gary and his team turned up on time spot on with no bother. they were dead friendly and polite to both me and our lass. they turned my horrible looking tarmac drive into something we both love looking at every morning. the finish was outstanding. now its been sealed up it looks even better. Mint job lads thanks again.

Is all I can, What an amazing experience and transformation they have done we are absolutely obsessed with our new garden we can’t fault them at all.
Dropped them a messaged for a price and advice on what we want within a week I would say they started the work and was finished in a few days. A few weeks later back to seal and all I can say is wow!!

The surface looked decent at first, but after the first rainfall, it became obvious how bad the job was. Water pools everywhere, and parts of the paving have already started to shift. Clearly no proper planning or drainage was done.

Visiting my mother in laws to see for myself the absolutely horrendous workmanship they did on her paths. Apparently after complaining about it and asking for it to be redone, the owner Mr Crowthers has refused to answer messages and blocked on Company Website and Facebook.
After doing some checks I have found he’s had several companies go bust. One owing £170+ thousand. Several CCJs.Two are currently unpaid. He asks for cash to be paid into other people’s accounts to avoid tax. He’s been taken to court several times with a case pending at present.He removes all bad reviews from his accounts.
I wish I could upload photos showing his company’s terrible workmanship.
Once a judge branded him A Bully, weak and Pathetic individual.(Gazette) for assault.
Having met Mr Crowthers I can understand why. His public persona is not the real one.
The company has a couple of false reviews done by his son and his employee.
I wouldn’t wish anyone else to experience what my mother in law has. Beware.
It maybe some jobs the company does are ok but be prepared for it not to be !

The Paving People were paid to replace my patio in March 2025. Despite them being paid in full, which I felt pressured into doing before the job was finished (on their website they state that no money would be requested until the job is completed), the job has still not been completed. They made such a bad job of the patio and damaged my balustrade, smashing some of the glass and cutting most of the steel frame to try unsuccessfully to make it fit. I am in the process of getting this fixed which is costing me almost £2000 by another company on top of the money that I paid the paio people to replace my patio. Gary Crowther, the owner, stopped taking my calls a long time ago. AVOID THIS COMPANY LIKE THE PLAGUE. There are a lot of bad jobs that I have heard about connected to this company since last year. Save yourself the heart ache and money and find a reputable company to do your job.

This company are carrying out work for my next door neighbour and it has been a nightmare. They have blocked me in with their vehicles and piles of rubble - they but all their rubbish - take away containers, coffee cups, cigarette butts in my recycling bin, used my car to lean their tools against. My drive has as much product as my neighbours - as does my garage door and car - as they are not tidy when they work. They repeatedly told me they would clean it all up, but they didn't. My neighbour actually washed my car for me. They have turned up today - not seem them since the end of last week - we are now 10 days in - and they have knocked on the door to tell me what ever they are doing today is going to make my car dirty - seeing I looked unhappy, they told me not to worry they would wash it - I pointed out they had said that before, about my drive too but they hadn't done it, told them my neighbour had actually washed my car after they left it in a state last week - he told me to watch my attitude! They are unprofessional, messy and have taken forever to complete the work. Not going to add the comments my neighbour made about them as they can leave their own review. Just be warned, if you employ them you will need to work on your relationship with your neighbours after they eventually finish

This may be a long read but is designed to help people make the right decisions based on facts. Do not go by reviews as I did. Do some background checks via Companies House. I wish I had known about this before I gave them the go ahead for imprinted concrete and drainage. Do not pay anything until you are 100% satisfied. And DO NOT PAY CASH.
Had them in July 2025 then spent months trying to get the awful job rectified. I ended up with chipped steps, missing bits / cracked concrete and Aco drains that were ill fitting and cracked. They also damaged brickwork on the garage. The owner Gary Crowthers finally came to look at the job in mid Nov only after I threatened him with legal action. He said he would get back to me with a date for rectifying the problems. I am still waiting !
As a result I had to get another company in to replace the whole job. So I’ve paid twice. I am now in the process of taking him to court. I am aware of 3 others that have also taken him to court previously.
He deletes all negative comments off his websites, and then blocks people from them.
The Paving People were about to be struck off as a business in January. So he set up the company again in November adding the word Specialists in his girlfriends name.
Check for yourselves on Companies House. Put in Mr Crowthers name and then also the Company name. (he’s had 4 or 5 companies since 2017 go the same way. ) That’s one way of getting around paying creditors. As well as customers not being able to Sue him for dodgy work.
At the moment the original company can’t be struck off yet whilst a court case against the company is ongoing. Most public go by reviews and don’t know what is going on in the background.

