Avoid NTaco Limited – Unprofessional, Substandard Work, and Threatening Behaviour

If you’re considering NTaco Limited for your structural engineering needs – don’t. Learn from our experience.

We contacted them via Checkatrade on 19th February regarding a house extension and loft conversion. For over a month, all communication went through Checkatrade, including arranging a site visit on 15th March. Then, on 8th April (already 8 working days past their promised deadline), they suddenly said they “don’t communicate through this platform” and insisted on switching to email.

The site visit was rescheduled several times, and when it finally happened, the engineer was an hour late. They sent a young, inexperienced employee who had to walk 40 minutes from the nearest train station carrying tools. We even drove him back ourselves.

We were clear from the start: we wanted to avoid unnecessary steelwork. This was completely ignored in the final plans, which were full of excessive and expensive steel – the easiest option for them, but not what we requested. A second opinion (from a qualified professional in our family) confirmed the steel was not necessary.

They promised a 7–10 working day turnaround. What we got was a 23 working day delay (almost 5 weeks past due date), despite four broken promises that we’d receive it “tomorrow.” We had to chase repeatedly, and only received the drawings after being pressured into full payment—despite the delays and failure to deliver what was agreed.

The quality of work was shocking. They overlaid structural drawings on top of the architect’s plans with no regard for scale or usability. Their own report contained a disclaimer advising not to trust their measurements and to confirm them on-site. When we challenged the plans, they offered revisions—but only for an extra fee. At that point, trust had completely broken down.

It didn’t end there. As we progressed to the roofing phase, we discovered the joist calculations were incorrect. Our builder advised that the only options were to replace the entire roof or reinforce the structure—both costly and avoidable. We are now looking into another structural engineer to step in and correct NTaco’s work but are yet to rectify the issues. Their verdict? It was the sort of work they’d expect from a “cowboy outfit,” not qualified professionals.

After sharing our experience, we found other similar reviews on Checkatrade – including reports of ignored refund requests and a complete lack of response when problems arise. So if you’re reading glowing reviews and wondering “how bad can it be?” – this is how bad - read below, it gets worse.

NTaco wasted our time, delayed our project, caused unnecessary stress and expense, and delivered subpar work that someone else is now going to have to fix leaving us out of pocket.

We have since received threatening phone calls and WhatsApp messages from Alex at NTaco. After refusing to remove this review, he offered money – calling it a “gesture of goodwill” – but made it clear over the phone that payment was conditional on deleting the review. When we declined, he became aggressive and threatened to sue us.

We have screenshots of the messages before he cowardly deleted them and have filed an additional complaint with Checkatrade. We are also escalating this to Trading Standards.

Be warned – this is not just about poor service. It’s about a company that tries to silence honest feedback through intimidation. Avoid NTaco Limited at all costs.

We used ntaco for a loft conversion in Richmond and were really happy with how everything went. The team was easy to deal with, very responsive, and got the drawings and calculations back quickly. Everything was in line with building control, and they helped explain things clearly when we had questions. Would definitely recommend them if you’re doing structural work.

We wanted to do a structural check of the floor to see if it could support the extension of the loft. We were provided also a structural report for some cracks on the wall

We were provided with a complete plan and description of the situation so that we could implement it.

The report and drawings were delivered on time and with full clarity for the builders.

We recently used Ntaco to carry out a structural inspection and report for our house sale. A wall and chimney had been removed by the previous owners, and our buyer’s mortgage provider requested a structural engineer’s report to confirm the work was safe and compliant.

From the start, the team was great. Booking was really easy through their online calendar, and communication was quick and clear. The engineer turned up on time, explained what they were checking, and was very thorough during the visit; even went into the loft to confirm load paths and check if any supports were in place.

The report was detailed, well-written, and delivered within three days. It covered everything the mortgage company needed and gave us peace of mind that the work done was structurally sound. We also appreciated how professional but friendly the whole process felt; not overly technical, just clear advice and great service.

I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend Ntaco to anyone needing structural advice or reports.

After booking appointment a week in advance and paying a £210 deposit, Ntaco decided to cancel my appointment 90 minutes before they were due. They said they would refund my deposit but when I put my review on Check a Trade they rang me and became abusive threatening to hold onto my deposit money until the review was removed. Even when the owner had confirmed he had refunded my money he actually hadn't and had lied about that as well. Eventually when I got my deposit back I wrote my review and this time the owner of Ntaco tried to offer an incentive for me to remove the review which goes against Check A Trade standards and well most standards! That email has been forwarded to them to investigate.
Ntaco also like to threaten their customers with Legal action if you dare to let customers know how they conduct business.
If you get good service then write a good review, if not don't threaten your customers because it looks bad, don't cancel appointments and let your customers down.
