I recently received my Uma plum blossom kokedama bonsai. It did loose its leaves due to the stress of travel. it has fresh new growth and has grown new branches and new leaves. And It’s strong. Love the shape of my bonsai. Yuki sent me instructions how to soak the moss ball and how to take care of my new bonsai. I love my new bonsai and my experience with SpiritJapan.

The Bonsai on the site looks amazing. The price is also very fair. This is where anything good ends. First off, it takes almost a month to get your Bonsai. During that long shipping time, the Bonsai sits in the dark, slowly dying. Of course, the website and policies state that the Bonsai can sit in the dark up to 16 days. What I received after almost 30 days was a Bonsai that looked horrible. The leaves were shriveled up and dead. Within two days, all the leaves fell off the Bonsai. The tops of most stems had died. I paid for what I saw in the picture and received a dead twig. I went back and forth with Yuki via email. All they could do was give you the standard language (created by their lawyers). Here is what to do to care for and try to revive the Bonsai. That is great if you ordered a 6-month project to try to revive a dead Bonsai. I did not buy a dead Bonsai; I purchased a lovely maple tree. Yuki shut me down after a week of trying to get some resolution. I ended up paying $60 for a dead Bonsai. Yuki and The Spirit of Japan couldn't care less. This was one of the worst purchases I have made. I lost my money and have no Bonsai. I would seriously avoid buying anything from The Spirit of Japan, knowing that it will take a month to get to you. I am so disappointed with their service and willingness to work with you after they sent a dead Bonsai. Find a local place online to buy your Bonsai. DO NOT buy anything with The Spirit of Japan. The only spirit you get is a DEAD one.

From time of order, I was given updates and instructions on how to care for my Wisteria bonsai when it arrives. I was given expectations especially on what the plant may look like once I receive it.

When the product arrived (after about 3 weeks), it was just the moss ball and the one lonely branch. I have to admit I thought it was dead. I immediately called Spirit of Japan and I received immediate attention. I was given confident specific instructions on how to care and remove the wrappings, keep the moss ball moist. The rest was history. I am a very happy, a well cared for customer. My bonsai has grown to be quite a showcase and I got myself a beautiful half egg-shell pot for it. I kept in touch with Yuki and sent her pictures of my bonsai, Day 1, Day 15 and how it looks like now. I will purchase from them again. I felt to be a very important customer, really taken care of. For a long way shipment, I just had to trust that it will get here intact and it did. They are a legit vendor. Thank you so much for the knowledge and care you've given me.

Spirit of Japan have given us a fabulous service from start to finish. The order arrived promptly and well packaged. We are delighted that our wisteria is now in full leaf now, but think we will have to wait until next season to see it flower. We have used the website chat facility several times and have always received a promptly and concise reply with the appropriate advise. Would highly recommend Spirit of Japan.

Placed my order 16th March 2026 and today is 28th April 2026.. Still nothing.. Contacted 15th asking to see what happened.. Replied saying posted but they see something happened etc etc.. Usual trash.. Then contacted last week again.. No answer anymore.. Complete disaster.. A big scam.. DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY..

I ordered a Wisteria Bonsai on February 7, and it arrived on March 8 looking like a dead twig. After watering it and giving it time to adjust, it starting showing strong new growth by April 4. Since then, it’s been thriving. I reached out to customer service for advice since it was growing quickly and becoming quite tall and lanky, I received a prompt and helpful response. I’m very pleased with both the plant and the excellent customer service.

My tree arrived quicker than expected.
It was very well packaged and protected and looks great.
Lost a few leaves in the shipping but that’s to be expected for such a long journey and was explained on the website, so I was expecting that.
Love the growing guide on site and sent by email before it arrived, which is very helpful.
Customer service is excellent, very polite and helpful.

I ordered a wisteria bonsai it arrived better than I expected I arrive in a dormit state with new buds once it was watered and adjust it produced strong new growth. It doing very well. The plant was larger than I expected. The moss ball was size of large orange.

Tree looked nothing like the photos. It arrived completely dead after 11 days in

transit.

When I contacted the company to replace it, they insisted I pay 50% of the total cost just to ship a new one-which is unreasonable given the condition it arrived in. Every attempt to reach support was met with automated responses, no real help.

Would not recommend buying from here. The pictures look great, but what you actually receive is a dead twig wrapped in moss.

Got scammed. What I ordered and what I received were entirely different. I ordered two plants and received a small bag of seeds. The product description indicated plants, not seeds. No response from customer service.
Don’t trust this company.

I was quite skeptical about purchasing a bonsai tree online but, the price was great, and I took a chance. My wisteria bonsai started sprouting just a few days after I started watering it daily. It reached about two feet in height within just a couple of weeks! I reached out to customer service regarding trimming, and they responded in a timely manner with valuable feedback. I'm so excited I get to grow and care for my bonsai, as well as have help available when needed. Thank you, Spirit of Japan!!!

Be carefull - if you receive a dead plant and complain and contact them - they will block you from their facebook page ! No accountability at all - if you are thinking on buying - stay away !

Only half my order arrived. They claim no responsibility for if your order doesn't arrive. No proof of delivery. Would not order again.

Spirit of Japan have great and healthy specimens. I live in Australia and the ones that I bought (Wisteria, Sakura Cherry Blossoms, Gingko) are all healthy and thriving. Ume plum is currently dormant. I have ordered Azalea and Momiji and excited to have them soon. Yuki from Spirit of Japan is very helpful with her advices too. They package their bonsais well and once you follow their instructions it will definitely thrive. I am pleased with all of the bonsais that I received. They give me a sense of peace, calm, and tranquility. Thank you Spirit of Japan. I will definitely keep ordering from you! :-)

Was concerned after ordering about delay and what condition the bonsai would be in when it arrived BUT no need to have worried the tree arrived in good condition and within a month was growing well, amazing

I feel like there is a real person at the other end of the line when I have a question. When I wondered about the logistics and legal issues surrounding international issues, they responded quickly and thoroughly. More importantly, the little cherry tree I received arrived in excellent condition, with healthy buds ready to leaf out, and no damage to the woody parts of the plant. The moss ball was green and thriving, and my little tree is thriving and full of new growth, enough so that I've had to prune her back a bit. So happy with this company!

Its a scam.

Not from Japan and not a plant. It is seed and chances are not even the Japanese cherry blossom variety.

Recently ordered a Kokedama red Maple. Hello it was an understandable amount of time spirit of Japan kept in contact..

Description matches the product and the instructions they sent before the product arrived helped me understand how to unpack it and get it ready to start it growing season in Seattle.

They said it would take 2 to 3 weeks to see the tree show some signs of life after the winter time and then packaging and shipping across the Pacific.

It’s been two weeks and some of the new growth is coming back to life. I’m glad they described things the way they did cause otherwise I would’ve wondered what the heck was going on. :-)

Once I receive the tree, I reread the instructions and gathered a few things that I’ve missed in the first reading while I was waiting for the tree to arrive.

It’s great to see the trunk of the tree with some girth of a tree that’s 3 to 5 years old, which is what they advertise.

Truly, a unique addition to my very small bonsai collection. I’m just not in a place to be able to take on a lot of trees, but was such a great experience. I think I might order another specimen soon

Truly, exceptional service. I purchased a bonsai a few months ago in which it did not survive the dead winter. They replaced the tree and sent me a replacement with no question. Excellent customer service.
