After completing a new build in the Bay of Islands, New Zealand we soon realised that unless we found a solution to block the sun during the hottest time of the day in our lounge and bedroom, that it was going to make for uncomfortable living.
We have large apex windows, high up in both rooms and realised that blinds were the obvious option. As we had not run power cables to these areas, solar powered, battery-operated apex blinds were our only option.
After a great deal of research, we discovered that the only company that could satisfy all of our requirements was on the other side of the world in the UK.
We were a little concerned about purchasing a product that required such precise measurements from so far away, but we contacted Lindsay Lyle and the team at Sona Shades and our minds were quickly put at ease.
Lindsay is a fantastic communicator, and his response time was exceptional. His knowledge of the product is outstanding.
Lindsay arranged the freight and insurance and our blinds arrived on time and they are now installed.
They look fantastic and they have dramatically improved our living experience.

After looking around for a good apex window blind manufacturer Sona came up as the clear winner. From the initial measuring to the final installation it was a faultless process. The staff are great. In my case the five channel remote wasn't set up quite to my liking so a phone call to John in the technical department, a very knowledgeable chap, he talked me very patiently through a reset for the remote and now all works perfectly. We have had first class service throughout the process of buying the blinds for our large Apex window to their installation. We are absolutely delighted with them. They have transformed the window. Previously we had vertical blinds and very bulky curtains due to the width of the window. Now we have a wonderful streamlined set of blinds.

Sam and his team have been great throughout. They have been very helpful, efficient and professional. We would not hesitate to use the company again and heartily recommend it.

This was our first motorised blind so we spent some time looking at different blind companies' information and asking many many questions. Sam at Sona was always quick, helpful and reassuring. We eventually chose a motorised blind without a frame as we wanted the recess for our 3m x 2m roof light set in to one roof pitch to look clean when the blind is open. It was delivered on time, was simple to install, works smoothly and quietly, and looks great with only about a 5mm gap at each side. The honeycomb fabric has definitely helped to reduce cold downdraughts for a warmer room this winter, and we are looking forward to seeing the benefits of the shade in hot weather next summer.

In early 2025 we moved into a house in the Lake District with a large apex window offering a beautiful view marred by old flappy office type blinds.

We needed something better and were delighted to discover the perfect solution in Sona Shades.

The sales and estimating team were helpful and proactive and we are delighted with the finished result.

It is now a joy to wake up in the morning and press the neat controller and have the blinds swiftly and quietly open and almost disappear, ditto at bedtime in the opposite direction.

We can now sleep at night in the summer months with long daylight hours as the blackout material really does what it says.

We live in France and bought 6 bespoke blinds for some triangle shaped windows. 4 of the blinds were lost in transit. Sona were let down big time by the delivery partner here in France - it was a nightmare. Sona took on all the admin headache and at the same time, manufactured new blinds. They could not have been more helpful or communicative. Amazing customer service is hard to come by these days. Sona are the real deal. I had dealings with Lewis in their customer service team (who was so, so helpful) right up to the owner Sam. Thank you so much. It's when things go wrong that you really get to see what a company is all about. And Sona are about delivering an exceptional customer service. We haven't even fitted the blinds yet, so I'm hoping i’ll be leaving another review here once that’s done! Nonetheless I felt compelled to tell my story….

Great product. Flexible to needs, helpful sales advice and technical staff.

We took on a self measure, self install, on 3 x 4.5m W x 3.5m H, 4 strip, Gable Windows. It was a daunting proposition. However, with a bit of advice and encouragement, plus clear and concise measurement and installation videos, and the measuring check app, we have an excellent end result.

The blinds look fabulous and operate smoothly. We are very happy with the outcome.
