure my parcel will ever arrive and it's now been more than twice the time that was initially scheduled. But you guys have been sooo busy. After all, so many good people have ordered a box, errm, bag, that you forgot who ordered first so you sent out orders from people who have ordered in August and September but forgot about the people who ordered in May. We're all new to this pandemic thing, so these things can happen, right?
I open my case against Lost Stock with Paypal.
6 October
A new development! My order is awaiting a flight to the UK and I'm due to receive my tracking code either this week or next. Exciting, thinking about receiving summer clothes in autumn and even more exciting is the prospect of "will I really receive them or not?", what a fun time I have wondering about that! And boy, what will happen once I receive them? So many things to consider! Eeeek!

Lost Stock fails to respond to the Paypal case. I wonder why that is. Maybe you're so busy packing my bag. It must be a great bag taking 4+ months to be packed! Or maybe, just maybe, you're inundated with Paypal complaints because you can't fulfil your orders (and the ones you do manage to fulfil are unsatisfactory). Paypal refunds me £38.99. I donate money to Sajida Foundation (heard of them? They support Bangladeshi garment workers, great stuff, you might want to donate to them too!) and other charities.
3 November
It was my birthday yesterday and lo and behold, you're giving me a belated birthday present! You're telling me that I will FINALLY receive my tracking information by the end of this week! But wait, didn't I get my refund 2 weeks ago? Yes, yes, I did. Because I don't want cheap tat from Matalan, paying almost £40 for it AND wait 5+ months for it (let's be honest here, WHO actually would want that?). I'm not holding my breath whether these mysterious tracking details will ever appear.
Some time later
The postie rings (just once!) and wants to hand me my Lost Stock bag. I tell him the story (he's up for gossipy news!) and he's gladly taking the bag back.

By the way, LS have also blocked me on social media after questioning their business practice, not to mention Mallzee being part of the whole problem of fast fashion (which LS claims to want to solve...).

Great idea

I thought this was a good way to help the poor garment makers and avoid wasted clothing at the same time. I ordered some and encouraged my daughters to do so as well. We were all pleased with our clothes.

Just took too long for underwhelming items

I ordered a children's box on 4th July and it finally arrived on the 20th November. Luckily I have a younger child as i was starting to worry none of it would fit.
When it finally arrived i was underwhelmed, plain long sleeve T-shirts a green polycotton school polo shirt and the thinnest cotton shirt ever plus a hoodie which is ok but I wouldn't have bought as not cotton. If i had gone shopping needing those items there's no way that i would spend £35 on them and i would buy nicer.
I gave up at that point, I didn't see the point of dragging the experience out trying to sort alternatives
Such a nice idea that totally flopped in my experience.

9 months waiting for nothing

I ordered a box in May when I first seen the ads and articles. I was so excited and I thought "What a wonderful way for me to put my spare cash to good use". However, many months passed with email after email saying my box was on the way and I'd have it soon. Eventually I emailed in December to cancel my order. I didn't have any problems around cancelling as thanks to the hindsight of many others I informed Loststock in my email of how they were breaking consumer rights by not providing the goods. I instead put my refund into a donation where it will hopefully be used for better.

Truly appalling

My experience was absolutely appalling with loststock. The wait time was frustrating, but my biggest frustration was the false promises. The garments I received were worth less than the cost of the box, rather than the £70 RRP. They were cheaply made and horribly undesirable. They then proceeded to deny refunds and use guilt tripping of my refund request over the (tiny) charity donation. Their lack of transparency and refusal to engage and make things right was even worse.

The are just a company looking to profit from a terrible situation in Bangladesh.

Edit: from the response I’d like to add that free returns were legally required given LostStock’s failure to provide the goods they advertised.

Terrible service
All felt like a lie.
Sent inferior clothing
Some came from China, with labels, but we were supposed to be supporting Indian clothing workers?!
Happy to support a good cause but this was not that.
Clothing that arrived would cost approx £20 when we bought a package “worth” £70
Clothes from a budget clothing store; nothing wrong with that but would be cheaper to go in and buy it myself.
The company tried a few times to twist my arm into not returning items. Telling me to give it away; after I parted with £70. Felt like they were guilt tripping me. ( happy to supply the emails that show this )
Would love to know how much made it to the Charity.
In my his best opinion Lost Stock should be investigated for misleading customers and not treating me as a customer fairly.
They also made me pay my own returns costs.

