Prices are competitive and there is it is a very fast delivery service. I use benevo tinned food and it’s amazing. They virtually inhale it. My niece has a fussy dog and she gives it a tin of Benevo as a treat because she will always eat it (leaves most food).

Nothing was wrong, my cat ate hers but my dogs didn't even look at the biscuits, they dont eat dog biscuits as it is so wasn't really surprised they didn't eat these ones, sorry

Hiked delivery costs, smaller bags, same price!
I used this company for a long time, then suddenly, they changed from a 15KG bag to a 10KG bag for virtually the same price. They also adjusted the weight allowance on their delivery so that two bags just took you over the limit by 2KG meaning you paid a much higher delivery fee. Having two very large dogs, this made a huge difference to our costs buying from them.
Shame really as I spent a fortune with them over the time, however, i now source all the products through other companies who offer cheaper or free delivery, and I recently saw their bag price has now come down dramatically, probably due to a lack of sales. Why oh why do these companies try and pull a fast one on loyal customers then wonder why they go elsewhere?

However, we're disappointed to read this review as it contains a number of factual inaccuracies, and as a small independent business we feel it's important to provide some additional context and clarification.
With regards to the change from Benevo Original 15kg bags to 10kg bags and the associated price changes, these were not decisions made by VeggiePets. Benevo is a completely separate company and the manufacturer of the food. They chose to discontinue the 15kg size and replace it with a 10kg variant, meaning the 15kg bag is no longer available for us, or any other retailer, to purchase.
At the same time, Benevo increased the prices they charge to stockists. As with any retail business, when our own costs increase, we unfortunately have little choice but to adjust our prices accordingly. We work extremely hard to keep prices as competitive as possible and, in many cases, sell products at the same price as or less than other retailers. As an example, Benevo Original 10kg is currently available from us for £44.99, compared with £49.99 when purchased directly from Benevo themselves. To add to this, the product has been sold on our website at £44.99 since it was first launched, and we have not increased or decreased the selling price since introducing the 10kg version.
The changes you refer to regarding delivery charges were implemented more than two years ago and were the result of courier weight restrictions rather than an attempt to increase revenue. DPD impose a strict 30kg maximum parcel weight. Whilst two 15kg bags may appear to fall within this limit, the actual weight of pet food is often above the stated weight, and once packaging materials and the outer box are also included, consignments parcels containing two bags of 15KG food exceeded the courier's permitted weight allowance.
At the time of making this decision, overweight parcels attracted surcharge fees of around £22 per parcel. Absorbing costs of that level on a regular basis simply was not sustainable for a small independent business. For that reason, we had to reduce the maximum weight permitted within a single parcel and require larger orders to be split across multiple parcels.
Importantly, we did not pass the full additional courier cost on to customers. Where an extra parcel was required, customers were charged only a small additional amount of £2 extra and VeggiePets absorbed the majority of the cost ourselves. In fact, we continue to subsidise delivery charges across our website, as the amount we pay couriers is often higher than the amount charged to customers.
We also appreciate that delivery pricing can sometimes be misunderstood. Many retailers advertise "free shipping", but in reality the cost of delivery is simply built into the product price. This means customers often end up paying more for the products themselves in order to cover the cost of postage. We have deliberately chosen a different approach. Rather than inflating product prices to disguise shipping costs, we aim to keep our product prices as low as possible and then offer customers a range of delivery options to choose from, with services starting from just £3.95.
For over 20 years, our aim has been to make ethical pet food as accessible and affordable as possible in order to reduce harms to animals within the pet food industry, which is our core mission. Whilst we completely understand that manufacturer price increases, product changes and courier restrictions can be frustrating, the issues raised in this review were largely the result of decisions and requirements outside of our control rather than choices made by VeggiePets.
We always operate with 100% transparency and are happy to discuss any concerns regarding product, pricing and delivery changes with any of our customers.