From start to finish Gary and the team at The Paving People have been amazing. This was a special project called ‘Project Ruby’. The project involved many others but Gary and the team stood out among everyone. They worked hard, were professional, polite and provided everything required for an excellent job. Thanks everyone and once Ruby is well enough and the weather improves she will be out there enjoying the wonderful Patio. I’m recommending these guys to everyone.

Just had an old tarmac path replaced with setts and imprinted concrete. Was completed in 3 days. Charlie and his team were very good, very polite and pleasant, worked hard and we're very happy with the result. Cleaned everywhere afterwards. Would recommend to anyone and we'd definitely use them again.

Complete new drive in two days.
Arrived 8am and lifted the old concrete drive and did all prep work for block paving on day one,good set of lads,Charlie couldn’t have been more helpful.
We’d changed our mind about about colour and pattern etc but no problem to them just cracked on with the job.

The Paving People’s vans, website and documentation, plus James in Sales, are professional and exemplary and make their look like a large, trusted and professional… having seen the vans on more than one occasion, I checked out their website and was instantly keen to book a survey and quote.

Unfortunately, whilst pre-sales communication was exemplary, the team doing the graft and hard work, fell far short with communication throughout, leaving the customer to constantly chase, get let down when agreed dates weren’t always met (granted not always the lads’ fault) was hard work, slow and unnecessarily stressful and damage to the adjoining driveway fence, underground fibre broadband cable and garage flooring were avoidable, unacceptable and costly to put right... but... we asked them to get rid of a dreadful garden and driveway and they did so extremely quickly and really rather well.

They poured and imprinted the concrete and whilst there are flaws and blemishes to be seen, overall we are very pleased and impressed and received great comments from neighbours and family.

The sealant finally went down today, two weeks later than originally advised and has finished it off nicely, but along the fence, there are gaps they missed and the expansion slots silicon is not fully filling the slots, so time will tell how weedy they get and when that'll need redoing, plus, some nice size 10 workman boot footprints near the garage will leave us thinking of them for years to come!

But, the end product, whilst not perfect, is very good overall and their price was competitive and fair and once tackled along the way, they were, to be fair, on the case and fulfilling their end of the bargain… the only thing that lets this firm down is it appears to be run on a day to day basis and work overseen and carried out by Charlie… a fine and decent 19-year old local lad, with a lot to learn about customer service, communication and attention to detail, but… you can’t fault him or his lads for being canny, listen when approached, seem willing to learn, are hard workers, honest, trustworthy and do a good job overall.

Overall, combining price, quality of preparation, pillar builds, driveway finish, and customer service, we would say they offered a very good price, present as a professional firm, lack polished customer service, but provide a very good driveway at the end.

We hope this review leaves The Paving People with food for thought on how they can make The Paving People go from a good looking company, to an excellent and customer centred company, but justly proud their customers are generally happy with the driveway they paid for.

Good luck Charlie... you're still young, keen and talented... I'm sure you'll listen, learn and do very well in the future and to anyone reading this, book these lads and you’ll get a good job done for a good price paid.

Gary and the team have done a brilliant job on our driveway. The finish is superb! Gary has been really helpful throughout the whole process helping us the the design. We are really happy and would highly recommend.

