The team took good care of our belongings. I felt very secure while my items were in storage. The owner really cared to do a good job. Experience was positive!

The backend communication about arrival time could use a little work, as more communication in the days leading up to the move would have been helpful. But the movers themselves were great- got everything done within hours, super easy to work with.

DO NOT HIRE SOUTH VANLINES>We spent 30 years in the Military moving every couple of years both domestic and international. This Company gave of the move from Hell. They packed glass ware in wardrobe boxes between our clothes. Dishes were packed 3 and 4 together with no packing between dishes. They caused $6000.00 damage and offered $60.00 in settlement.

They did everything I asked and resolved any issues quickly. I have no reservations about recommending them or using them again.

This company is a scam. Do not hire them. They quoted me $2800 to move a two bdr apartment. The day of the move, they came three hours late and then they said it would actually cost $8,500 (yes, three times as much) to move. When I told them no, they became aggressive. Never again!

This is the story of our TERRIBLE experience with South Van Lines:
My son and I were moving from Yonkers, NY to Garland TX and were collecting estimates from several moving companies. I had narrowed it down to 4 different companies – and obviously chose the wrong one. Two companies came out and looked at our apartment before submitting their estimates. South Van Lines did not come out and formulated an estimate based on my description of what we were moving. In the original estimates, South Van Lines was the highest and I informed them that I was going with someone else. Their salesperson immediately lowered their estimate and pleaded for the business. I told them that I was still inclined to go with another particular company and South Van Lines lowered their estimate again (even though they were already the lowest at that point). I researched them online and everything appeared in order, so I gave them my business. I obviously made a terrible mistake and I should have seen the red flags.
This was a very simple move. It was a one bedroom, 800 sq foot apartment. On moving day, we stacked everything that was to be moved in the front room so that the movers would not have to deal with the other areas of the apartment. The movers arrived the morning of 5/21, lifted three boxes and instantly decided that everything was too heavy and they would need more money. They outright refused to move our bedframes, shelving units and folding tables. The only items they agreed to move were 35 boxes, a desk and a flat screen television. AND to do this, they needed nearly $800 MORE than the written estimate.
I was livid, but I was at their mercy. It was MOVING DAY and it was too late to make any other arrangements. They had me over a barrel and they knew it. I believe now that this was their plan all along. Undercut the other companies so that I would go with them, knowing full well that they would raise their price on moving day when I would have no other options. I had no choice but to pay the extra money and ended up throwing away the bedframes, shelving units and folding tables which would not fit in my car. And, as some kind of depraved parting gift, the movers broke the apartment’s storm door on their way out, the value of which ended up being deducted from my security deposit by the landlord.
The movers arrived at my destination in Texas 5 days after the agreed date, which I completely understood. I know things happen on the road, plus I was told they would be changing crews and trucks a couple of times during the process. What I DIDN’T understand was the condition of our belongings. Ten of the boxes were wet and the items inside were soaked and many were irreparably damaged. Several boxes were stacked upside down on the truck – even though these were store-bought moving boxes with the upside clearly marked. This resulted in additional damage.
Here’s the kicker: my next door neighbor owns a warehouse and he brought his industrial scale over to weigh all the items that were moved. South Van Lines moved 2139 pounds of merchandise for us. The written estimate was for 2307 pounds. So they charged us $800 MORE for moving nearly 200 pounds LESS than the written agreement…and managed to ruin and/or damage many of our belongings. This was a nightmare and I don’t think there’s any question that I was scammed.
I will say that the two movers who delivered the goods in Texas were very nice, unlike the two guys that picked up our stuff in Yonkers…who were complete jerks. Other than the demeanor of the two people in Texas, I just can’t find anything positive to say about South Van Lines. They talk a good game and are very aggressive during the bidding process but, if my move is any indication, they are terrible at their jobs.
Hopefully South Van Lines will not do this to anyone else. They make the entire industry look bad. I know that my family will never use “professional” movers again.

I had this moving company came to my house and moved all my furniture and boxes they did professional and amazing wrap to all my furniture and they re-tapes all my boxes definitely I will use them again thank you for the amazing work
