I bought a Ford Transit 250 from Penske…
I bought a Ford Transit 250 from Penske auction and the vehicle seems to be just as stated and very good, The people that I spoke to and emailed with seemed very nice and helpful. On the site its says no hidden fees but that is not true. I was charged a $799.00 administrative fee, $4.00 electronic processing fee, $2.00 temporary tag fee and Other taxes $40.15 I am not sure what that is. so be aware that there are fees that I can not find disclosed anywhere. I keep seeing "pay what you bid no buyers fees or hidden fees".
The only other thing is that they will call to make sure that everything is good and then try to pressure you into buying the warranty and when you dont they seem to get a bit less interested in you.

STRONG WARNING: Penske Used Trucks Are NOT Road-Ready
I purchased a 2020 Freightliner M2 (VIN: from Penske, and this has been one of the most costly and disruptive business decisions I’ve made.
Within three trips of purchase, the truck experienced check engine lights, emissions derate, limp mode, and total power loss, making it unusable for commercial work. This was not normal wear-and-tear — the truck failed almost immediately.
Less than two weeks after purchase, I was forced to activate an NTP extended warranty, which should never be necessary on a truck represented as road-ready. The truck was also taken to **Freightliner**, yet the issue still was not resolved.
Independent repair documentation later confirmed major aftertreatment/emissions failures, including DPF replacement, added exhaust hardware, and active fault codes even after regeneration. These failures do not develop in three trips. They indicate a pre-existing condition that existed before the sale.
The situation worsened when the repair estimate increased after initial inspection, adding exhaust components and confirming persistent emissions faults. This strongly suggests the truck was **not properly cleared before delivery.
Vehicle history raises additional concerns:
Prior accident (Dec 10, 2023 – left rear impact)
Open safety recalls involving steering and windshield systems
Very low annual mileage, consistent with long idle periods that can damage emissions systems
In total, I have suffered over $10,500 in losses, including towing, downtime, missed loads, driver loss, rentals, and out-of-pocket expenses — almost immediately after purchase.
The sale was handled by Brandon B. (sales), with escalation involving Peter S. (management). I wanted a long-term relationship with Penske, but this experience shows buyers absorb the risk when trucks fail right after purchase.
My advice: do not assume Penske used trucks are road-ready. Get an independent inspection, demand written guarantees, or be prepared for downtime and losses. I would not buy from Penske again.