I’ve already left a review on Facebook, but feel that’s a narrow window for anybody wanting to really see what occurred with this company.
We arranged with their assessor James who called round and measured our rear garden and recommended we laid block paving. Both my wife and I are pensioners and as the garden was a trip hazard we were concerned of having a serious fall. James gave us a great price and we all signed an agreement and work to be paid for once job completed.
We have a narrow side gate where a wheelie bin just goes through, which is the only access to back garden.
So on late afternoon of 7/7/25, my wife received a call from Charlie, who advised he’d call the next day and start work. Arrival on Tuesday morning brought foreman Charlie and 3 others as well as mini bulldozer. I asked what’s that doing here, it won’t go through our gate. We all convened in back garden to see what was to be done. I turned to observe 1 of his team measuring the side gate.
My wife and I moved out to the front, where Charlie came out and announced he wasn’t prepared to do the job as his “boys toy” wouldn’t fit, and walked off the job. I was always of the opinion ground workers would tackle any scenario no matter what, but Charlie threw his toys out of the pram and we as clients were unimpressed and felt let down.
Neither my wife nor I suffer fools gladly, and wife was seething, so she phoned James and vented her fury. This then led to return call from the boss Gary, who added fuel to the fire by saying the modern age machinery is a necessary tool replacing manual labour. However the modern age also allows access to Facebook, Google, Checkatrade, Trading Standards and Trustpilot. Gary then informed my wife he would get another team to start next day.
Half an hour later the doorbell rang and here was another foreman called James. He viewed back garden and had job details on his phone. Give me half an hour and I will return with my team. Enter James, Aiden and Jack, who armed with pick axes and wheelbarrows dismantled our back garden in 4 hours. The following morning a delivery of hardcore block paving and sand, this team transformed our back garden.
We had been let down by another company to do our front garden, delays and no date to when, so foreman James offered to do the front too, for the same price. So on 10/7, James hired a digger and upended our front after finishing the rear, and on 11/7 the “3 musketeers” as I christened them finished off the front too.
The weather was hot all week and we set up a table, and organised copious glasses of juice and iced water, and treat of ice lollies.
We cannot fault the work ethic, professionalism and attitude of these 3 guys. James kept us informed at all times, answered our questions and listened to our input.
They are a credit to their profession, its a shame Charlie can’t match these guys commitment to their trade.

Do not pay in full until you are totally happy with completed work! Wish I'd listened to my own advice.

I did initially leave a positive review for The Paving People, after I was left feeling guilty from Gaz the lads wouldn't receive their bonus from the boss. I later found out Gaz is the boss .

I'll start with the positives -
No sales pressure from James, gave me a reasonable price. Said payment would be required once the concrete poured - in cash. The lads did work really hard taking up my old drive and garden on a bitterly cold day.

Now the bad bits -
Due to the cold weather, Gaz called to ask if they could come the week before they were booked in, which was fine. On arrival he wanted payment that day in cash. Very inconvenient, as I was working and had to make arrangements to go to the bank. Also received no invoice or receipt.
The team turned up on the most windiest day in January to lay the concrete and colour. They should have really postponed as the colour dust covered most of the street! I'd picked the darkest grey/slate on the colour chart James showed me to match the tiles on our porch. I even showed Gaz a photo from their own website of the patteren and colour I wanted however the colour laid was a light grey. Three times I went out and spoke to the lads saying it was the wrong colour. Gaz eventually came out the van to tell me to trust in the process. So foolishly I did, thinking it would wash off to reveal the true picked colour.

After the colour was washed off, i realised it was nowhere near the colour i picked. The clean up lads said they would put our gates back on they removed but didnt and left. I spoke to Gaz directly that evening about the gates and told him the colour was completely wrong. He managed to fob me off about the colour saying it would darken down during sealing. I trusted him thinking he was the expert!

The team removed our garden 6ft double gates when lifting the old concrete and didn't put them back on. I contacted Gaz 4 times to ask for them to be reattached, despite the clean up lads saying they would do it. They turned up at 4.45pm clearly uninterested in doing a proper job in the dark and bodged it totally. Instead on raising the gates as they had laid the concrete too high they cut the gates totally wonky. When this didn't work they moved the hinges so the screws were poking out the wood and weren't secure. The lock was smashed and the whole gates were covered in concrete footprints where they had walked all over them. They finally finished them by putting a planter in front of them as they wouldn't shut properly and said someone would come back to finish it. When I asked when, they said they didn't know, just when they had time. I complained to Gaz directly and told him to come sort them or get them replaced by a reputable company. He ignored my messages but did turn up the next day and they were hung correctly by being raised.

