Wentspire Cardiff hospital don’t go there for bilateral cataract surgery…
Went for bilateral cataract surgery with Spire hospital Cardiff.
The anaesthetist was very unprofessional when frying to give anaesthetic. He was unable to perform. It’s in his usual way due to my right eye shutting autonomically he began shouting telling me to open my eyes on many occasions also stating that it is 35 years as an anaesthetist he had never encountered this problem before and that you’d have to try to at least tie my eye another way which he managed to perform. I had to ask the anaesthetist to stop shouting at me as my eye closing was due to an autonomic reflex. As a registered nurse I have never seen such unprofessional behaviour in my career.
by a doctor. He left me feeling anxious, scared and very angry.
If you pay over £6.000 you expect a bit of respect and the care that you pay for not to be shouted at by an anaesthetist. .
The consultant surgeon however was very professional and treated me with dignity and respect and carried out the procedure in a professional way.
I also had to put a complaint in before surgery after not even been given an appointment date or time, no email or letter. When this was brought up with a telephonist she became quite rude and then the call ended ? Did they put the phone down on me
Also I had the pleasure of meeting a very officious Nurse who carried out my pre assessment for surgery as advised by my consultant on the day of my initial appointment so I would not have to complete at a later date. I was quite surprised that’s a receptionist from Spire Hospital in Cardiff rang me to an arrange a pre-op assessment for my surgery. There is a real problem with communication at this hospital although they were very quick to get my payment processed as soon as possible. I wish they would’ve been as quick to furnish me with all the information that I required for the operation.
You need to sort out the poor standard of care given to some of your staff and the anaesthetist especially.
