85 y.o. father-in-law uses internet to pay car tax. Is sure he was on DVLA site. Thinks he's paid.
50p taken from bank followed by £7.85 every month. He doesn't spot this. Probably why the amount taken is low.
DVLA contact him about non-payment and fine him £70.
10+ months later (Nov '25) this is found when checking bank transactions. Immediately spoke to bank and raised a fraud case (thank you Lloyds). Next stop DVLA to see if they will refund the fine (doubtful about that).
No emails or records of ever agreeing to any so-called service. This is just 100% scam. Internet search engines are a big part of this issue allowing fake sites to jump to the top of searches.

I cancelled this scammed account some time ago, only to find another £7.85 has been taken out of my account by you on 21st February '25. I need an email address to contact you to re cancel.

This company doesn't even deserve a one star rating. They are scammers and take money under false pretences. They have been taking £7.75 per month from my account for over a year now and in spite of my attempts to cancel I have not been successful. I am a pensioner in my 80s and also disabled and cannot afford lose this amount over a long period of time. I genuinely thought I was on a government website, but I have found to my cost that I am not the only one to have been deceived.

I logged onto the government web site using the e-mail address that was on my Vehicle Tax reminder. I inputted all the details including my card details to pay my £190 car tax. Had I not checked my bank account a few days later I would be oblivious to this scam. They took 50p out on the 30th January and £7.85 the next day.
It would appear this company intercepted my application and they were so clever because every page in the process had GOV.UK on the head of the page. At no point in the process was there any mention of a subscription or monthly payments. A genuine company would always back up an agreement with an e-mail but this company didn't in the hope it is never noticed. God forbid if somebody who fell for this and didn't realise then went on to have a crash. Their insurance would be void because their car wasn't taxed.

DVLA should do something to sort these SCAMMERS out and block how they intercept the genuine site. I intend to go to the media to highlight how this unscrupulous company is SCAMMING innocent hard working people and in my case pensioners.

This is scam website! or to put it correctly as our bank advised a 'misleading website'. where you are redirected through them to pay your cay tax and then are automatically enrolled is a monthly subscription for what as far as we can see is - NOTHING.

I thought I'd paid my car tax the day I got the reminder, so was surprised to receive a 'Last chance Reminder' a month later, 15 days after it ran out. I'd noted the payment in my diary and written the date of payment on the reminder. As far as I was concerned it was all settled, so I was horrified to go into my bank account to find the £160 had not gone out as I thought. Instead I noticed this unexplained £7.85 payment to Vehicle Inquiry Ltd, which I'd had no notification about at all, not even an emailed confirmation of membership. At least I've been able to cancel the direct debit (I hope) but I could have been fined £80 or had my car impounded. Ironically one of the 'services' this company purports to provide is giving tax reminders! I am amazed that DVLA continue to allow this company to piggy back their website to divert (and, let's call it what it is, scam) people who are trying to pay their tax on time, turning them into law breakers.

Appalling; I am debited £7.85 a m onth for no service whatever. Please stop.

My mum has just fallen foul of this - spent an hour on the phone to the bank to get it rectified and thankfully have. But she fell into their trap doing her car tax online - how is this not being stopped??????

scammers. you think you are on DVLA site but instead signing up to them and not taxing your car. So a double whammy as you could get fined for car tax evasion. 1) call you bank or card company and get a stop on further deductions from your account. 2) call them and request a refund 0333 015 3328 (remember to get a refund reference number , and note down the time & date of the call, who you spoke to)

I got scammed as well. Unknowingly sucked into their site when I thought I was paying my annual car tax to DVLA. Not only have I been paying 7.85 pounds a month for past 6 months but I also got fined 80 pounds for not having may car taxed - I was sure I'd taxed it but obviously not - the second reminder from DVLA included the fine.
My credit card company has just stopped the monthly payment and is trying to recover everything this scam company has taken from my account.

As per others, trying to tax the car and got sucked into some sort of subscription. I am usually very careful and don’t know how I fell for it but there you go. Tried cancelling on the site, emails and calls with no joy. On to the bank tomorrow tho!

I have often paid for my car tax on-line with DVLA but this time something went wrong and I was diverted to vehicleinquiry.uk. The end result was I did not get my car tax renewed and I was charged 50p from my bank for a trial ? then £7.50 for a membership fee (that I have no use for). I managed to cancel any membership but just search Trustpilot reviews of vehicleinquiry.uk to see what the problem is.

Conned out of £7.85 a month from this lot. Anyone have a contact number?
Enough is enough with these parasites.

I was scammed by this company thought I was paying my tax online, they took all my bank details and set up a direct debit taking monthly payments from my account. Luckily I did discovered the fraud and contacted my bank. I have also contacted Matt Alright and asked him to publicize this scam.

Fraud I thought I was paying to check my car tax but these people keep taking £7.89 a month out of my account. The bank can issue a dispute but cannot stop the payments. I cannot get hold of anyone at this company to cancel. What do I do?

I thought I was paying my car tax online to a government site only to find that the website I was using was a scam site. I was charged 50p to verify my credit card then £7.85 on two separate occasions until I realised what had happened. Its clearly a scam company/site deliberately set up to fool and con people.I am now going through a load of hassle trying to get my get my money back. Why arent these scammers shut down by banks , police etc.?Hundreds of people appear to be losing money and scammed by them.
After a dispute process was opened by my credit card provider these scammers immediately agreed to refund the money I had paid them. They emailed me to say they had unsubscribed me from their 'membership reminder service' . What a joke - would anyone in their right mind pay £8 a month to be told when their car tax ran out !!! In my case this would have involved paying them £96 over the year to get a reminder to pay my car tax of £200.
In their email to me they say they run reminder services for MOTs , Insurance, Breakdown service reminders , warranty reminders. They claim to save their customers £££s !!! They are clearly fleecing thousands of people. They need to be investigated and shut down - low life tricksters and conmen are the only words I can find to describe them.

They pretended to be the right place for paying my car tax, and took 50p and then a small payment of £7.85, as if they were taking a monthly payment. I asked my bank to stop any demand for payment from this company. My bank disputed this. I got the money back - but they may try to debit my account again. I may have to close my account - they may sell my account details to someone else. Really dangerous.
