My second book, A Silent Sorrow, has been published by Pegasus Publishers. My experience has led to the unusual step, for me, of writing a review for TrustPilot. I will attempt to detail my experience in a balanced, factual way and allow any reader to draw their own conclusions.
For context, A Silent Sorrow is my second book. My first, A Soldier’s Story, was published by Little Brown. The first had excellent commercial potential the second less so. Hence, I was delighted when Pegasus contacted me to say they would publish the book, albeit with a hybrid contract.
I won’t go into the details of the production process. Suffice to say Pegasus produced a very good book; a blurb which described the story well, a cover which is striking and well produced and a book which has received many positive comments. Thank you.
Thereafter my experience is, to put it mildly, disappointing.
I was advised the launch date of the book on 15 December 2025, six and a half weeks before it was due to be released. I was told the book had been sent to the publicity department. I was informed of the release date of my first book seven months ahead of time and worked, proactively, with a publicist for the three months up to the set date. I was assured that the publicity team were on the case, allowing me to maximise sales of my book. They would contact local bookshops and assess whether any wished to work with me on book signings, launch events etc. Eleven weeks after book launch, I am receiving emails from friends and family around the country to say they cannot get the book in their local bookshops. My local bookshops not only are not working with me they have never heard of the book, don’t stock it and don’t know how to get it (I’m talking Waterstones and others here).
I provided the publicity team with the requested photograph – nothing has appeared. I sent a book commendation from a famous UK actress with a social media following of nearly 300,000 to four people at Pegasus including publicity – it hasn’t been utilised. That said, they have sent the person in question a book free of charge and a post has appeared on her Instagram page, which is a positive. The reality is they will have limited resources so will focus on the books with standard contracts where they have paid for the rights and expect the volumes. So, disappointing, not what I was told or expected but it is what it is.
My main concern is, one which I find totally unacceptable, I paid an additional £500 for a publicity pack. Three weeks after launch I had nothing and the momentum was lost. I asked for the return of the £500 and received 50 bookmarks and flyers. I was promised Flyers (printed copies and digital), Bookmarks (printed copies and digital), Posters (printed copies and digital), Press Release (digital), Social Media Banners (digital). The order for posters was submitted 3 March. As of today, 16 April, nothing. I have not asked the team to produce social media banners. Yes, I may still receive the poster; yes, they may send digital copies of what they have produced but the book has been out for nearly three months and the ship has sailed. It is, in my mind, perfectly reasonable to expect a publicity pack to be ready to support a book launch. Three months later it’s next to useless. I’m afraid I have to be blunt and say I feel misled and totally ripped off.
In summary, I have my book. The process, whilst frustrating, delivered the goods. Thereafter, appalling. If my experience of the publicity pack is typical then don’t bother. Any author must make their own choice. Seek a standard contract and if that doesn’t work take a hybrid contract with your eyes open. It will not get the same attention, that has to be a commercial reality. My contract stipulates Pegasus has first refusal on my next two books. I would still like to have a positive relationship with them with a standard contract. I wouldn’t go anywhere near a hybrid contract. If the book isn’t a commercial proposition I would have it printed locally at a fraction of the cost. As the saying goes, you pays your money, you takes your choice.
I have provided this review to Pegasus before uploading and have not received a response.

The Pegasus team treated me with respect and kept the promised deadlines. Maybe I expected a more personal feedback.

I strongly advise against working with Pegasus Publishers. They have breached their contract with me. For over a year and a half, they promised illustrations, but I’ve only received two draft covers. They only reply to my emails if I either call out their terrible service or threaten to take them to small claims court. Otherwise, they ignore me completely. Meanwhile, they continue to send monthly invoices, threatening further action if I don’t pay. This is a vanity press—they do not care about your book; they care only about their money-making schemes. Stay far away.

Pegasus Publishers is the only publishing company that checked my script and decided to publish it. I have reached to many publishers at the same time and all responded that they can’t publish it. My estimation is that they didn’t like how objective, Truth-Defender my book is. Now I am very confident about my book: “We Are Too Connected To Be Divided In This World” (as readers you can check it for yourselves as soon as it comes out), and the best way to express my gratitude to Pegasus Publishers is to say this truth because they do a good job like no other publisher that I contacted did it for me. I find it to be excellent for me as a new author and excellent for them for publishing scripts like mine. It shows that they have got taste and guts to publish good books.

Lesley made my experience awesome. She accommodated me and my excesses 😀. I'm so satisfied with everything and don't regret anything. Pegasus publishers are not like other fake publishers that promise and never deliver. These guys make sure you win.

Pegasus Publishers were very supportive and professional throughout my publishing journey. The only challenge I faced was a slight delay in feedback on one of my chapters, but once I reached out, the team responded promptly and resolved it. Overall, I felt well-guided and would recommend them to new authors.

Absolute scam artists, this company offered to do the artwork as part of their package and provided some absolutely pathetic Ai generated cartoons, nothing related to what was asked for, they promised real art and then failed to ever make changes to the art or improve it, breaching the contract.
After years we gave up with them as they never responded to emails or calls.
Now a year later they send an email with the audacity to request full payment of the contract.
They havent got a hope in hell of ever winning that one in court, as we have recorded all the emails and calls. Stay away, scam artists.

If it were possible to give one star out of a hundred, I would give one.

Pegasus Publishing is a game changer! As a self-published author who's never dealt with a publisher before, they assisted me through the process of polishing my novel and with marketing strategies. I highly recommend them for any author seeking to get their books published.

Pegasus Publishers are, in my opinion, a fraudulent company who prey upon innocent writers whose only dream is to have their manuscript published in a professional manner. I paid 2600 pounds and I haven't received one thing that could be construed as publishable back from them, not one iota. Please be very careful of this company as they will rip you off and not pay a refund. They also attempted to falsely state that I had breached contract several times even though I proved this was totally false

They take an age to reply to emails, mostly not even having the decency to even reply. They told me my complimentary copies would be sent out and I had to call them weeks later to chase it up. I've ordered copies for myself and I'm now been told that it will take weeks to get my books, despite the fact that the publishing date will be passed by weeks. I am extremely unhappy with the service provided by Pegasus.

Complete waste of money. I would have been better off self-publishing. Lack of communication during the entire process- I had to keep chasing everything up. Editing was atrocious (I wondered if English was their 2nd language). I had to correct mistakes made and edit it 3x myself. I wrote the blurb myself after theirs was literally nothing to do with the book. Marketing was almost non-existent. They didn't promote my novel at all- no contact with bookstores, libraries, etc of the list they requested. Wrong price on Amazon Australia for weeks.

I particularly liked the speed of their responses — I never felt left waiting.
