If you’re optimising images for Shopify etc, this is the gold standard
We’ve been using TinyPNG (Ultra plan) to optimise a very large number of images—around 50,000—and honestly, it’s been a really good experience.
First thing to say, the support has been excellent, especially Anna M. Replies come back quickly (usually within a few hours, always within 24), and everything is explained in a way that actually makes sense. That’s rare in this space.
In terms of performance, we’re seeing roughly 90–97% reduction in file size, with very little loss in quality. This was a big concern for us because we work with detailed textile designs, and the originals can be quite heavy (5MB to 20MB+). But on screen and on mobile, everything looks great.
We’re running batches of about 200–300 images at a time, and it’s been smooth. Depending on the file sizes, it usually takes between 30-40 mins max. The system itself is simple to use, no complications.
One thing we really like is that all files come back organised properly—same file names, same folder structure, just in a new optimised folder. That makes life much easier when you’re dealing with this volume.
There is a very small point worth mentioning: with some watercolour-style designs, you might notice a tiny bit of softness. But from a professional point of view, it’s minimal and absolutely acceptable.
Important note if you’re using Shopify
We had a big issue before this with Shopify and another optimisation app (Avada).
After about a month of back and forth, we found out something that no one clearly tells you:
Optimising images after uploading to Shopify doesn’t actually reduce your storage.
Because of changes Shopify made in 2024, the original files are still kept. So if you’re not careful, you can end up going over your storage without realising.
The correct way is:
Optimise your images first, then upload them.
Final thoughts
We’re still in the middle of the process, but so far we’re very happy and I will update this review in a month. We had an awful time with AVADA and Shopify who could not work out why the images being optimised through shopify were not optimised, one month it took before they came back and said that you need to delete 70,000 images and basically start again, so be careful!!!
Great service, easy system, and the results speak for themselves.
Would definitely recommend.
