Good afternoon, thanks for reaching out. The rubber ring is easily removed because it is only designed to be used when using G-SOX on a spinning reel. On a baitcaster the line never touches the tube, so most people would rather not have it. If you are using it on a spinning reel, G-SOX recommends running a bead of instant glue around the outside.
