The Open Space is a real gem. Sam and the team have built a workshop that encourages passion, discipline and the shared hunger to develop the craft, with any egos being left at the door! A Birmingham workshop that encapsulates the beauty of Brum — to be yourself, welcome others, and bring resilience. 10/10.

I can say this is one of the best acting workshops based in Birmingham! Everyone here is wholesome and ready to share their work and learn more on how to improve, grow and gain confidence! Highly recommended.

Loved the environment, the vulnerabilities, the people. Everything is so open and fresh and everything an actor would be looking for to try out new choices, take new risks and experiment with their styles.

After a few months of attending The Open Space, I can vouch that it's the place for acting classes in Brum! Whether you're at the start of your acting journey or keeping the tools sharp, there's space for you to grow, learn and meet like-minded people. Working on scripts as a collective keeps you active in the space. There is no pressure to be something - just bring the energy and do the work! Everyone's take and opinions are valid and welcomed. I can't recommend it enough! X

the open space has been the perfect place for me to stay in the groooove of acting & it's craft. sam's techniques and exercises have helped me & others push boundaries in the best way possible. it's also a great space to meet like-minded individuals! whether you're getting up & putting yourself in the scene or contributing to the discussion around the scene & sharing ideas, there's room for everyone to be involved!

Open Space describes it perfectly - this is an encouraging and accessible class for actors that challenges you to be more open and connect with the source material. Sam’s guidance through a variety of Meisner based techniques and scene study is perfect for any actor - experienced or new. Always enjoy the classes and feel artistically nourished after - book on and get involved!

The most welcoming, supportive space alongside great teaching and direction. I could not recommend Open Space more. I’ll be returning as soon as I’m back in Birmingham!

Attended my first open space workshop last week and I am already excited to book more in with them! I have had to temporally move back to the midlands from London and was so pleased to have found a space where I can continue to learn, grown and explore my craft. It is so important to have spaces like this for the artist to be around other creatives so we can continue to play and honour the text. We worked on a great script within a supportive environment! Left the session feeling BUZZED from the infectious energy in that room! I will be back for more! Gem x

I absolutely love these classes and always sign up for them whenever I can! Prior to joining these classes, I worked with Sam at the Kingdom Drama School where he taught the Birmingham branch, and while Kingdom Drama no longer runs in Brum, Sam has created a much needed space for Birmingham actors at Open Space Theatre. I love the structures of the class, we jump straight into the scene work after a quick warm up. It really is a safe space to experiment, take on healthy feedback and adjust our performances in a way that can really help us learn and grow as actors, without any pressure either! Can’t recommend enough so defo sign up when you can!!!

I’ve been attending The Open Space workshops for around a year now and love each and every week! I find it’s a great platform for building your confidence, working your creative muscles and keeping yourself in tune with what makes you tick in the acting world. Sam is great at nurturing a supportive environment and making sure everyone is welcome no matter what experience you have ❤️.

Good acting classes are hard to come by, especially in Birmingham. The Open Space classes, are a real game changer! Sam’s classes get rid of any doubts and encourage us to get up and fail with nothing to prove. A safe space where you can engage with other actors and learn from each other. Vital for any actor trying to hone their craft.

I highly recommend this class to any actor from the midlands and afar.

Open Space is a great place to play, experiment and exercise your talents as an actor.

An incredibly well run class where actors are encouraged to give collaborative input and contribution to improve each other. The better prepared you are for each class increases your capability of growing to the best of your ability, however even when I have chosen to sit out and watch for an entire session I have still left with gems I can add to my acting arsenal!

Initially I was apprehensive about joining a class as I had never been to one and didn’t know what to expect. It had been some time since I’d “been in the room”.

The Open Space has been an absolute gift; I’ve met so many wonderful people, unlocked new skills, explored new techniques and really got back in to the nitty gritty of what it is to be an actor. It’s such a free and pure space that I’d highly recommend to anyone!

Upon graduating drama school in London I was worried I wouldn’t be able to find an affordable space in Birmingham to continue exploring craftwork. It’s all in the name - an open space for actors to have a play. No competition or ego - just a generous group of people enjoying the craft as well as offering constructive but fair feedback. I definitely recommend booking a session If you’re searching for a community of actors in Birmingham to work with. No one is forced to get up and work either. I’ve known Sam for many years too and he knows how to hold a space where the work is taken seriously but held lightly.

Open Space is EXACTLY what it says on the tin. Of all the workshops I’ve attended (from London to Manchester), I genuinely feel this has been the most beneficial for me as an actor working on his craft. It’s a place I can show up to and take risks I wouldn’t usually feel comfortable making in auditions (with zero judgment and honest/helpful feedback). Sam Baker-Jones does a great job of creating an environment that is respectful as well as professional-feeling. His redirection and takes on the thought process of it all- really makes for an informative and collaborative experience. So massive respect for that!

Genuinely recommend it to every actor I’ve spoken to and I will continue to do so.
