Disappointing quality of alterations and poor customer service.
I had a very disappointing experience with Top Stitch regarding an alteration of oversized trousers into shorts. I have been a loyal customer here for several years and have previously brought in jeans and other heavy/dense fabrics for alterations, and everything was always handled perfectly. Unfortunately, this time was completely different. In my opinion, the structural work on the trousers was completely botched. Instead of tailoring the waist properly using professional darts/seams as I expected and requested, the tailor simply inserted an elastic band into the waistband and cut the length. The resulting fit was completely unwearable for my husband. When I raised my concerns during the fitting, the tailor became very defensive, argued with me, and blamed me for buying an item that was "too oversized"—despite happily accepting the job and taking the money for it initially. Even after that confrontation, they were given a second opportunity to correct the mistakes. However, when I returned to collect the items, the second attempt had improved absolutely nothing, and the quality remained unacceptable.
When collecting the items, the management refused to acknowledge the poor quality of the tailoring. I paid £15.00 for the basic shortening that was actually done, and the business agreed to waive the rest of the balance to close the matter.
The main reason I am leaving this review is the sheer inconvenience this has caused. Now I am forced to waste my valuable time searching for another professional tailor who can actually fix their mistakes and reconstruct the waistband properly. While the financial dispute is resolved, I am deeply unsatisfied with the drop in craftsmanship, the lack of professional ethics, and the way I was treated as a customer. I will not be returning.
