Very friendly service

The conveyancing of the sale of my house went through very quickly and so I looked around for storage until the new house was ready. I used Shurguard because it looked as though it could all be booked online. I started to book a storage unit but had to ring up several times to complete the booking process because the site was not working properly. Emails were duplicated and they even terminated the contract before I had started it. I was thentold that I had to do an ID check. Again, I tried to do it online but after attempting to do so for an hour, I had to travel to the Shurguard site in Dover to do the checks in person, which was extremely inconvenient and time consuming. Whilst there, I asked about ending the contract because it was not clear at all from their terms and conditions how this worked. It was very hard to pin down the staff to get a clear answer and they were quite vague, but they said that I needed 15 days notice during a payment period to end the contract but not when the payment period is at an end at which point no notice is required. I repeated that back to them and they agreed.

I was only able to tell Shurguard on five days before the end of that peiros that I wanted to end the contract and so not have to pay the next £345. They then said that I have to pay the full amount for the month from of £345, even though the 15 day's notice period runs would run iuyt. Their staff did NOT make it clear that I had to pay the full monthly charge even when the payment period was coming to an end and how can they justify charging for the other half of the month when the 15 days' notice runs out? They would not even refund the insurance that I paid.

And then to top it all, after I have removed my furniture and with over 30 days paid for, they rang to ask whether I would use the unit. I refused to say so as to stop them renting it out to someone else in that period. What a bunch of cowboys. AVOID AT ALL COST.

Shurgard, please dont bother with one of your AI generated or copy and paste replies.

Update. About two months after this review someone from Shurguard rang me. They confirmed that the terms and conditions need rewriting because they were difficult to understand and their staff needed retraining. He then went on to ask how much I would accept from them NOT as compensation or recompense, but to take down my negative review. This tells you a lot about the company. AVOID at all costs.

Very helpful and friendly staff. The process was extremely easy with courtesy calls made to see if everything was okay.

Needed emergency storage and it was sorted out in hours.
The site is secure and clean with all the equipment to help fill a unit with two vans of furniture.

Friendly helpful staff in a spotless environment with plenty of good size trolleys to transfer boxes etc. Good variety of unit sizes to choose from.

Offering good deals and clean and secure storage, however hours flexibility could be better in evenings and remind me to cancel when not continuing the contract to avoid unnecessary costs

For a storage unit Newby everything went to plan nice and easy eg reception knew who I was had my lock ready and showed me around with no waiting , I was impresses especially as they did not know what time I was comming. I would have no problem recommending Shirland.
