Can’t rate this website enough and thank you for doing such important work that society has failed to do for women and contraception. After having been gaslit by GPs for years about my endo and reaction to certain pills and my mental health, this website has done more for my education and empowerment to make my own contraceptive choices than any doctor

After seeing The Lowdown on the Davina McCall Contraceptive programme, I decided to give them a call. I had a lovely discussion with Dr Fran Yarlett who really put my fears to rest. After talking things through, we came up with a plan and I feel so much better knowing that I have spoken to a GP who knows what I am going through and felt reassured that I wasn’t alone.

I would highly recommend The Lowdown to anyone who is suffering with Endometriosis & Heavy Periods - you will feel like you are being listened to and not being ignored. Absolutely wonderful service and the Doctors are lovely to speak to and understand ‘ladies problems’.

I had a consultation with Dr. Melanie Davis-Hall on Zoom and it was so helpful. I was able to explain my reasons for getting in touch without feeling rushed and Dr. Melanie asked me some relevant medical history questions to build up a clearer picture. The advice she gave me was clear and her notes summarised our session so I can refer back to them to make a decision. Dr. Melanie was lovely - she listened, she was calm and very professional. Thank you so much - I will definitely recommend The Lowdown to friends and family!

Wonderful customer service - Dani is amazing, and even though they had supply issues and I had drama with changing addresses, they made sure my medication was delivered to me!

This is what sexual health care should look like. Dr Fran was clear, kind, straightforward, and really listened to my 17-year-old daughter's wishes and concerns. She gave her all the information and all the time she needed to make an informed choice. I am so happy for my daughter that she has had access to such excellent, well-informed and kind care and advice.

I had a consultation with Dr Melanie not only was just the loveliest person but had incredible knowledge about everything contraception related. We discussed in depth all my worries, concerns and questions. Dr Melanie made me feel so at ease and like no question about as too silly and it was so lovely seeing a gp who you felt had time to talk, genuinely wanted to help and knew everything there was to know about the subject to give you the opportunity fact information you needed.
Best money I’ve ever spent I know feel confident going forward with my decisions and I know that if I need help again in the future it is so easy and quick to get an appointment through this service.

Dr Mel was amazing - she gave me so much information to work with, as well as detailed notes after the appointment with links to relevant reading. She's super lovely and very smart. Really recommend putting the time and money into learning more about your health if you can - it's so worth it.

Booked an appointment to discuss issues since coming off hormonal contraception. My doctor was so supportive, really listened to all my concerns (went 10 minutes over the appointment time too!) and validated my experiences. They gave very helpful, reassuring and professional advice with a plan going forward and informed me of the specific tests I should request from my NHS GP in a future appointment.

During a recent and horrendous endometriosis flare up The Lowdown has provided me with knowledge, tools and rapid access treatments beyond the scope of what my GP could give me. I feel informed about the pill I am selecting and I am able to switch pills easily. The reviews from other women help guide me in my final selection too. I feel like I’ve finally got control and my life back!

Ordered over the bank holiday as I completely forgot to book in my injection- ordered on 28th May and came on 31st! Very impressed as very quick approval of prescription and quick delivery. Would 100% use again

I love the Lowdown. I get my contraception through them and, although you have to pay for it, it means I know what I'm getting on time and I'm in control of my pills. She listened to all my concerns and then gave me really useful and empowering information that I now feel well informed to make the right decision for me. Thelowdown is a fantastic service for women who want to speak to experts on contraceptives. I had an appointment with my doctor as I wanted advice on taking the combined pill over 50 years old. They couldn't provide me with the information that I needed, so I made an appointment with Dr Mel Davis-Hall at thelowdown. Mel was able to provide me with all the information that I was looking for, and was able to answer all my questions. The appointment was for half an hour too, which meant I didn't feel rushed. Highly recommended!

I honestly had an amazing experience with my consultation with Fran. I’ve tried numerous pill types and have had consultations within NHS appointments as well as Superdrug/ Boots doctors as well as a lot of personal research. I’ve really struggled with a variety of side effects and wasn’t sure what to try next next. Fran was lovely and walked through every side effect I’d had with previous ones and even spoke through why some of them happened then suggested next steps to try. I’ve been on the first choice suggested for almost a month and although I’ve had a few minor side effects I’ve never had something so easy that I felt so confident in. A massive thank you to Fran for not only sharing your huge expertise but also really recognising my previous experiences and concerns. For the first time ever I actually feel confident with my contraception choice and know what to do next if this doesn’t work out. Definitely give them a go if you’re feeling lost!

I had a Zoom consultation with Dr Becky Mawson and she was so wonderful. Really easy to talk to and fully understood that negative symptoms from birth control really do affect your lifestyle. Trying to talk to an NHS doctor about the same thing can make you feel like you're hitting your head against a brick wall sometimes - they brush your concerns away so often. Dr Mawson really listened! And we talked extensively about what could be causing this/that. She gave some brilliant advice, didn't push me into doing anything but rather let me go off and do my own research to be sure what she had recommended was something I wanted to do. I've now ordered the pill she recommended through The Lowdown's website and am hoping it'll help with my issues. If it doesn't, then I feel comforted to know that The Lowdown has a team of doctors to support me if and when I need them. Contraception is a really tricky thing to get right - sure, they all protect you from getting pregnant, but the hormonal balance can be so difficult, particularly as our bodies change as we get older.
