I have been a member at RCU since about 2011 and I really love them. Before I'd had accounts at Chase and a couple other mainstream banks. Back then I was young and wasn't making a lot, and it really felt like those big corporate banks were trying to squeeze money from me however they could with hidden fees that you can't really dispute because of how powerful they are.

When I opened an account at RCU I was weary, so I specifically asked the manager about hidden fees and overdraft fees and so on. This was at the Santa Rosa branch. They were very patient and transparent with me and they have always been very communicative ever since. It's been well over 10 years now and I really like them. I feel like they really respect and value their members. I feel they treat me like a human instead of a number.

Over the years whenever I've had questions or issues I've messaged them through the online portal in my account and they've always been very prompt and communicative. Even though I don't live in California anymore I still love their service and I am grateful I was able to open an account with them.

Went and signed up for a free checking account, after a few days a representative calls me saying that I need to open a saving account in order to be able to open the checking account and that I had to have over $70 on that saving account to avoid monthly $3 fee. Didn’t see any of that while researching on their website or while opening checking account.

RCU is the most trustworthy bank I’ve ever used. Someone left a review talking about overdraft fees, and as far as my RCU checking/savings and credit account goes, they’ve NEVER imposed an overdraft fee upon me, and I have certainly overdrafted. Not sure what kind of account that person has…

In my experience, Redwood Credit Union makes me feel like they’re really for the people and not out to suck extra money out of me like big banks have. They refund ATM fees, I got a GREAT deal financing my car through their loan service, every time I need to call them with an issue, they’re fast to fix things and are very polite. They’re quick and thorough about protecting your account when they see a potentially fraudulent charge. I love RCU and I couldn’t imagine switching, ever.

For months their mobile and online banking has not been working properly yet nothing has been done. It says a lot about how incompetent the developers are when they unnecessarily made an entirely new unfinished app. Developers haven't updated it since September, the main website is also broken stuck loading just like with the app does. It makes me uncomfortable that such incompetent developers have access to my banking information!

Their use of overdraft fees is completely egregious and I personally think they should be sued for the money they’ve stolen from people who are struggling. If you want to get them on the phone, you’ll sit on hold for hours and they might eventually answer. They might not. I’ve been trying to get them on the phone to get a new debit card for months because I don’t live near a branch anymore and they flagged a charge as fraud. So I’ve basically not used the account in months because I have no card and I can’t get them on the phone.

I love my credit union. I've had account with banks before...before I knew better. RCU has great customer service and pretty competitive auto loans. I've always been able to get really good home loans so I've never had that experience with them. I don't rely on RCU for investment opportunities, but they do offer good financial planning/investment services as well.
