I booked transportation through TaxiService.com because they advertised a vehicle that could accommodate 6 passengers and 6 pieces of luggage. Before the trip, I called and was told we would be picked up in a Suburban or similar full-size vehicle capable of handling our group and luggage.
Instead, the company dispatched an UberXL, which arrived as a Toyota Highlander. While the driver was courteous and professional, the vehicle simply did not have enough room for 6 passengers and 6 suitcases. We were forced to pack luggage throughout the cabin, with passengers holding bags on their laps during the ride.
Because we were heading to the airport, we had no choice but to make it work in order to catch our flight. What should have been a smooth and stress-free start to our travel day became a very stressful experience for our family of six.
To make matters worse, I later discovered that the service appeared to have simply booked an UberXL on my behalf. The UberXL fare I had considered booking directly was approximately $47, while TaxiService.com charged about $115 for the same ride. Had I known I was paying more than double the cost for an UberXL—and not receiving the larger vehicle that was promised—I would have booked transportation myself.
My issue is not with the driver, who did the best he could with the vehicle provided. My issue is with the misleading expectations regarding both the vehicle size and the value of the service. If you're traveling with a larger family or multiple pieces of luggage, I would be very cautious about relying on the vehicle descriptions provided during booking.