After the clear up on a dry day, I realised our neighbours drive and the tarmac and road ourtside our house was covered in cement colour. It wouldn't come off with brushing or jet washing so I asked Gaz what to use. He did send someone out to put some acid on it but they proceeded to cover our new 'wrong' colour with acid splashes. I could have done better myself! I called Gaz to tell him of the splash damage and also of loads of cracked and chipped areas and again I was fobbed off by him saying it was all be sorted when it was sealed.

Sealing and getting the chips sorted was another trauma, it took numerous texts, watsapps and phone calls to get this booked in. The day they were supposed to come no-one showed up. I phoned Gaz and he wasn't pleasant on the call. However he did send a lad over. I asked the lad to sort the chips and cracks. This lad had completed the initial clean up and told me then they mix a paste with the colour and sealant to sort the cracks and it would be just like new. However you could tell he was clearly uninterested in doing this as didn't sort the chips at all and told me it doesn't look good if they fill them in. Totally back tracking from his previous comments. I also overheard him on a call to someone saying the chips needed sorting as they were quite bad. I'm assuming he was told not to do anything with them as they are still fully on show after sealing. The sealing has been done totally haphazard, and not covering the drive completely in parts. He also sealed over dirty marks on the drive so I can admire them forever more I'm assuming. The sealing process is nothing like the video Gaz promotes on Facebook.

So finally - The sealing didn't darken the colour down to my requested dark grey/slate. Their fb page says mine is charcoal. The drive still has cracks and chips. Fingerprints and footprints in the concrete. Parts not fully printed either. And edging not as I asked.
I would use someone else unless your not bothered on the finish and aftercare.

I certainly wouldn’t recommend this company.From day one of starting the job I knew I had made a mistake.Im a wheelchair user and wanted a new path with an incline to get onto the pavement outside.I have more trouble now getting onto the pavement than I had previously.They caused damage to a new gate which they fixed after I had pressured them.The path goes up in two places it’s not flat,why I don’t know.The man in charge is an arrogant man to deal with not nice at all.He wanted cash in hand which I stupidly payed him.If I would of realised I would of held the payment back till he righted the job.I really wish I would of used some other company.Paid over £3,000 and not happy at all.Don't pay him till your happy with the job.Seriously I wouldn’t recommend these people at all. My pathway was only small and it’s a third rate job they did on it,even the neighbours complained about the mess they left outside on the road.I honestly can’t believe the 5* reviews on here !!!He must of sent trainees to do my path??.

Five times I’ve messaged these people. Five times they never had the courtesy to answer my emails or return my calls.
I wouldn’t call them professional.

What a great company to deal with. Absolutely faultless from the first message I sent enquiring about a new driveway to the job getting done. First of all, James was great, he came out to price the job the following day and popped back over when I booked in the work to go over the finer details.

When it came to carrying out the work, Gaz and his team were excellent. Arrived early both days and literally didn't stop. The work ethic of this company is second to none, going above and beyond for the customer. The whole process was fully explained and carried out to an exceptional standard.

If you are looking for a trustworthy company to transform your driveway, I can highly recommend The Paving People. The compliments we have had from our Neighbours and passers by have been brilliant. 100% recommend!!

Great company with an awesome team! Really happy with all work so far. Team work extremely hard and are very customer focused, particularly Charlie.

It only took a couple of days to dig up the old block driveway and plants and take them away and pour the concrete! We also had a new set of steps and the new design is brilliant.

We have had a lot of compliments! If you are looking for someone to sort out the driveway or patio, these guys are brilliant! Highly recommended!

A fantastic triple drive completed by Wes and Henry. Polite hard workers who turned up on time and when expected. Really pleased with the excellent job they did and have already recommended the company to friends and family.