Throughout this initiative, we’ve tried very hard to create a great experience for consumers in the face of numerous challenges created by the situation facing workers and also in building a totally new supply chain in the middle of a pandemic.

As outlined at the start of the project, whilst the aid element was focused on helping workers in Bangladesh we did on occasion buy items that had been cancelled in other production countries where factories had seen large cancellations. With this in mind, we bought some items from India and a very small number from China – under 5%. Before we bought any stock, we checked the accreditation of the factories and would only buy direct, to ensure transparency of the supply chain.
We updated on this multiple times during the initiative on social media and in blog posts as it was never our intention for this to be, in any way a secret. However, we’re sorry if you didn’t feel this was made clear to you when you purchased.

We offered a complete refund policy and updated this during the process to be more favorable to consumers but due to the margins on which Lost Stock was built we were not able to offer free returns.

The selection of autumn winter clothes…

The selection of autumn winter clothes was not very good. They look and feel very cheap. I appreciate that the money goes to a good cause, but I doubt I’ll wear them.

We bought stock cancelled by over 50 different brands and retailers due to the coronavirus pandemic, directly from factories. Due to this being cancelled stock, all brand tags had to be removed from products to allow them to be sold, which in some cases can make items feel lower quality. We’re sorry that you weren’t happy with the quality of the items in your Lost Stock box.

Poor and disappointing

Sadly, although this was a great concept this company has left me feeling truly disappointed and genuinely questioning their ethics and their interests. To date, they still have not revealed whether any money has actually reached the factory workers they are allegedly supporting. My experience was, I ordered a box on 2/7/20 this was supposed to arrive in 6-8 weeks. It did not arrive until 20/11/20. During the extended time I was refused multiple refund requests and in the end when the box of unsuitable and cheap ( no where near the expected retail price advertised) box arrived I had to fork out at my own cost to return it. I have now received a full refund which to be fair at the point at which I received and returned the next day, the refund was processed fairly quickly in line with their returns policy. However,the overall experience has meant I would never buy from Lost Stock ever again and I would always donate directly to charity.

Very worthy cause helping workers in clothing factories in third world countries who are paid very little and have to work so hard to earn wages Products ordered are slow arriving

Only giving 1 star As I cannot leave no star!!!
My £70 worth of clothing was 4 Matalan vests... I emailed the company only to receive an automated message guilt tripping me into thinking I was helping a charity.
I was embarrassed tbh that I was foolish enough to believe the BS and I wouldn’t ever fall into this trap again.
P.s the vests were used as dusters as the quality of them were awful... all misshaped after washing.... avoid this “company” ar all cost!

With Lost Stock we only bought items that had been cancelled by brands and retailers. By the end of the project we had bought products that had been cancelled by over 50 different companies. Due to this being cancelled stock, all brand tags had to be removed from products to allow them to be sold, which in some cases can make items feel lower quality. In a couple of small instances, brands returned to buy some of their originally cancelled stock from the factories we were working with and then sold these items at a price lower than the outlined RRP. Whilst it is commended that brands returned to purchase this stock and helped factories and workers of course this caused some confusion.

Diabolical

I placed an order back in May 2020, duped by the idea of this being an initiative giving back to poor workers where orders had been cancelled by big suppliers during the COV19 pandemic.
What I did not expect was months of chasing, emails being ignored, and generic responses received when emails were finally answered. It took a great deal of persistence to receive a full refund over 6 months after ordering and no items being received. In principle this was a great idea, however the lack of transparency and disregard for customers rightly complaining about items not received really disappointed me, and I would urge anyone considering investing with this company to do some research and read reviews from many of us unhappy customers prior to parting with your money!

When we set out to build Lost Stock we aimed to sell 10,000 boxes, in the end, we sold over 124,000. This increase in scale and complexity along with the continual changes created by the pandemic meant that some orders were delayed and we’re really sorry for this issue. We tried our best to keep customers up to date but this wasn’t always possible in the circumstances and in the context of what we were trying to do. We acknowledge we could have done better, and we’re sorry we let you down with this.

Although it took a very long time for…

Although it took a very long time for the goods to arrive this was quite understandable. As I was buying them as a gesture of solidarity, there was no rush. What impressed me was how Loststock kept me informed during the waiting. There were sufficient updates and an honest acknowledgment that it wasn't going to be easy to coordinate such an undertaking during a time of global pandemic.
