Poor service and communication
I applied to M&S Bank over two weeks ago (around 17 days) and have still not received any acknowledgement of my application. I have had to call every three days just to chase for an update, as I urgently need the loan for a car.
Despite multiple follow‑ups, I have received no meaningful update, and I am now considering cancelling the application altogether. The level of service has been extremely poor—easily the worst I have experienced with any bank.
This has been very disappointing, and based on this experience, I would not recommend M&S Bank to anyone. I strongly advise others to stay away.

Rate not as advertised, process painfully slow
Applied for a personal loan to switch from my current provider due to the promise of a much lower (5.7%) APR. Nine days later I still haven't had a loan agreement through but when I called to chase it up the customer services advisor was able to tell me that the approved rate is actually 6.9%. When I asked why as a high earner with an excellent credit score I wasn't given the advertised rate they were unable to answer. Despite the fact that 6.9% is marginally lower than my current provider I won't be switching because my current provider (Nationwide Bank) makes it incredibly easy to manage my loan. I can overpay immediately from my current account & the balance updates the next working day. From reading other reviews the small financial saving just isn't worth the additional hassle of having to deal with M&S.

Had a mands £ 10k loan taken under a scammer (as well as santander 10k and monzo 15k). All totally unaffordable on nurse's pension. After a year's communication had mands completely resolved. During that terrible time, I was automatically put thru to compassionate help staff who had transcripts of all my calls detailing ensuing mental health issues and life changing difficulties. Their conduct and support was exemplary. Can't say the same for other loan banks
Avoid M&S Bank at all cost
Don't bother wasting your time with M&S Bank. Applied for a loan at 5.8% for a Range Rover that I was supposed to collect tomorrow. I chased them all week and was told different stories each time. The paperwork finally arrived by email only to have 10.9% on it. M&S Bank have lied to me, messed me around, misled and misrepresented their APR. Thanks to M&S Bank I will not be collecting my new car tomorrow and will not be having and loan with them as I cancelled it. Thanks to Tesco Bank I will be having my Range Rover the early part of next week with a 5.8% loan as they advertised.
Worst experience ever
Worst experience ever. I was treated terribly by customer service. They didn’t even care that I have a disability with cancer. I paid of loan as they made me so uncomfortable. Only company to treat me like this.I cleared off my loan as I worried so much about how rude they were to me. Not acceptable at all. Whenever I asked any questions they told me that I should take the matter further with a different company.
This has made me very unwell and I’m a recovering cancer patient .

Cancelled a payment made to a regular supplier to my home address.
No apologies, just told it was the fault of the supplier and now I could order again anyway.

Absolutely dire. The app and the website are like something from the early days of the internet. So basic, and glitchy its untrue. The communications from M&S are sketchy, and the 'Help' bot is about as much use as a chocolate teapot. So many hurdles to jump just to set up something which should be way more simple. They dont even provide the info you need to do it. Seriously considering ditching them after just 3 days.

Repeatedly failed to cancel a stolen credit card for 93 year old causing extreme distress.
To reassure parent cancelled direct debit to M&S as M&S wouldn’t cancel the card.
I (daughter with Power of Attorney), neighbour who went to support, me again tried to cancel. Only got cancelled due to threat of social media.
Letter of apology received reassuring staff acted incorrectly and would be trained.
Today M&S have written to demand a late payment fee!!! An organisation that has learnt nothing!
Complete rubbish
I've only given 1 star because that is the minimum. I foolishly agreed to go paper free statements, BIG mistake! Unable to log onto Internet banking to download statement. Contacted customer services who said they would send me a physical pass which would allow me to log on. When it arrived, the instructions to activate were via Internet banking which I could not access. After another 45 minutes on the phone going around in circles with a person who didn't appear to understand the problem, I've requested to go back to paper statements. Complete farce. M&S is not what it used to be, very disappointing. I will now pay my last statement and cut the card up!

One of the worst customer service I’ve ever experienced in Banking world. I just wanted a loan closing statement and M&S bank is not willing to support me. It is a complete joke. I don’t think there are any other Bank who is so difficult as M&S.

I expect better from M&S
Several months ago I was encouraged to switch to digital credit card statements with the offer of a £10 credit. This was due to be received by 15th August. Today, 10 days later, I am still waiting and have just spent 26m on the phone in an effort to sort it out. Most of that time was spent on hold as they clearly had no idea what to do but I was eventually told that the £10 will be credited within 2 days. I am not holding my breath and would have expected better from M&S in the first place. A complete shambles as other reviewers have said.

I have a credit card and was offered £10 to stop written statements. So I did. Then tried logging into the app. Days later, I’m locked out and I can’t get in to my on line banking. Either on the laptop or through the app. I’m now going to have to cancel my card and get a credit card through my bank. Well done marks and Spencer …. Shambolic!

Absolutely dismal company to deal with - very poor customer service with long periods on hold, little or no ability to make decisions. Our loan was approved but the money was never transferred. After ringing customer service, they couldn't offer any solutions, and at one point said the problem was solved when it wasn't. In the end we cancelled the application as we just could not be dealing with this company.
