I have been with M1 for well over 7+ years! I absolutely love their platform and have had no complaints.

Yes, you do need to read the fine print whenever you are signing up for a digital banking service!

But if you have the right balance then everything is great. They have one of these absolute lowest margin trading loan rates across all platforms!!!

M1 finance makes it nearly impossible to cash out your money when you’re ready. They force you to use plaid, and plaid does not work in setting up a transfer with betterment, with Chase, with Fulton, with capital one. This is a scam and when you try to resolve the issue you are forced to have an unhelpful conversation with AI, no one is available to help resolve the issue. Scam scam scam. I’m being charged three dollars a month and was just charged $30 for a failed transaction because I can’t actually change my bank.

I reopened an account with M1 Finance without any clear disclosure that they had implemented a $3 monthly fee for smaller accounts or that leaving the account would cost $100.

The $3 fee was sprung on me after reopening. When I immediately tried to close the account, I was told I would have to pay a $100 closing or transfer fee to leave. In other words, I was trapped between continuing to pay an undisclosed monthly fee or paying a much larger penalty just to get out.

I spent hours on the phone with customer service, escalated to supervisors, and sent multiple emails explaining that I would never have reopened the account had these fees been clearly disclosed. They refused to help in any way or offer a reasonable exit. The response was essentially: pay the fee or stay stuck.

This feels like a classic dark-pattern setup — introduce a recurring fee without clear notice, then block exit with a disproportionate penalty. Customer service was unhelpful and dismissive, even after repeated escalation.

If you value transparency or the ability to leave an account without being punished, be very careful. Once you’re in, getting out can be expensive.

I was unhappy with my experience, so I chose to transfer my account to another brokerage. M1 has posed obstacle after obstacle, even holding the account for an ACH transfer I did not initiate. What a nightmare. At one point, I asked them where the cash from one of my dividend payments was, and they didn't know. And they didn't even try to find it. They just said it was probably involved in an ACH transfer I had made, which it wasn't. I had to figure it out for myself. Wish I had checked Trust Pilot before I decided to invest with them.

I felt trapped when the renewable investment locked my account. The fear was constant. C͟y͟p͟h͟e͟r͟G͟u͟a͟r͟d͟I͟n͟t͟e͟l͟ helped uncover what happened and recover my money. That support meant everything to me.

This is a company that works with scammers, one of these scammers is Abdulla And Nasir Used Cars Tr Llc, I never recommend working with them because your car will either be stolen or damaged.

HORRIBLE place for an IRA. FEES all over the place. These clowns charged $200 in fees to transfer it to another investment house which amounted to 37% of my portfolio just starting out. I recommend placing money at FIDELITY. No crooks over here.

They have gone very downhill. Their customer service slowly went from great to awful. I am lucky if I get a response in 2 days.
They also are majorly prioritizing new customers over loyal customers, which makes the experience super frustrating because there are almost no incentives to stay. I am appalled by their last move to only help new customers on their cash rate; absolutely insane to me that they do not offer any good incentives to people with an account 5+ years old. Vanguard has much better service and a better cash rate. I am all for supporting the little guys, but they have shown me that they do not care about loyal customers, and after repeatedly reaching out to them about this, they have constantly dismissed my concerns

The customer service just repeats what you yourself can see on the bill without providing any solutions. They just state that this is policy and cannot do anything. The powerlessness eats you from the inside out and you are left with a feeling of hatred and frustration that would turn Gandhi into to most profane internet troll.

There customer service is extremely poor when you have account and when you don't have account.

When my account was not there they have schedule 30 min Zoom call -once money is in person stop responding via email -customer service point to Help center article.

Zoom call information was completely different than Customer service. I moved my asset for the margin loan and now they are asking me to wait for 20+ days to remove hold from the asset.

Advertising to have $0 fees, after you sign up, they changed their terms and want to charge $3/mo tor accounts under $10k. This is a pure scam. I closed my account the next day.

Scam, signed up because (like every other brokerage) it was free. They couldn’t get enough people to sign up for their premium services. So they made us sign up. No opt outs allowed. Monthly fee for life. TERRIBLE!

I HAVE HAD AN M1 ACCOUNT FOR AT LEAST FOUR YEARS. ABOUT A WEAK AGO I COULD NOT LOG INTO MY ACCOUNT ON ANY OF MY THREE DEVICES. EVEN MY FACE ID STOPPED WORKING. THE ONLY ANSWER FROM THEIR MINDLESS AI IS TO RESET YOUR PASSWORD. JUST ENTER YOUR EMAIL AND THEY SEND ONE FOR RESET. OVER AN HOUR AND 5 TRIES. NO RESET EMAIL. SO I TRIED SENDING A CONTACT EMAIL FOR HELP. BUT YOU HAVE TO ENTER YOUR EMAL AND PASSWORD TO SEND THE HELP EMAIL. IDIOTS.

M1 Finance appears to be abusing the privilege granted to them under FINRA rules to arbitrarily jack up margin maintenance percentages and shake investors out of positions. In the past week they have done this to my portfolio by increasing the maintenance requirement on my largest holding 30% in two 15% hikes. During this same period of time, implied volatility, their so-called justification for this attack, decreased to a ranking that is generally considered to be moderately high, but not extreme. M1's rapid increase of the maintenance requirement is extreme, however, and it is now injuring me financially and forcing me to completely halt my investing strategies to redirect funds to my margin balance. This appears to be a predatory brokerage that is violating FINRA directives by taking actions intended to force transactions so that they can collect trading fees. I recommend that you stay away from M1 if you do not have an account there, stop further investment and use of their portfolio lending product if you do have an account, and take your business elsewhere to a more reputable firm as soon as you are able. That's what I will be doing.

Avoid M1 Finance at all costs! My experience with them has been nothing short of a nightmare. First, they had no idea why my ACH transfer was stuck in limbo for over a week. Then, they suddenly blamed it on a vendor outage without any real explanation.

When I attempted to pull my money out, they did nothing but stall, misquote policies, and delay the process without justification. They referenced anti-money laundering regulations that don’t apply to in-kind security transfers—just another excuse to keep my funds locked up. Despite my repeated attempts to get clarity and move forward, they refused to act and kept citing arbitrary rules.

Their so-called "client success" team is completely ineffective, constantly escalating cases but never actually resolving them. I suggest you look at their FINRA record before opening any account with them.

I can’t talk to anybody and I cannot log into my account. There is a 2F for my security but I can’t log into my account bc of that. I’ve tried to remove it but the support says that they will confirm your identity first before removing that. I have been waiting for weeks now and I haven’t gotten a single message as to what is happening. I’ve done it twice now and still can’t log in. They sent me messages but I can’t even read them bc they send it through the account that I CANNOT log into.
I also got another account opened with with them bc someone referred me so I received 30$ but they didn’t even credit it to the account I opened they opened a separate one. Well long story short they ended up taking money away from that 30$ account due to fees and a because I was not meeting the requirement of the amount it was supposed to have to keep it open. So they took the stupid 30$ that they gave me so yeah rip off. The whole thing rip off.
