This is an update on my previous review from October 8th 2024 about a Mitsubishi Shogun that we bought from Modern Classics in May. The car had so many faults which became evident as we were driving it home from the dealership, but MC denied there was anything wrong with it and refused to refund a penny of our £9500.00 we paid them for it.
As I wrote before, we were forced to go through a lengthy chargeback process with Mastercard, which has only just been resolved - and I am delighted to report that they have found in our favour and refunded our money.
We also discovered during this process that on June 24th, MC decided to produce another MOT, which showed a “Pass” - but what they didn’t show the bank was the MOT done the previous day (23rd June) which FAILED the car on one of the very issues that our independent report had highlighted; The steering column was dangerous and needed immediate repair.
How they managed to take the car away, fix it, then return it the next morning for another MOT is very suspect, especially given that the mileage was exactly the same on both MOT tests, so they hadn’t moved it at all!
So I strongly suspect that our mechanic was right (and other reviews on this site also allege) when he wrote in his report that this dealership may be issuing dodgy MOTs - as if it failed, but they had repaired it and put the car back in to be retested, then why not be honest and tell the bank this? But they didn’t.
Do NOT trust these guys - they are dishonest and untrustworthy.

Highly recommend this garage I bought a honda crv paid for it over the phone they delivered it to maryport cumbria within a few days. Staff went above and beyond to keep me happy also got the car checked and Is in great condition love it thank you.

Recently bought an Insignia VXR estate from these guys, found them great to deal with, agreed a good price for the car and the car is faultless. Happy Customer.

Don't not buy off these robbers the bad reviews are true , selling mot failure cars with full dodgy mot,s ,no doubt about it the worst dealership around they do not care about the customers or there reputation when threatened with trading standards, fobbed off when rang up to complain

I bought my 2010 987 Boxster from John jut around 1 year ago. I was delighted with all aspects of the purchase then. And the intervening time has only convinced me how superb a car my purchase is. I can unhesitatingly recommend Classic Modern Cars to any buyer!!!

Avoid at all costs - dodgy cars with dodgier mechanics / sales.

My son bought a car from them in April, and has spent, so far £1000 getting it fixed. When bought it had a cracked multimedia screen, which is fair enough they knocked off money so he could get a new one. Before driving the car away after purchasing, an amber "check engine" light appeared on the dash - the guy told him it is "likely to be due to the low fuel so should be fine when filled up". Not the case. Called the garage and emailed to ask for them to look at it, as it was not right, they eventually looked at it, took it away, came back to say they'd sorted it - but all they'd done was get the OBD diagnostics codes cleared. After that, and emails requesting it to be fixed properly, no response.

Eventually I got a mobile mechanic to come out and check it / fix it, to the tune of £550 to replace 2 cheap and nasty solenoids in the oil system, clean out the oil as it was full of old timing belt particles (fortunately this hadn't snapped or it'd have been a new engine) and a drive belt that was going to fail very soon!

Long story short, they'll sell you the car, say it is good and even offer a warranty on it, but as soon as you leave the garage, everything is null and void - "you bought it sold as seen, and we gave you money off" - Money off was to replace a broker media screen, not replace half the bloody engine!

I found an advert on AutoTrader for a car from these guys. In the photos it looked good and we were happy to go through with buying it. When we were planning on going to check the car we were asked for a deposit which we paid. Once we arrived after travelling for hours from Scotland I saw the car was not like it was in the photos and was quite a mess. When checking under the bonnet it was messed up and you could barely tell what part was meant to be what. First I did say I am still willing to take the car if given at a lower price as the car was not worth the high price originally put at however they did not agree to this so I kindly left. The next day I sent a message asking for the deposit back since we are not buying the car however they said that it is non refundable. This was not told to me when they asked for the refund and was not written anywhere on the advert. I called them to enquire about this and first nobody would answer the phone for a significant amount of time and when I managed to get hold of someone nobody was willing to listen and they told me to check the website. That website had a completely different address to where their actual garage was which indicated that it was not even their website. When you search them on Google a different company comes up which has good reviews leading people to believe this company is good when it is actually different. Because of this that company has also faced issues. I then tried writing a review on AutoTrader however that review would not show up. Instead a number of positive reviews went up this same day. I scrolled through the reviews and found that whenever a negative review would go up either that day or within a few days several positive ones would be posted as if to cover up the negative one. On no other days would reviews be posted, just those. This shows how these people write a bunch of good reviews themselves to try and seem good as well as taking credit from the good reviews of the company that shows up when you try find these people on Google. Now with my reviews on AutoTrader not going through and these people refusing to answer the phone or reply to my messages I am running out of options. Their customer service is appalling and this is a very clear fraud and scam. Similar situations with these guys have happened to quite a few people I have spoken to and I hope that somehow these people will listen or at least other people will be warned and never even think of buying through them.

Scammers with scrap cars, bought a 2015 car, lasted 2 weeks before chain snapped, no help or warranty from seller. Steer clear from these clowns

I recently bought a car. I must say, I'm really enjoying it. The whole experience was great. Ali was my contact person. Ash also assisted me throughout the process. I recently bought a 2020 Toyota Highlander. Its, in condition. The car runs smoothly. Both the interior and exterior are spotless. The staff, at the dealership was fantastic.

I decided to go with this dealership because I liked the car they had and saw that they had ratings on Google. I arrived at around 4pm took the car for a test drive and Ash efficiently handled all the paperwork so that I could be on my way by 6pm. I must say, I'm really pleased, with how everything turned out.

I decided to purchase a owned vehicle instead of a brand new one. Given that I was buying it from another state and wouldn't have the chance to see the car in person until I picked it up the seller was really focused on ensuring an trustworthy transaction. To my delight when I finally saw the car it matched my expectations perfectly.

This is my third car in 6 years. I purchased my third car from Modern Classic cars 🚘 and this was the best place ever. I did not wait around all day long Ash and his team had me in and out very quickly.

They truly work with speed and professionalism. The service I received was, beyond my expectations. Not was the car thoroughly cleaned. All necessary maintenance was also taken care of. I had some trouble with dealers. I really appreciated my experience at modern classic cars. I came in knowing which car I wanted. They guided me through the process away. I was able to test drive the car and leave with my BMW in a few hours! I will definitely recommend this dealership to my family, for car purchases. The service was amazing. The workers were extremely nice!

Fabulous from start to finish from me enquiring about the car to the day of purchase I can fault them one bit Even when on the way home a warning sign came up regarding the engine go in touch straight away and was advised to bring the car back when I can so they can have a look at it and advise me what this could be Ash was amazing with helping me sort everything in fact they all was I know any issues I can pick up the phone and speak to them not a problem I purchased a lovely Mini and I absolutely love it thanks guys
