I’m posting this to warn others about the safety risks I experienced with my Outbound Extreme trailer.
I have owned my Outbound Extreme for about a year and was initially very happy with it. However, during a multi‑state trip, the trailer suffered two major structural failures that could have caused a crash.
1. Tongue separation:
The tongue with the factory 24” extension partially separated during highway travel. This is a critical structural component, and its failure created an immediate safety hazard.
2. Suspension/frame failure:
A few days later, a leaf‑spring bracket tore away from the frame, ripping part of the frame with it. The opposite side was close to failing as well. If this had happened at speed, the trailer could have become uncontrollable.
Both failures required emergency welding just to get home safely.
I documented everything for Outbound Trailers, including a verified tongue weight of 230 lbs and a total trailer weight of 1800 lbs, both within their published limits. Despite this, they dismissed the failures as “way overloaded” without explaining how my measured weights were outside spec.
Their only proposed solution was selling me $332 in hanger supports and telling me to bring the trailer to their factory. No investigation, no acknowledgment of the safety implications, and no concern for the fact that these failures occurred during normal use.
Based on my experience, I believe buyers should be aware of the potential safety risks and the lack of concern if a structural issue occurs.
