MLS-Legal (Mr Michael Dhliwayo) is an unregulated paralegal which means you cannot get assistance or complain to the legal Ombudsman or Solicitors Regulators Authority (SRA), or any if the paralegal bodies. MLS is also a one man band. He/They are not upfront about this.

Mr Dhliwayo acted wholly for me for over 30 months in an Employment Tribunal case against my employer.

During that time he repeatedly failed to request transcripts he was instructed to get. He failed to follow advice given from the judge/court to elaborate on his claims/paperwork. Contributed to significant delays. Left everything to the last minute to spite being warned not to by the court. Had good claims removed without instruction due to him being ill prepared, made paranoid claims that I was recording him, Provided incorrect legal advice requiring me to pay additional fees to the court. Incorrectly filed claims and failed to file some claims altogether. Initially advised he could pursue claims that where outside the tribunals purview regarding shares/dividends and later when it was brought to light it was outside the scope. Took fees upfront with percentage of winnings to be paid on success.

In the first week of January 2026 he emailed all parties confirming he was immediately ceasing to act as my representative without any prior warning.

He has since failed to provide any complaints process, my case files, any refund of the fees paid or any damages or even respond at all. These actions have had impacts on both my mental health and case. I am now having to pursue reporting him to via Citizens Advice/Trading Standards and taking seperate legal action.

If you are considering using his services I would strongly suggest you look else ware.

Legal Executives like him are members of CILEX (the Chartered Institute of Legal Executives) and a very effective-but-affordable alternative to a solicitor or a barrister. Moreover Legal Executives with his abilities may prove to be better hires than either solicitors or barristers, as I'll explain if you bear with me.

I discovered Michael via the informative MLS Legal website and, by the time he had first spoken of payment, he had certainly taken the time to fully comprehend my case as a claimant. So he'd self-evidently read and digested 60 or 70 pages. This contrasted sharply with the engagement I had from a barrister some years ago who would have lost that case through lack of preparation had he not been firmly told to sit down and listen before he made another gaffe.

Michael and I negotiated a deal that would mean him pitching up in Cambridge today as my McKenzie Friend (under the circumstances he could just as easily been my Litigation Friend but time was short and we settled for the former). By the time he arrived he had already done far more to prepare than I had a right to expect. But what really made him great to have beside me was not just that he knows far more than the average layman can ever hope to know and when to deploy that knowledge. It was that, when we suddenly found ourselves in a rapidly-developing situation that temporarily imperilled my claim, Michael knew exactly what to do and was generating the solutions (so conjuring up on a screen precisely what to say to the judge and the defendant's barrister) in real time. And in this respect, because he thinks very well on his feet, Michael Dhliwayo was a hero.

No, on this occasion he didn't speak for me as he would have done were he there as my Litigation Friend. Yet moving into the next phase of my case I may well want him to do. He is exceptionally pleasant, articulate and well-spoken, has a deep understanding of the law on which he can draw before he speaks, and he was well-presented. Most importantly his very presence probably prevented me from being steamrollered (this happens routinely in some courtrooms to litigants-in-person; today Michael's very presence ensured I was treated properly).

Today we faced a hostile barrister representing the defendant though Michael was up for the challenge and his clear-thinking may well have been why the case remained on-track for a full hearing later this year. Thus that defence barrister failed in his objective. So this was the chief parameter on which I judge Michael's performance. And yet there was another. Because I would prefer to employ somebody like Michael every time since he has integrity; CILEX has these Legal Executives take the equivalent of a doctor's Hippocratic oath whereas the Solicitors' Regulation Authority has no equivalent and thus there has been a lot written in the Law Society Gazette and elsewhere about inhouse solicitors being ethically compromised. Michael wasn't. Unlike the barrister we faced today Michael was there simply to ensure that I was treated fairly, not to wilfully participate in injustice. And consequently I was delighted to have him in my corner.

I worked with Michael Dhliwayo who was very patient, attentive, professional and polite. We worked together on a weekly basis via e-mail and a couple of calls. He was able to effectively express my concerns and requests to the other party. We eventually reached an agreement.

I believe a mediator is necessary when two parties can't move forward, it helps put both perspectives on paper and reach a reasonable outcome.
