It's certainly cheaper than some online meal options like Simmer, but you can see why it's affordable. The food is quite bland, reminiscent of hospital food. I'm not dissing the NHS; they do an excell... Toon meer

Be Realistic
So I would normally be in a self catering lodge, however this time around I settled for en-suite accommodation to keep the price reasonable. I do have access to a microwave and so the hunt for meals started. I came across amongst others the gym kitchen. So as a retired Sports Consultant I was intrigued. Against other brands it really did appear that they had put a lot of effort in creating a meal to fit a cause. So let me offer you a honest review - are they home cooking, well that would depend on your talent, I’m a good cook so not quite. But I will tell you that the 4 I’ve eaten, have been adequate in portion size, reasonable to good in taste and worth the expense. It seems to me that In my experience, they are healthier and in many cases tastier than most junk/fast food options. So there you have it - Bon appetite
Please do not buy their meals
Please do not buy their meals! Really disappointing experience with The Gym Kitchen. I discovered a dead fly in the meal after I had eaten most of it, which was pretty shocking. Food safety and quality control clearly not in place.
Honest review of two meal produced from the gym kitchen.
My wife and I recently ordered two dishes – the chicken tikka and the salt and pepper chicken – and ended up sharing both so we could try a bit of everything. Unfortunately, the experience was quite disappointing.
Both dishes lacked flavour and tasted quite bland overall. On top of that, the salt level seemed extremely high, which made the food difficult to enjoy. For dishes like these, you would normally expect well-balanced seasoning and a richer taste, but that wasn’t the case here.
Another concern was the quality of the chicken and ingredients used. When ordering chicken dishes, you expect a certain standard in terms of freshness, preparation, and overall quality. Based on this experience, it raises questions about the ingredients and cooking process.
It would be reassuring to know what quality checks and standards are in place for the food, particularly regarding the sourcing of the chicken, ingredient quality, and how seasoning levels are managed. Greater transparency around food quality and preparation standards would certainly help build customer confidence.
Labelled as Gym Kitchen , should be labelled 1800"s gruel
I have had 3 of their "meals" and they have all stated the same! No matter what it was labelled , and they seem to go overboard with the peas, the chicken is a tasteless white meat that even stays white even when supposedly part of a Korma! After the last one I had to have a strong Coffee to get rid of the taste, which was a mixture of boiled carrots and boiled cabbage! Korma? That food had never seen a Korma!
Tasteless
Tasteless. Literally tates of nothing. Really bland. The chicken is also quite rubbery. Needs alot of improvement. Especially for the price. Quite poor.
I’m going to stick up for the gym…
I’m going to stick up for the gym kitchen here. I have been eating the chilled meals since the beginning of the year most lunches. Previously it was a sandwich, crisp and maybe a snack. The meals fill me up and I find them tasty. And I have lost a stone! Yes, the chicken can sometimes be a bit rubbery, but you are microwaving so that is to be expected. But I am so happy that they offer a lunch option that isn’t full of rubbish - preservatives, additives, processed muck. It’s all natural and all good for you.
Taste is obviously subjective but I like them. I think some people may struggle at first with taste as there isn’t an additives, sugar etc the taste can seem more bland to processed muck. But when you get into a more healthy diet you then don’t notice or miss those tastes, your palette refines.
Keep up the good work!
I brought 5 meals as I need to eat high…
I brought 5 meals as I need to eat high protein due to cancer, but they are absolutely disgusting the chicken is like chewing an old boot they have no taste at all, I will never but them again just a waste of money
I have been buying these meals for when…
I have been buying these meals for when I don't have time to prep because they are macro carried unlike other people's reviews I think they are full of flavour. The chicken is very chewy and I struggled to see how there is the protein amount that it says on the packet with about six chunks of chicken. My chicken fillets Consist of 25 - 30 grams alone. I know there will be a few grams of protein in other bits in the meals that I still think it's lacking in meat content for the protein to be so high
For that reason I'm not not going to buy these anymore
Rubbery, Tasteless, and Misleading
I have never gone out of my way to write a review for any product before, but this one genuinely deserves some honest criticism so others know what to expect. The taste was almost non-existent, and the texture was rubbery and unpleasant. Easily the worst packaged pancakes I’ve tried. The "High Protein" label also feels misleading, since the protein content is barely higher than regular pancakes.
Chicken tikka . DONT
Bought a chicken tikka meal to try and it was tasteless, bland and quite boring .
First and last purchase for me .

Had the chicken takeaway meal ,the chicken was ok but the rest of it was very bland and tasteless.
Fine by me
Just tried the tikka and it tastes fine, much better than your average microwave meal and way healthier. I only use ready meals if I'm rushed and dont have time for healthy food prep but I will be getting more of these.
Not good at all
Had a few things of theres and I'm yet to find somthing that is nice - all seems really low quality. I won't be trying any more to find one that's worthy of an additional star.
Additionally a co-worker of mine had one of the wraps. You know it's bad when you hear quiet moans from the corner of the canteen, they just about kept it down.
Tasty and Healthy
I don't really understand the negative reviews, i have just recently tried some of the gym kitchen range and found them to be really tasty and full of flavour, my only suggestion would be to use wholemeal pasta in the pasta dishes.
Absolutely awful
I gave it one star, because I am being generous. The paella was a disaster. They just piled on the salsa, hoping for the best, but it tasted awful. The spaghetti carbonara wasn't much better; it was completely flavorless. At least the broccoli gave the dish some redeeming taste.
Tasteless slop
Pulled pork Mac n cheese, I’ve eaten some pure muck in my time, but this is a new low for me, seriously it’s just a tray of tasteless slop, a lot of the meals are pretty good, but this is an insult to food
Salt and pepper chicken
Salt and pepper chicken, no taste whatsoever. Lidl high protein salt and pepper stunning compared to what I just ate
